He did not.

Mueller wanted to make an opening statement, then for the questioning to be closed.

If that were true, Trump would be egging Mueller on to testify. But, indeed, he doesn't want him to. I wonder why?

First off, there are many points worthy of clarification, that need to be brought to light.

Also, given that most people are not reading the report, dems strategy is that they will watch TV, and get the salient points which are in the report, directly from his mouth, which will have far more impact.


This will not backfire. It will be very bad for Trump. Trump does not want Mueller to testify.

I believe more that this is a pre-coordinated dog-and-pony show between Nadler/Schiff and Mueller to highlight only certain parts of the Mueller investigation. The "threat" to issue a subpoena to Mueller was signed by Nadler and Schiff only.

I believe Mueller knows already the questions he'll be asked by the dems. From Schiff's recent tweet: "... Russia attacked our democracy to help Trump win. Trump welcomed and used that help. As Mueller said, that should concern every American ...".

That's okay with me too. He knows that in public there will be assholes like Jim Jordan trying to make it totally politically slanted and try to discredit him only for the cameras since Jim Jordan is a show-boater.

Here's a question Mueller might be asked:


"If your report were finished next week as opposed to when you did finish it, would you have included Trump's current policy of defying any and all congressional subpoenas as potential obstruction of justice in your report?"

I wonder how Mueller would answer that question.


Moreover, the dem strategy, given that most people, including many in Congress ( including a number of republicans ) haven't read the report, they will watch TV, and getting it straight from the horses mouth will have much greater impact.

Mueller didn’t write the report, Weissman wrote most of it. Mueller is bound by DOJ rules to not do the same sin Comey did.

This is a disaster for the democrats. This keeps them in the “yesterday” mode, and keeps them from creating a coherent 2020 platform. The republicans are going to destroy him for ignoring the genesis of the original document-the dossier, and the lies to FISA.

Mueller is going to be cross examined by seventeen angry Republicans who are going to ask about the Steel dossier, the FISA court, and suggestions that Andrew Weissman was the democrats point man on the phony dossier even before the election.

The latest example of a useless exercise was Hope Hicks' testimony, in closed session and useless because the GOP criminal administration prevented her from testifying about anything that occured after the election which included all the times trump attempted to obstruct the investigation.

I'll believe it when I see:

1. Mueller even being allowed to show up in July. Plenty of time for the criminal GOP to stop it from happening or;

2. If he does show up what limits the trump and his complicit and criminal DoJ will place on his testimony.

I'm not holding my breath, nor should anyone based on recent history.

Mueller is a private citizen, was never on staff at the WH, so there is no "executive priviledge" they can excercise, here.

There is no way Trump can stop Mueller from testifying. He can ask him not to testify, but Mueller will ignore such a request by Trump, and if it has to be subpoenaed, Mueller WILL honor a subpoena, on that you can rely.
