From The Hill:

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids delayed last week by President Trump reportedly might have been postponed due to a leak within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Two senior administration officials told BuzzFeed News that people in the administration believe that acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kevin McAleenan, or his staff, leaked details of the operation, which threatened it.

“Leaking the locations and details to stop the operation from happening not only harmed operational integrity, but it put the safety and well-being of his own officers in jeopardy,” one official told BuzzFeed. “The ICE mission is enforcing the nation’s laws and ensuring those who are unlawfully present in the country are removed if ordered by a judge; this will leave an un-erasable mark on his tenure.” Officials say DHS leaks led to postponement of ICE raids: BuzzFeed | TheHill

I can't imagine why senior Admin officials would talk to Buzzfeed about anything ever, but I do imagine that McAleenan's tenure will be cut short.

I'm not buying what they're trying to sell. I think it is far far more likely that there was no plan. Just like nearly everything else Trump has told us about:

Mexico paying for the wall, build the wall from sea to sea, great healthcare plan, knows guy who has plan to end violence in Chicago, trade wars are easy to win, bring coal mining jobs back to the USA, fix Israeli/Palestine problem, infrastructure plan, ...

Because imo Trump is too lazy to come up with a plan. Christ, if Trump touches it, it's almost certain to fail, just like his casinos, and all the other enterprises and flimflams he bankrupted before becoming POTUS. With a history like that, who da thunk his presidency would be more of the same, eh? Like this mass deportation.

From VOX ”President Donald Trump has postponed a massive ICE operation that would have targeted 2,000 families with members who have received deportation orders. The raids were set to begin Sunday, nearly a week after Trump tweeted that “ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States.”

Didn’t Trump give advance notice last week? I can’t find the exact Tweet....

Edit: Job security is not a hallmark of this bunch!

Trump Tweet

@realDonaldTrump

Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people.......

That is not entirely implausible.

When I heard about this, I thought, "Doesn't ICE do this everyday already?" So, this must be a political stunt.

And given the large number of people here illegally, millions and millions, there's no way a weekend round up could put a dent in those numbers. So, this must be a political stunt.

Also, given the large number of people here illegally, millions and millions, rounding a significant number of them would take a major budget commitment.
If we low ball the costs of deporting a single person to $1000 ftsoa it means it would take a billion just to deport just one of the millions of them.
[ Iirc, it's closer to $7000/deportation and around 11 million immigrants — iow a $77 Billion project]

^^That's what I always think about when politicos are hollering about illegal immigrants — show me the money.

If they ever actually get serious (instead of just pandering), they will budget the billions needed.
Until then, it's just a dog and pony show for those who want to believe.

It didn't seem right that the actual locations for the raids would have been given, a tip-off to the lawbreakers. A leak does seem like a more plausible explanation.

Despite the leaks, looks like Pelosi and Trump are again open to talks, hence the cancellations. I'm still trying to figure out why she would have wanted the sweeps to be cancelled as they were targeting only groups of illegal immigrants who have ignored their previous deportation orders. These people don't belong here.

The source of the leak was Trump's own big mouth. Welcome to the latest series of 'teasers' for this 'reality tv show' Presidency. "I may impose sanctions on (fill in the blank). Or maybe I won't." "I may deport millions of people beginning on Sunday. Or maybe I won't." "I may bomb Iran. Or I maybe I won't." Tune in next week and 'we'll see what happens'.

DHS boss McAleenan accused of opposing, leaking planned ICE raids

DHS boss McAleenan accused of opposing, leaking planned ICE raids | Fox News

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan is being accused of leaking plans last week for scheduled Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, after expressing fierce opposition and allegedly ordering top officials to “stand down” on the operation.

A source familiar with the matter told Fox News that when the operation was in its planning phase two weeks ago, McAleenan ordered ICE Acting Director Mark Morgan to call off the deportation operation that was expected to target 2,000 families in up to 10 cities across the country. President Trump, however, ordered that Morgan continue as planned -- until he abruptly announced Saturday he was delaying the raids to see if Congress could work out a solution to the "Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border."
Looks like a deep-stater got into the wrong position. His job is to follow orders, not fight them. Fire him immediately.

if he broke the law...put him in jail

I don't think you're up with the facts.

Re: DHS boss McAleenan accused of opposing, leaking planned ICE raids

If it's true, then this is why Trump cancelled the ICE raids. Word got out on how ICE was going to execute their plans.

Katharine Herridge is about as well connected as any reporter I can remember in my lifetime when it comes to national security issues. I would trust her sources over anyone.

Cannot find where and who accuses him of leaking plans.

He has been vehemently against dept plans.
