Trump vows to end birthright citizenship with executive order

President Donald Trump said in an interview that he plans to sign an executive order ending "birthright citizenship" for the children of non-American citizens who are born on U.S. soil, a move that would likely be challenged immediately in the courts over its constitutionality.

"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don't," Trump told "Axios on HBO" in an interview set to air Sunday, just two days before the midterm election. "You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they're saying I can do it just with an executive order."

I don't wanna say I was right that Trump is a racist fascist, but what I am saying is electing a racist landlord as President was probably not the best idea.

He will lose when it goes to court, so meh.

Oct. 2018 is Breaking News? Who knew?

Trump will ignore a thousand qualified people telling him no you can't t do that.

But one guy somewhere on the Interwebs posts something and trump will say "I've been told" and go ahead with his video....

For all their human faults, our founders were pretty frikkin’ sharp.

They were indeed. Thats why America is the greatest country in the world. :2usflag:

President of the United States of America says many things. Some of them may be true. In many instances of utterances, however, he appears to be doing nothing more than throwing chunks of red meat to his base. The type of meat or the cut doesn't seem to matter to his loyal enablers as long as it discomforts 'them'*.

* 'Them' = you know who, right? Right? [Wink, wink.]

Greatest in what? I'm seriously asking you this question.

Perhaps that is finally the grounds for impeachment Pelosi has been waiting for. ;)

Somehow I doubt it. Pelosi obviously wants to wait for the election to get rid of Trump and I see nothing that will change that for her.

He is doing one other thing: He's throwing chunks of nothingburger to the Trump haters...and they are rabidly gorging themselves on it.

In everything. Our military, economy, leadership, system of government, you name it. The Founding Fathers created a truly unique democracy with proper checks and balances that works and has withstood the test of time- it shows just how brilliant their concepts were.

Birthright citizenship has its roots in English common law and it wasn't until the passage of the 14th amendment that citizenship was guaranteed for former slaves and their offspring.

You think the Republicans are going to impeach their own election strategy?

They've been using the racist Southern Strategy for over 1/2 a century now, and now that they've gathered all the racists under their banner, they've abandoned it for straight up racist tropes, like "Go back where you came from."

Hi! And thanks for commenting. Both the right and the left are making hay out of the brouhaha. Unfortunately, neither side realizes that the best Rx for demagogues is laughter.

Regards.

sorry, Chancellor Squirrelhead, you can't overturn a constitutional amendment with an EO. also, i didn't mean the "sorry" part. it was only for effect.

Perhaps getting it into the SCOTUS is exactly what he wants. Did you know Native Americans did not have birth right citizenship until that right was given to them by the Snyder act in 1924. So its isn't a slam dunk that kids born in the US from non citizen parents are citizens.

I hope to vote again for President Trump.

But I am realistic about him: He is all hat, no cattle.

That's why the politicians in D.C. do not fear him: He threatens to do all kinds of things but never does.

Last Sunday's ICE action was a big pathetic nothing burger, for example.

Foreign-born women in this country having American children are laughing at his empty thread, as well they should.
