House Dems use Obama-era photos to promote ‘kids in cages’ hearing | Fox News

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have deleted tweets that promoted an upcoming Wednesday afternoon hearing on “kids in cages” after being called out for using Obama-era images of migrants in detention to highlight current conditions at the border.

“Last week, members of our committee visited a detention center at the southern border and discovered grotesque treatment of children,” the first tweet, posted Tuesday afternoon, said. “This week, we are examining the inhumane treatment of the children in these detention centers.”

But the tweet included a photograph taken by The Associated Press in 2014, during the Obama administration, showing migrants in detention in Arizona. The Trump campaign flagged the soon-deleted tweet and noted the image comes from a time when current Democratic presidential primary front-runner Joe Biden was vice president.

“House Democrats are promoting their 'civil rights' hearing on ‘kids in cages’ and ‘inhumane treatment’ with a photo from 2014, when Joe Biden was Vice President,” the tweet read. “So dishonest!”
Seems we've gone over this before, and everyone knows these places are filled beyond capacity. They're the same ones used by Obama. The "kids in cages" is just more political pandering.

It's like the gang that could not shoot straight. Over and over!
Last May the BP detained about 144,000 illegal aliens. The system is over flowing.
Why would the democrats in congress not fix this? Change a couple laws and there would be
no overcrowded conditions. Because they want headlines blaring Kids in cages but it's
comical when they use photos from when Obama was president! Nothing but a giant clown show
for them.

Trump changed policy, which exacerbated the problem, and his supporters claim it was a feature, not a bug, and yet it's the Dem's fault for not just giving Trump everything he wants?

This is a game of political chicken. Either the Dems collapse because people are demanding they do as Trump asks, or Trump backs off because he loses support for his policy of intentionally being cruel to dissuade people from coming here.

That his supporters consistently "forget" that Trump changed the detention policy shows how that battle's going so far.

Why shouldn't the Dems just stand back and let Trump prove just how mean he's willing to be to poor people?

For the 1000th time, The minors locked up under Obama were unaccompanied. Not purposefully ripped from parents like this administration is doing, even admitted that's what they were going to do.

That's how pathetic and dumb the right are, what, even if dems used that picture, that somehow means all the other pictures, eyewitness accounts, evidence that it is happening means that its not happening?

**** off right wingers, seriously

Removing children from their parents and putting them in cages and overcrowded facilities is a deliberate policy by the Trump administration as a deterrent against future refugees.

That seems like a noteworthy difference to me.

Kids have always been separated from the adults, and oftentimes they aren't even the real parents.

When will you drink the kool-aid and realize there is no crisis. Just ask Schumer and Pelosi.
It’s funny, AOC complains about the conditions than votes against funding.

Refugee families have not always been separated as a means of frightening future refugees from entering the country. That is a Trump Administration policy.

Then why use photos from then?

Why not shots relevant to the subject at hand?

When they try to sneak in, yes they have.

Yes, I'm well aware that the cruelty is the point. I made my post in response to American's OP that suggested there was any form of equivalence between now and what happened under Obama.

Pics of tweets or it didn't happen.

And my post was in response to that.

The only thing...the ONLY thing...that's changed, is that Trump has demanded that asylum seekers are 100% vetted prior to being granted asylum, and while waiting on that process, they remain in detention centers, rather than be allowed in the a promise to reappear in court.

Now, having said that...

I don't think it would be too much to ask for space set aside for family orientation, at these detention centers. But there's a snag there, too. How do you know they are truly family? And of course, doing this...might just require some funding...

So how was it less 'cruel' for a child to be separated from his or her parents during the Obama Admin than it is during the Trump Admin?

Meanwhile here's a delicious irony to add to this thread.

Trump Wall Tweet.jpg

The pictures were taken during Obama admin.

What were the circumstances during those separations? Be detailed and specific. Cite your sources.

You're attempting to move the conversation away from the fact that the child separation policy under Trump is deliberately intended to be cruel in order to deter future refugees.

Change a couple of laws? What would those be?

It was for unaccompanied children. For children together with their family, the simple attempt to enter the country was not enough of a reason for separating them from their parents. For this reason, the federal system under Obama couldhandle the cases of children separation without creating the conditions we see today in overcrowded centers with kids that do not have even basic necessities.

The same issue-- people with children crossing the border illegally and it being against the law to put children in jail.

Why would parents being separated from children be less of a deterent to illegal immigrants in the Obama Admin than in the Trump Admin?

And because there was a lot fewer of them who were attempting to cross illegally.
