It is also about catering to the intolerance and fears of xenophobes that make up such a large part of Trump's base.

Congress needs to step up and lead with some sort of moral guidance, but it is incapable.

That makes it even more inexcusable.
And at the point where the inmates are being denied even the essentials, adequate food, water, soap, toothbrushes, medical care, we're only talking about degrees of inhumanity and the lack of ovens and guards ordered to shoot at random.

Some are already calling for shooting them at random right now, even here on DP.

Oh no, let's split hairs and argue about whether we're morally right to practice two-thirds of the concentration camp blueprint because we haven't as yet engaged the final third.

I can't wait till the first Republican lawmaker suggests tattooing detained illegal aliens with a number on their arm.
