CNN)As political Washington mulls what -- if anything -- to do legislatively to address the latest in a long line of mass murders committed with guns, a new Fox News poll has a number in it that is an absolute stunner.

That number is 67%, which reflects respondents who told pollsters that they support a ban on assault weapons. For you non-math majors out there, that's two-thirds of the American public!

Now we will see how Mitch reacts to the will of the people. Anyone think he cares?

Pro-gun people need enact some common sense gun legislation. That way the people can see they're trying to solve the problem at least.

The number of anti-gun people is going to rise and rise and eventually, all guns will be banned.

95% of the public have never seen an informed, public debate on the subject. Let's try that and see what the numbers show afterward.

They dont need to see a debate to understand that people with guns kill.

Right. The more ignorant you keep your sheep the better off we'll all be. :roll:

That's certainly Trump's belief. Well, the better of he'll be.

I guess your claim is that 95% of the public is deaf and blind

I'm fine with that. Let's get all the facts out there. Informing people is good.

1. I have to wonder how many of those poll respondents can actually define what an assault weapon is. Because most anti-2nd amendment trash won't be able to tell people the difference between a semiautomatic firearm defined as an assault weapon and one that isn't.So I doubt most people taking the poll would either. Usually when asked the difference or what defines an assault most anti-2nd amendment trash tend to whine about semantics and quibbling as though that is somehow an excuse to be ignorant piece of **** on the subject they want banned.

2. I also have to wonder if asked how would support a ban on semiautomatic firearms how many would respond with yes. Because assault weapon ban is code for banning semiautomatic firearms. So I doubt any informed firearm owner would actually support a ban on so called assault weapons.

3. A poll of a 1000 people no way represents the whole entire population of the poll.

4.Did the people conducting the poll actually verified that the poll respondents actually have firearms or did they just take their word for it? Because I doubt a firearm owner would support a ban on semiautomatic firearms. I am sure there might be a handful of firearm owners who don't really know the difference and probably inherited a gun from someone.

You will eventually lose this battle. People are tired of those one time "good guy with a gun" turning into a criminal.

Your average 5 year old knows that guns are used to kill people and automatic weapons kill more people faster... nothing to it.

They dont need to see a debate to understand that people with guns kill.

If they want to ban assault weapons then they should actually know what they **** they are in the first place.

What in Hell is an "assault weapon?"

Other than scary words designed to stigmatize and destroy fundamental constitutional rights that is.

When you start to play semantics that means that you have already lost...

Anything other than a shotgun, bolt action rifle or a pistol should be banned. Simple. Easy. Done.

Whenever I have tried to engage anti-gun control people, the thing that becomes obvious is that most of them resist every proposal of gun regulations. Few days ago, in a gun-control related thread, there were people who were trying to claim that fingerprint recognition technology would not work. People without engineer degrees and without experience with the application of such technology in the gun manufacturing business were willing to pull such claims out of their a** just as an excuse to resist a proposal that can save the lives of hundreds of children who lose their lives at home when they accidentally shoot themselves after they find unattended guns.

Connecticut's ban is the most comprehensive . I like it.

Any "selective-fire" firearm capable of fully automatic, semi-automatic or "burst fire" at the option of the user;
Any semi-automatic centerfire rifle, regardless of the date produced, that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following features: 1) A folding or telescoping stock; 2) Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, or other stock that would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing; 3) A forward pistol grip; 4) A flash suppressor; or 5) A grenade or flare launcher;
A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following features: 1) The ability to accept a detachable ammunition magazine that attaches at some location outside the pistol grip; 2) A threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward pistol grip or silencer; 3) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm without being burned (except a slide that encloses the barrel); or 4) A second hand grip;
A semi-automatic shotgun that has both of the following features: 1) A folding or telescoping stock; or 2) Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing;
A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has: 1) a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition; or 2) an overall length of less than 30 inches;
A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the ability to accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition;
A semiautomatic shotgun that can accept a detachable magazine; or
A shotgun with a revolving cylinder.[19]

Well I will grant you I have heard some dumb arguments out of the anti-gun bunch over the years, but the pro-gun bunch are no better. All of our advanced peer nations, countries like Canada, Western European countries, South Korea, Japan and so on, have mentally ill people, violent video games, violent movies and so on, yet they have between 1/4 and 1/7 our murder rate. This notion the over 300 million guns we have floating around private hands in this country don't make us less safe is nonsense. Of course they do. We still have a constitutional right to own them, but of course they make us far less safe than we would be if we had the much lower gun ownership rates that our developed peers have.

Why do you think you hunt with long guns rather than knives, homemade bombs, bats and so on? Because guns are far more efficient at killing game. If couldn't hunt with guns, there would be a fraction of the game taken every year. Murder is no different. If we did not have all these guns floating around, our murder rate would a fraction what it is, just like it is in all of our developed peer nations.

That doesn't change the fact we all have a constitutional right to gun ownership, but don't pretend there is not a huge societal cost to that right.

That would require an amendment to the constitution, I wouldn't say that is simple or easy.

Assault weapons are already banned. /thread.

So all semiautomatic rifles. IF the poll question asked that then I doubt most of those 1000 people who took the poll would be in support of that.

BTW many pistols and shot guns are defined as assault weapons too. Are you cool with those being banned too? Also not all semiautomatic rifles are defined as assault weapons.

What percent of this 2/3 believes that "assault weapons" are machine guns?

Was the term even defined in the survey?
