New documents revisit questions about Rep. Ilhan Omar's marriage history

And now we've got another black person who the right don't like, trying to discredit them.

If someone is black in the USA, it certainly seems as if there are a different set of rules, much more difficult rules, that they must follow. At least by a certain segment of the American population.

I can't help but think of the crisis created when the president used Dijon mustard, and wore a tan suit, whereas Trump gets a pass for bragging about Sexually Assaulting women, and fooling around with a pornstar while his wife was pregnant.

This seems like more of the same, by many of the same people.

Omar committed tax fraud. I don't see her under any unusually heavy scrutiny from the law.

Anyone who files a joint return, with someone they aren't married to, broke the law and if the IRS figures it out, will go after their asses...regardless of race.

can't have honest debate with unknowledgeable Canadians on US laws...what I call "know it all syndrome"

Except this time the documents bear out that Rep. Omar committed one of two crimes. Either the story she has given is a lie and she was a bigamist or she committed tax fraud by jointly filing with someone she claims was not her legal husband at the time. It looks like an immigration scam in either case.

If she did, then she certainly should be.

But with your posting history, I'm afraid this may be more a product of your imagination than anything else.

LOL, the sad part is that when it comes to American tax laws, or American history, I almost always know more that the Trump base.

Not surprising, given that Canada doesn't have a failed public education system like the USA.

Throw in some home schooling, and no wonder a significant number of Americans believe the earth is flat, and a wizard created it only 10,000 years old. :lamo

4 in 10 Americans Believe God Created Earth 10,000 Years Ago

Americans look up intellectually to a moron like Trump, and then call others "unknowledgeable". Dunning, meet Kruger :lamo

so after a quick investigation, I found that Omar is going to pay fine for a small amount (see below) that was not correctly reported.

Ilhan Omar fined for campaign finance violations

Freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar has been ordered to reimburse her campaign account about $3,500 and to pay a fine of $500 after an investigation found she illegally used campaign funds in 2016 and 2017, a report said Thursday.

Such things are quite common and if one tries to create an argument against Omar's credibility based on such information, he is showing his partisan bias when he tries to vilify Omar about this violation.

For comparison, here is Ted Cruz's issues with the FEC in the last elections which resulted in a fine of $35,000 as a result of the FEC violations in Ted's case

In the Matter of
Ted Cruz for Senate, and
Bradley S. Knippa, in his official capacity

...

Respondents violated 52 U.S.C. § 30104(b)(3)(E) and 11 C.F.R. § 104.3(d)(4) by
inaccurately reporting on Schedule C that Senator Cruz used his personal funds to make
$1,064,000 in loans to the Committee and omitting the required Schedule C-1, identifying
Goldman Sachs and Citibank as the underlying source of the loans.

VI. Respondents will take the following actions:
1. Respondents will pay a civil penalty to the Federal Election Commission
in the amount of Thirty-Five Thousand Dollars ($35,000), pursuant to 52 U.S.C.
§ 30109(a)(5)(A).

But of course, such stories are not highlighted in the conservative circles or talk shows because their existence does not fit with the objective of vilifying Omar...

There are fewer groups of people that will more easily trigger the Right than Muslims.

Indeed. Trump counts on it every day.

Based on his strategy, he clearly believes his base is largely composed of cowards.

With your posting history, nothing will convince you.

Manufactured outrage

That's teh mantra of the entire right, since they don't have any facts and real arguments, they have to spread lies and their idiot base just eats it up, no questions asked

I gather you'd like to see her tax returns. :2razz:

NO! I want to know who this guy was that she was previously married to - she sponsored his immigration and citizenship.

What is he doing, now? Is he a terrorist, or just some unwitting gay guy seeking refuge from an intolerant Islamic state???

The lawyer who said he would do her taxes and make that problem go away was an informant for the FBI.

Does anybody, here, understand why we are interested in her story???

I honestly don't know why you care, they are just process crimes.

Um, no, fraud isn't a process crime. :lamo

The FEC announced recently that FEC violations are felonies.

You folks want to put Trump in jail, that you're going to wind up screwing yourselves.

A president's business ties to foreign countries doesnt necessitate it? You have a very selective criteria.

We certainly wouldn't want to see Democrats in Congress's tax returns, would we?

An FBI informant hired out covertly as a tax accountant doing people's taxes should be extremely illegal.

It's a simple sting set-up to try and learn what has happened to the guy she divorced. She does not reveal what has happened to him - why not???

Why did she help somebody get citizenship whom she learned she could not remain married to???

Very strange, don't you think???

It is obvious that this is not always the case. In fact, I have already posted earlier an official document regarding Ted Cruz's CIVIL penalty which was in the order of $35,000 for FEC violations during his last campaign.

That isn't what the FEC chair said the other day.

Most probably you did not understand what he said. In any case, I showed that in the most recent elections the FEC was talking about civic penalties even in cases where the fines were in the order of $35,000. So, I doubt that we have now such a change where every FEC violation is a felony.
But if you have a link to share with us, please do so and we continue from there...
