Trump digs in on racist tweets: ‘Many people agree with me’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defiant in the face of widespread criticism, President Donald Trump renewed his belligerent call on Monday for four Democratic congresswomen of color to get out of the U.S. “right now,” cementing his position as the most willing U.S. leader in generations to stoke the discord that helped send him to the White House.

Content to gamble that a sizeable chunk of the electorate embraces his tweets that have been widely denounced as racist, the president made clear that he has no qualms about exploiting racial divisions once again.

“It doesn’t concern me because many people agree with me,” Trump said at the White House. “A lot of people love it, by the way.”

The episode served notice that Trump is willing to again rely on incendiary rhetoric on issues of race and immigration to preserve his political base in the leadup to the 2020 election.

COMMENT:-

This time Mr. Trump IS 100% correct - many Americans DO agree with him. They are quite on board with his suggestion that anyone who isn't white and male should not have any say in the governance of the United States of America and that they should all "go back where they came from" (regardless of whether they, and their parents, and their grandparents, and their great grandparents, and their great great grandparents were born in America).

Sad, isn't it?

Just wondering if anyone can explain exactly how the tweets are racist.

Boorish and perhaps even xenophobic, I can see. But racist? Please do explain.

“Go back to where you came from” is literally a textbook example of racist harassment. (from the US EEOC handbook)

Dont believe me? Find the nearest person of color. Anyone. Tell them to go back to their country, to their face.

White people telling coloured people to go back to where they come from has long been a racist trope.

Are you being obtuse? This is obvious, everyone knows this. And we're talking about the leader of the racist Birther Movement.

There is a tendency in thinking Trump is being a cunning evil genius. I just think he is succumbing to his nature and it's getting the best of him.

If I called him a typical dumb-ass racist, it would be an insult to typical dumb-ass racists.

Go up to any black person and tell them to go back where they came from. Go on and try it.

Many people agreed with Charles Manson, Adolf Hitler, and Reverend Jim Jones. It sure doesn't mean that what they believe is either good or moral.

He didn't actually say anything about 'coloured' (isn't that considered a slur now these days?) people. Or mention anyone's race

So again, please explain exactly how his tweets were racist.

Go up to any black person and tell them to go back where they came from. Go on and try it.

I'm a person of Indian descent. If someone said it to me I'd laugh and tell them that Kansas City is too muggy in the summer to go back.

Now, anything of substance to actually address my question?

Glad that you have sense of humor about blatant racism.

Again, willful ignorance. This is a well know racist trope.

Provide all the quotes of Trump telling white politicians to go back where they came from. You must be able to provide a lot, because there are a lot more white people in American politics.

Everyone knows this is a racist trope. He would never do this, because he knows perfectly well he might get smacked in the face.

Based on Trump's primary strategy for energizing his base, Trump believes his base will support racism, but he thinks they're cowards and lack the balls to admit it, so they will snivel and pretend they don't understand.

Based on Trump's strategy, that's what he thinks of his base:

Trump's Midterm Closing Argument: Pure Racial Fear

LOL, the next thing they're going to be telling us is there's nothing racist about wearing white robes and pointy hats...these are "very fine people" just practicing for Halloween!

There is no need to mention the names since the description was clear about them. And the next day Trump continued to support his tweet instead of saying that he did not mean to attack the four non-white Congresswomen.

By the way, I find it interesting that you point that saying "coloured" is inappropriate , but you chose to present yourself as somebody of "Indian descent"

Xenophobia and boorish ignorance. Still not seeing the racism/
Let's see how many agree. Go around your workplace and tell folks to go back to their countries. Make sure HR is aware.

Make sure to note whether xenophobia and boorish ignorance are listed in the general report.

Okay?

Here is another way (demonstration) to explain it to you:

Anybody who thinks that a tweet is racists only when it mentions the specific names of the non-white representatives or the word "race" is an illiterate _________(fill in the blank with an inappropriate word) reader who does not understand context. I hope you will not take anything personally since I never mentioned your name anywhere.

Gawd, I hope he continues.

To defend it because it didn't say something "racist" is as ridiculous as saying there's nothing wrong with wearing KKK robes because there is nothing racist about wearing a white cloth and hood...it could be a ghost outfit.

Racist assclowns agree with him.

That is how they got elected.

Again, that is a declaration, not an explanation. It's easy enough just to say you can't explain it, and end things there.
