Man gets life plus 419 years in deadly Charlottesville car attack

Charlottesville, Virginia — An avowed white supremacist was sentenced to life plus 419 years on federal hate crime charges Monday for deliberately driving his car into anti-racism protesters during a white nationalist rally in Virginia. James Alex Fields Jr., 22, received the sentence for killing one person and injuring dozens during the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville on Aug. 12, 2017.

That's a little bit of justice. Let's keep that up.

He might get off in 100 years for good behavior

In his deranged mind, he was driving a white horse into evil foes. Obviously he can never get out. Despite all his "heroic" work for the Aryan Nation, he won't rise above crash dummy. He'll have dreams of becoming a prison gang lieutenant.

Glad to see that justice was done for Heather, her family and friends.

Good to see.

People are acting like he can't become wildly popular in ticky torch circles of dudes with funny haircuts and khakis. You know who I mean. The guys who went back to their jobs after screaming that Jews wouldn't replace them?

I never understood sentences like that. Why the additional 400+ years after death? What purpose does that serve?

at the rate we’re going, we might not be here if we don’t get a handle on the so called progressives...that’s the true scourge of the planet with thier kumbiya attitude.

From what I have read with five minutes of Googling it appears it is because he was found guilty of multiple crimes so he gets multiple sentences that add up to that. I assume he got life for the murder plus 419 years for all the other people he harmed. It is a bit of a technicality and a bit symbolic. Or look at it this way if he was ever absolved of the murder and the life sentence because of some technicality he still has 419 years to serve.

Wasn't he one of those "very fine people" that was just scared and defending himself?

Naw, with good behavior, over crowding, finding god, adopting an lgbt child, caring for rescue dogs and pigeons, his paint therapy program with the cute social worker, he'll be back out on the mean streets in only 82 years, in a body bag.

To some he's their martyr, to still others, he's the real victim. To others, he's still a role model.
And all of those are on the Right. They are legion.

Yeah, it's like people forget he was standing next to guys ready to do exactly as he did right before running over dozens of people and killing 1. Liberals rejoicing with this are missing the point that he isn't alone. Most of the goofballs at antifa can barely firebomb a place without getting shot. These guys are running over people, walking into churches and syngagogues and killing scores of people. Our president seems to think there are good people on both sides. There is nothing I would find good about people who are on the same side he is on. They're still with us.

I agree 100%.

The additional 400 years is done by the court to show how "woke" it is.

In reality, such sentences make a mockery of "justice."

Justified in extreme cases, but not here.

Disagree
This was an intentional act to do harm to a large number of people. One died, many more injured.
There is no question of his guilt. No mistaken identity. No malfunction of his vehicle.
This guy deserves the death penalty.

I'd say 25 to 40 years, but our >justice system< is completely insane, so he received the cruel/unusual 419 in ADDITION to the generally cruel and unusual life.

Insane.

thats awesome, I think hate crimes should be mandatory life...like Smollett, that somamabitch tried to fuel the fires in the Country, that should never be tolerated.

Unless of course it's trump fanning the flames then it's loving america. Smollett has nothing to do with the guy in the car.

Too bad we can’t get liberals to agree to the death penalty.

The reason a pro-death penalty person (like myself) is STILL against it ANYWAY is because I've seen enough wrongfully convicted/executed persons for several lifetimes, and therefore I've concluded that man cannot be trusted with such decisions even when the crime screams for it.

We simply have demonstrated again and again, no matter how egregious and outrageous a miscarriage of justice is exposed in our midst, there exists a willingness to dole out death sentences like candy, and our justice system is prone to digging its heels in even when exonerating evidence is shoved directly down their throats.

Therefore even though my logical side understands the need to dispense the ultimate penalty for certain heinous crimes, my spiritual side forbids me. And my spiritual side eventually won the argument forever in my soul.
