[W:711] 2/3rds of Americans want an assault weapons ban

My sister and brother-in-law both voted for Trump. Now both want assault weapons banned. Bottom line - Republicans are going to lose in the 2020 if they don't stop bowing down to the NRA, and start paying attention to their voters.

you can tell them that assault weapons are already banned. they have been banned since 1986

what should be done to the thousands of people-who have never harmed anyone with a firearm, who refuse to surrender them to comply with spiteful laws passed by abject assholes?

What generally happens to those who refuse to adhere to the laws of the land ? Weren't you once involved in jurice prudence, and how it works ?

Dude, Really?

Yeah, I spent a fair amount of time on cases involving people with records who were caught packing.

Most people get wiser as they get older. Of course that isn't always true. They apparently don't understand firearms anymore than you do.

served in the military...

You should have said that rather than have said "served time"

You took an oath to defend the constitution didn't you? I sure did

They'll surrender their civil rights that easily?

Not what they meant. If you expect honest discussions, yes they are rare, one must set the example and not take a low road, as painful as it may be. Just sayin.

a former mod, no longer here-stated he had a record and could not own firearms. When someone says they have served time, that is what I assume they meant.

Tell them to check out the number of people killed by long guns each year then compare it to the number of people stabbed to death. Then tell them to look at the statistics on how many deaths were prevented by banning 'assault' ' style guns under Clinton. Criminals don't mind breaking the law.

More people die by stabbing than by all long guns. The Clinton assault gun ban did not statistically effect the death by gun rate so it was dropped. A ban on "assault " style gun will effect law abiding citizens and the criminals will still obtain them.

There is an old saying about assumptions...

They bow down to the NRA because they ARE listening to their voters. The NRA represents millions of voters which is how they get their power. Republicans know if they aren't about protecting the 2A then the NRA will use their influence to primary them at the first available chance. It is no different than how the teacher's unions or planned parenthood have a firm grasp on the Democratic party, just look at how quiet Booker is on school choice now that he is running for President. He knows that if he were to make an enemy of the teacher's union he is toast.

Well, it looks nice and light but also looks awkward as hell to carry. Tell me why it's better than my lever-action 30-30. For one thing, I bet I could buy six of my Marlins for the price of that sexy-looking fashion statement.
The 30-30 is a great hunting rifle but would make a lousy weapon to clear a house with or for home defense.

You would be surprised. The Zastava M92 in its stock format runs just over $400, so stock, its pretty close to the price of a new Marlin 30-30. On that weapon shown, the blade and adapter are about 80, the enhanced grip (looks like a Hogue) is about 40, and it would be another $40-50 to replace the original wood front stock with a rail system. I may be wrong but the red dot looks a lot like a Bushnell which would run about 50. Total after mods would be a round $610. I'd bet I could buy a used version fully outfitted for less than 5.

Why don't you tell us what generally happens to those who refuse to adhere to the laws of the land ? ( 2nd request ) Didn't you once take an oath to enforce laws ?

I took an oath to the constitution. Laws that violate the constitution, are essentially an enemy of what I swore to protect. And maybe-since you seem so needful of jumping into this conversation- what do you think should be done if millions of people with clean records, refuse to comply with a ban on firearms they own? Tell us how your solution would actually advance the good of society

Maybe you should consider ceasing with the obvious tap dancing, and tell us what happens to those who refuse to adhere to the laws of the land.
