Luther, did you think the Tarmac Meeting was problematic? If so, why? If not, why not?
Did you? Be honest.

Barr shut the investigation down? Did he give a reason?
I don't understand any of this. What's in it for Barr? Why is he throwing his good name and reputation away for a piece of excrement like Trump?
I'm starting to think Trump has naked pictures of Barr with a woman.
Does anyone have a link to the documents themselves? What I'm reading is essentially the same story reported on by different outlets. That leads me to believe that the current reporting is based on some kind of summary and I'd sure like to see the actual source.
The other thing that strikes me is that these documents were supposed to show the reason for the raid on Cohen's office. I haven't seen that reported anywhere. Did they really conduct a raid like that based on an accusation of campaign finance violations?
Despite solid evidence that Donald Trump committed campaign finance fraud, the investigation into payments to keep sex with a stripper quiet was shut down recently, with no charges filed against anybody. In addition, Hope Hicks lied to Congress about her involvement in the scheme. No charges will be filed against her either.
By now it should be patently obvious that Barr will shut down every Federal investigation into Trump in order to clear his path to 2020.

Was anyone charged? No? Nothing to it, then.

I've been able to get through the first 60 pages, including the FBI's probable cause for the Stormy Daniels payment information. The FBI testimony on those pages does nothing to implicate Trump in the payment plan. It even cites an email Cohen sent to himself which explicitly states that he knew the accusations Daniels was making were false. Granted, that email appears to have been quite contrived by Cohen but nothing else in that section indicates that Daniels' accusations were true. The whole thing was a shakedown.

Asked by CBS News' Jan Crawford about concerns over his reputation for defending the president amid ongoing probes into the administration's alleged ties to the Russian government and claims that Mr. Trump obstructed justice, Barr appeared indifferent.
"I am at the end of my career," Barr said. "Everyone dies and I am not, you know, I don't believe in the Homeric idea that you know, immortality comes by, you know, having odes sung about you over the centuries, you know?"

The meeting with Bill Clinton and Lynch? I think it was suspicious. The timing and circumstances were certainly unusual and the explanation we got from Lynch was...convenient. If they were discussing the progress and pending culmination of the email investigation it would definitely be problematic.
Right before Barr took over, there were some 18 or so Federal investigations into Trump and his organizations. Since he took over as AG, 100% of those investigations have ended or gone dark.
Likely Barr was chosen because of his record in protecting Abrams and others in Iran-Contra. Perhaps he became a 'made man' at that point in his career?
Why would it be problematic? In principle, I mean.
It afforded the opportunity for obstruction of justice.
Is it a problem even if you don't know that it happened?
Alternate question: did that meeting give you reason to suspect that the outcome of that investigation might not have been entirely on the up-and-up?
Like I said, it presented a specific opportunity for obstruction. Based on the Comey decision regarding the Clinton investigation and the proximity of that announcement to Comey deciding that no reasonable prosecutor would take up the case against Clinton it sure looks coincidental if not downright suspicious.

And that's a problem if the DOJ wants the public to think that the case was handled fairly and professionally, right?
And what are the consequences if a significant percentage of the American public doesn't believe it was handled fairly and professionally?
But the judge ordered the documents unsealed. It's like he handed the evidence for impeachment to Congress on a silver platter.
Well, there is a bit of a difference. The biggest difference is that Obama's AG was running the show the whole time Hillary's emails were being investigated. Barr only came along well AFTER the Trump investigations got rolling and the whole time those investigations were rolling there was this Mueller guy handling the investigation and that Mueller guy provided an completely independent report of his findings which was released to the public by...BARR!
The concern with the tarmac meeting is that no real investigation was ever done. The concern with Barr, near as I can tell (because it's really hard for me to wrap my head around it) is that the Democrats don't like what Mueller said after TWO YEARS of investigation.
Yup. And the chair Pelosi is sitting in just got a lot hotter.
