Supreme Court allows severe partisan gerrymandering to continue

I'm still waiting for all those anti-American leftist scum promising to leave the US once Trump got elected. As expected, leftists are nothing but liars and hypocrites.

This is the reason why I do not believe that there will be a second Civil War if such day comes when blue states decide that it is not worth it to let rural states establish the tyranny of their minority.

Who is going to fight for the Union and why? The conservatives will be thrilled to see CA, NY and other Blue States to leave the Union .

The idea that something that happened in the past is destined to repeat itself is a fantasy. World history shows many political entities which survived many civil wars and stayed in power for many centuries or even a thousand years up until the day came where the whole thing collapsed. US is just a baby, and it will be unwise for people to think that the Union is destined to remain. If voters, politicians, and judges refuse to act responsibly, they play with fire and will leave the next generation before an uncertain future.

I understand that their visa applications are being processed right after all of the visa applications from all those anti-American rightist scum that promised to leave the US if Mr. Obama was elected have been processed.

Although it is not generally known, Canada actually had FOUR "civil wars" (the Canadians called them "rebellions" just like the Union government called the actions of the southern states). Of course the first two of those were about as serious as barroom brawls (and accomplished about as much), the "rebels" actually won the third one (because they achieved all of their stated reasons for rebelling), and most of the leaders of the fourth have now been exonerated by the Canadian government (the latest exoneration coming about because the Canadian government has finally gotten around to admitting that if it hadn't been for that person then the "federal troops" would have been slaughtered to a man as they were ill equipped, ill trained, ill led, ill supplied, and had decided to attack a well led, well equipped, well trained, superior force that was in a highly defensible position across open ground while refusing to follow the orders of their officers and commanders).

I know, "Booooorrrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnnggggg!"

I don't disagree with the last statement, but we can't get broadbased appeal while partisan gerrymandering controls the nomination process.

"Gerrymandering" had next to nothing whatsoever to do with "the nominating process".

"The nominating process" is, has been for over 50 years, and is highly likely to be "controlled" by those with significant amounts of money.

We're still smarting over the "pig war" here... ;)

As we informed the anti-American leftist scum in 1861, you can leave the US whenever you like, but you cannot take any US territory with you. So feel free to leave California, New York, or any other leftist sh*thole State, but don't for a second think that those States will ever leave the US, even if they wanted to leave. We certainly aren't going to reward leftist scum who try so desperately to destroy the nation.

Those in 1861 are in your side now and hold the Confederate banner, and they believe in State Rights...

As I said, If you think that acting in the legislative, executive and judicial level in a way that undermines fair representation will save the Union, you play with fire.

p.s. By the way, rural societies with lower population did not fare well in 1861.

The Union is not at risk.

The Union is not at risk.

I am not interested in debating that. You have your views and I have mine as I expressed them. Perhaps because I come from a much older culture I see history from a different perspective and how things change over time.

You don't know the U.S.

Partisan gerrymandering allowed to continue by Supreme Court - CNNPolitics

Hope you guys like severely gerrymandered states such as North Carolina and Maryland, which were the two states at issue here, because the SCOTUS yet again makes a 5-4 ruling that absolves the federal government of further corrosion of our electoral process.

I hope that California will respond to this by gerrymandering itself so hard that they will send a single-digit number of Republicans to the House starting in 2021. Time for the Democrats to stop playing nice with a party that is openly hostile to voting rights.

I have no problem with how a state I don't live in draws their electoral maps.

This is good news that at least for now there will not be yet another judicial coup against rightfully elected legislators.

Past is prologue.

Past shows that political entities fall.
No more free land for you to appease the poor masses of your economic system at the expense of native Americans.
No more you being the only big boy in the world economy.
More sophisticated gerrymandering creating more frequent results against the majority of voters
More urbanized societies
The list goes on...

Don't forget the "sophisticated gerrymandering" is executed by people who won enough elections to control the state government. In other words, there's substantial support.
In addition, the deck gets reshuffled by a new census every ten years.
And finally, the parties trade state control back and forth.
The Union isn't going anywhere.

Yes, keep thinking that 5 partisan elected judges can convince people that a republic which increasingly produces election results that put a minority of voters over the majority is legitimate
The demographics actually show that democrats will become more urbanized and together with more powerful technology, they will make it even easier to give an advantage to rural republicans.
The parties traded state control but Democrats themselves and the courts were also willing to reform practices that diluted votes in the South in favor of the Democrats.
I do not make predictions that the Union will fall or when it will fall. I am sure in 1981 none of use expected to see the Soviet Union's collapse within that decade. There are many variables involved,. but it is clear that if this path is followed there is a real danger for this republic.
It is also clear is that your assurance that the Union will not go anywhere is just a wish which cannot be based on solid reasoning.

SCOTUS justices are not elected.

You reiterate this inanity, over and over, because you neither understand nor care about the Constitution. You don't have a "position", you just like to troll.

He is right. The constitution very clearly states that the states are in control of their own election process.

This decision is the best news for spineless Democrats. They have no excuses for NOT gerrymandering their States to their heart's content. When the conservative Supreme Court sees that Democrats are doing it too, they'll change their tune.

No. The Democrats will of course gerrymander when they have the chance, as both parties have done routinely in the past. This is expected, and the SCOTUS will not intervene because gerrymandering is a feature, not a bug.
