U.S. budget deficit widens; spending up on health, military - Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government’s deficit widened to $120 billion in July, fueled by increases in spending on health care and the military, according to data released on Monday by the Treasury Department.

The Treasury Department said federal spending in July was $371 billion, up 23% from the same month in 2018, while receipts were $251 billion, up 12% compared with July 2018.

The fiscal-year-to-date deficit was $867 billion, compared with $684 billion in the comparable year-earlier period.
How does one state they are against new spending, unless paid for with another balancing cut, then vote for massive revenue drops under the tax cuts and then have the gall to state they are against deficits.

I would not utilize these people for investment decisions.

Why is spending on the military up when Trump and his drooling fans tell us he has wiped out ISIS and all other threats and we are living in the most peaceful era in the history of this country?

And what happened to his promise of reducing the deficit?

Once Trump has made America great again the deficit will be gone. That is why he needs three more terms in office. It will take that long to make America great again

Sure wish you radicals would understand the line items in the budget as well as the revenue streams from the taxes paid. Apparently that isn't going to happen

The 2020 budget is 4.7 trillion dollars made up of 1.4 trillion in discretionary spending, 2.8 trillion in mandatory spending and the rest debt service on the inherited debt. FIT and CIT revenue will be approaching 2 trillion dollars and that revenue funds the discretionary spending and debt service. Isn't it time radicals stopped showing their class envy and jealousy and recognize that it is entitlement spending that is causing the problem and NOT TAX CUTS?

One word: government.

Trump was going to fix it, It was going to be gone by now, instead it's a quarter bigger than it was last year! He's never been good with money.

Only three more terms? Hell, make him President for life.

I find it interesting that every anti Trump thread finds you and the same group of radicals. Apparently this is a nice diversion from the personal problems each of you has in your own life as Trump isn't the problem you people are!

What is gone is logic and common sense as both died a horrible death destroyed by liberalism and spending in the name of compassion!

It was another one of Trump's many lies that his drooling fan base actually believed.

Sure wish the head in the sand types would realize the government has many different programs that the people and the government have enacted. All require funding, without adequate funding you run a deficit. Cutting revenue will just increase the deficit.

I did not see any real spending cut, nor increases in revenue in the latest budget Trump agreed to

During Trump's term? he sure turn the improving Obama numbers around.

Yes spending in the name of compassion and not results are all that matters! Learn the role of the state and local governments when it comes to compassion

In which version of reality?

Spending bills originate in Congress.

Well he is the CnC (Child in Chief). 2020 will be quite dirty. It will be interesting to see how Republicans will do in the suburbs. Moderate Dems won a lot of new seats in 18, wonder what and how well they will do in 2020

Same ole, same ole. The Party of Fiscal Irresponsibility, who claims to be the Party of Fiscal Responsibility, strikes again. Pathetic. They show their incompetence over and over.

I remember when the Republicans used to clamor for fiscal responsibility. Now they're just as big spending, big debt as the Democrats.

They are light-years worse than the Democrats. Clinton/Gore worked with a Republican congress to balance the budget. After cleaning up the GW Bush recession mess (and other GW travesties), Obama started reducing the deficit nicely.
