I did say "...with the exception of roads specified by the Military District of Washington".
By the way, apparently the Zeus weighs eleven thousand pounds.
That's nowhere near what a tank weighs, not even if you include the truck the missile is being transported on.

I was WRONG because that is a Nike Zeus LIM49A and it actually weighs 29000 pounds, (appx 15 tons) but that's still only about a quarter of the weight of a modern tank and well within ICC weight regulations for ordinary truck freight.

Plus, those old IH/Diamond T trucks usually had about 220 HP/~400 lb ft TORQUE whereas a modern tank has about 1500 horsepower, not that they'd be doing any speed trials. But in any case, it IS a factor because a tank does not start off from a standstill in a delicate manner.

I have parked tanks before. True it was only a two day temp labor gig but that IS what the sixteen of us did all day long, we parked military surplus trucks and a handful of tanks at an auction site. They're not gentle on takeoff! (LOL) (not surprising)

Abrams M1A1 - 125,000 lb

Abrams by a fair amount.
 
Anyone who has taken a tracked vehicle down a road knows the results. Anyone who has been part of a tracked convoy on a road can't possibly miss the results.

I have driven one tank.... An old M103 at the Reserve unit I mentioned. It actually outweighed many of the Abrams series. 130000lbs

My daughter asked how it can be impossible to drive tanks all over DC when the White House, Capitol Building, Pentagon etc are all there.

I told her, it's not that it is impossible, it's that it would be very damaging.
And of course I also said that "if you ever DO see tanks running around near ANY of the places you described", it's a pretty safe bet that World War Three has started, so either lead, follow, help, get out of the way, seek cover or bend over and kiss your ass good-bye.
And of course in the case of war no one gets to be picky about how the streets will be treated anymore.

That's more than me because parking isn't really "driving".
I think we might have traveled 300 yards at the most on any of them.
It kind of ridiculous because as one of the guys said, "driving them around in a lot or a field is easy, it's moving them one inch that's extremely difficult, and in TWO inches you've hit the building your CO did not want you to hit, and there's Hell to pay."

He sounded almost like he was speaking from experience (LOL).

The lightest version of an Abrams tank is 60 short tons. Which is equal to 120,000 lbs. Which would make it over 26,000 lbs heavier. And it's is on tracks. Not wheels. And totally geared and steered differently than a truck with a trailer. Some Abrams tanks are as heavy as 147,000 + lbs

Family day at the tank depot. Do a loop of the practice ground with a half drunk Marine watching us over the shoulder. I got to run over a flattened car though. Maybe 100yds tops.

Most people are surprised that a little over 200 HP could move any of that stuff but back in WW2 days 50 mph was considered a pretty brisk "turnpike speed" for cars and most trucks were expected to top out around 45 or so.

I would not be surprised if the administration moves funds intended for helping the conditions in detention centers in order to cover the parade's expenses. They can find a way to bypass the few anyway restrictions of how to allocate the funds.

Actually no, they are not typically a big show of military force. Sometimes there's a small contingent of uniformed military, but NO there is not a big military show of force with tanks and other armament. It's majorettes, marching bands, police forces marching. This isn't N. Korea yet and DPRK soldiers practice for years, and if they aren't in sync, they're not fed that day.

Emmanuel Macron has carried on the traditions of Bastille Day, which has celebrated the unity of the French since 1790. It was the end of their own civil war, the French Revolution. Macron doesn't parade a hundred thousand soldiers in Kim Il-sung Square with full missiles on display rolling down the square. Speaking of cobblestone, that's one reason why France CAN roll their tanks down the Champs-Élysées, it doesn't tear up the road. Our July 4th memorial parade's signify our independence from England's rule.

No, Emmanuel Macron is no dictator. France is a free country. There's no gulags with a hundred thousand of his own people being kept in concentration camps.
