The New York Times is reporting that President Donald Trump is “strongly considering” commuting the 14-year prison sentence of Rod R. Blagojevich, citing remarks he made on Air Force One as well as two people familiar with the president's plans.

Blagojevich, the former Illinois governor, was convicted of trying to trade President Barack Obama’s vacated Senate seat for personal gain.

The Times reports that Trump described the incriminating phone call in which Blagojevich was taped discussing selling the seat as mostly a minor offense and something “many” politicians have done.

Quite honestly, I'm aghast. What is Trump thinking, here? Blago is the "worst of the worst!". He's literally the personification of the crooked pol on the make, selling-out his citizenry to line his pockets via criminal graft & corruption!

And what is with the last very paragraph, I quoted above? The one where Trump claims Blago's actions were "minor", and that "many politicians do it". What??? Is Trump condoning, or trivializing this type of corruption?

In a state/county/city that is synonymous with corruption, a local jury of 12 peer citizens found Blago guilty-beyond-doubt of 17 of 20 felony charges! Felonies! Think about it: It was Chicagoans that found him to be crooked! Chicagoans!

Prior to his trial & conviction, the good people of Illinois had the good sense to impeach & removed Blago from office! He literally sold appointed seats to the highest bidder, including a Senate seat. Sold for hard cash for his pockets, and for high-paying political government appointments for his wife & family members to line their pockets further.

Blago is the sleaziest & swampiest criminal the crooked swamp has to offer. The good citizens of Illinois worked extremely hard to get him off the street, out of government, and behind bars. It is my strong belief that Trump should not over-turn the will of the people that suffered under Blago & his cronies, but should rather respect the wishes of the citizens as represented through the actions of the jury.

Yes, that's preposterous. By all appearances from what he said, he's looking to pardon Blago because it would be good trolling.

Well... Trump does seem to have a time of it with Cabinet vacancies, and Blagojevich is someone that Trump would find good for the job.

Insider, corrupt to the hills and back, selling influence, willing to break a law or two to get ahead... all checks.

Interesting that one of the few Democrats who is as crooked as tRump would find favor from his majesty. Maybe tRump is trying to set a precedent for when he finally gets caught?

I read that Jared was hoping for a pardon and Trump is leaning to commutation. ............because it would be “good” for the Democrats? ......and Mrs. Blagojevich is “amazing!”. .........Oh, and he was on “The Apprentice!”

Yeah!

That will go a long way towards him making himself into king of the swamp!

Hasn't Trump commuted the sentence of others that have done far worse?
I believe he served 9 years of a 14 year sentence.
I don't consider him a danger to society.

Don't just think of doing it, Donald.

Do it.

There are plenty of pols who have done far worse but have never been prosecuted -- for certain reasons.

Yes, that's preposterous. By all appearances from what he said, he's looking to pardon Blago because it would be good trolling.
Yes, but do you have faith Trump won't do it? Or, won't pardon Manafort either?

Sorry, but I don't have that faith.

My God, that's a scenario I never even considered. I wouldn't put it past him to find a spot for him somewhere, even if just in his campaign.

Blagojevich better brush up his “Harry Potter!”

Usually when these rumors get to this stage, it’s policy......

Yeah, but Trump is over-ruling the will of the good citizens that suffered under him, and subsequently worked hard to get him off the streets. His imprisonment serves as a determinant. Trump's actions seem to reflect his attitude on criminal corruption by those in government and the ingrained swamp. Hell, he speaks fondly of Paul Manafort. Think about that.

I question...Amazing at what? Do I dare ask? Does she have similar qualities to Melania perhaps? Did they both suck the right dicks?

This guy found the Administration position for Blagojevich!

Yeah right. He's not paying attention to Mrs. Blagoyevich...
Aim younger...like maybe the daughter.
Remember, Trump likes em young and vulnerable.

Yep, that was also my thinking as well with Patti. It didn't hurt that a skirt got his attention. She's been lobbying him incessantly, including appearing on Fox.

Sorry, but I don't have that faith.

There's no faith when it comes to anything Trump does. Will he do it? Who knows?

Yup, I saw it and I'm sure Mr. Tiny Hands saw it too and his tiny mushro...oh wait, I just got a Presidential Alert on my phone...

In that case, Trump must have taken a "special" shine to Jesse Jackson and Jesse Jr. along with all members of the Rainbow/PUSH coalition ... :lamo

July 16, 2019 - "The Rev. Jesse Jackson and his son, former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., himself a convicted felon, have written a letter to President Donald Trump seeking the release and full pardon of imprisoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Rainbow/PUSH Coalition spokesman has confirmed.

The Jacksons’ letter seeking mercy for Blagojevich was dated Friday, a day before former Illinois first lady Patti Blagojevich appeared with the Rev. Jackson and others at his Rainbow/PUSH Coalition headquarters to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of three U.S. Army soldiers captured by Yugoslavian forces. The Wall Street Journal was first to report the letter from the Jacksons to Trump. ..."

“We stand with his family as they seek a full pardon for a father and husband that has served most of a sentence that was far longer than the offense deserved,” the Chicago-based father and son wrote in the letter to Trump.

Hey if you want to accuse Trump of having a hankering for Jessie Jackson, that's none of my damn business.

There's no faith when it comes to anything Trump does. Will he do it? Who knows?
I think the disconnect many have with understanding Trump, is because they did not follow Maya Angelou's
sage advice:

"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time"

Also, further consideration might be given to Voltaire:

"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

Well I hope he does not get it......

A federal grand jury in Illinois returned an indictment against Blagojevich and five other defendants on April 2, 2009.[3] Blagojevich is the seventh Illinois Governor to have been arrested or indicted;[20] and became the fourth, following Dan Walker, who was jailed from 1987 to 1989.[21] As well as the allegations concerning the Senate seat, Blagojevich has also been charged with:

Attempting to extort the owners of the Tribune Company to fire Chicago Tribune editors who criticized the governor's handling of state affairs.
Abuse of power concerning release of US$8 million of state funds to Children's Memorial Hospital expecting to obtain a $50,000 campaign contribution.[8][11]
Seeking graft in the form of $2.5 million in campaign contributions (through 2008) from companies and individuals who have received state contracts or appointments.[22]

On January 2, 2009 Governor Blagojevich's federal security clearance was revoked by the United States Department of Homeland Security.[23]

You're supporting the swamp, including Trump, protecting themselves and closing ranks. Every dirty crooked criminally convicted Chicago pol, including the Jacksons, are lobbying to continue their nefarious ways with as little consequence as possible. You're picking really sleazy criminal bedfellows, here.
