Autopsy finds Jeffrey Epstein had several broken neck bones

My understanding is that the 'bed sheets' used in that prison are actually made of paper...specifically so they cant be used for hanging. Now...I get it...you can roll paper and make it strong...but it seems like there was some sort of perfect storm that brewed that night to allow him the time to off himself.

Bit by bit the actual facts will emerge. Meanwhile, there's the fun of speculating and vilifying this or that political party or person(s). This has nicely taken over the focus on the recent mass shootings. Our congressmen and congressladies are breathing a bit easier.

I can see the hyoid bone getting crushed from pressure across the neck, but unless he was able to hand his full body weight during hanging from the neck, I have to say it's surprising that he has other broken bones in his cervical spine.

I doubt it.

The "investigation" will reveal a series of "unfortunate missteps" which allowed Epstein the opportunity to commit suicide... but the good news is that a committee of experts will be commissioned to examine all aspects of detainment at facilities like this and recommend changes in both procedure and policy which will ensure that something like this NEVER happens again.:roll:

100% this was murder, I'm convinced about that. I don't know if anyone remembers the comment I made a day after the autopsy, and I'm looking for that post now, but I explained the physical signs that are usually used to determine the cause of death between a strangulation and a suicide. I explained that there's a bone in the neck above the larynx called the hyoid bone. If that's found fractured on autopsy, that's a pretty strong indication that death was caused by strangulation.

If there's any medical doctors here in this forum, I will ask for your opinion. Do you concur or not?

It doesn't matter at this point whether a person from any particular party murdered Epstein. It matters, period. Someone very wealthy, and very powerful got to him. That's the important thing. It could be anyone, even someone nobody ever heard of but someone very wealthy with a lot to lose if Epstein ever testified.

An autopsy will show if the hyoid bone was fractured which is normally seen in a strangulation and not necessarily in a suicide. There should be an investigation before the AG comes to conclusions.

I wasn't really endorsing the conspiracy theory earlier, but the more we hear the shadier it seems.

I think there are folk on both sides of the isle that didn't want anything to come to light. Whether this was simply suicide or something more grand, I suppose we will hope to learn in time.

What makes you say that? Sure, Clinton was known to hang out with him, but he's been out of power for quite some time, so I have little or no investment in the outcome of that involvement. On the other hand, the current leader of the GOP was known to hang out with. He died on that man's watch. The consequence of that involvement could be significant.

I imagine a lot of upper class people of all political parties are, not just Democrats. But not surprising that you think sick people are only on one side of the aisle.

Just playing devils advocate here but why couldn't that same bone be fractured by hanging from a bed sheet? We're basically talking about two different forms of strangulation. One via human hands and the other via gravity combined with a bed sheet.

If you look at the figure that I've posted, you can see that the hyoid bone is rather high in the throat. Neck strangulation usually happens when a person suffocates from lack of oxygen caused by a rope or bed sheet. Look at photos online of hanging, they're grisly for sure but note the position of the noose. It's usually below that hyoid bone. The fracture of that bone, and in Epstein's autopsy "multiple bones", took a great force. Perhaps if he hung himself with a rope and jumped off the roof of the building it would be enough gravitational force to break several bones including the pharynx. Of course he didn't jump from the roof, yet that hyoid bone and possibly the larynx were fractured. That takes force, a great force.

If Epstein had the means to hang himself from say, a ceiling light, something high up, it would be difficult for him to abort his own suicide if he was standing on a chair and tipped the chair over causing him to swing. When a person is found "suffocated" by suicide on the floor, that's suspicious too because a human in the process of self-hanging instinctively will extricate themselves. We've all heard about 'autoerotic asphyxiation'-- there's an instinct that kicks in just as the person is about to expire and they loosen up the rope or belt that they're using. Some don't do it in time and they die just as David Carradine did.

I'm not a doctor, but I watch a lot of true crime. It's not an indication that it's 100% murder at all. The hyoid bone can be broken by either strangulation or hanging.

FYI - digsbe is a doctor. You could message him and ask him to respond.
