New investigative documents released by a state agency have given fresh life to lingering questions about the marital history of Rep. Ilhan Omar and whether she once married a man — possibly her own brother — to skirt immigration laws.

snip

Omar’s reticence is consistent with near total silence she has maintained for three years amid questions raised through public records picked over by conservative opinion journalists intent on proving that she committed immigration fraud. Those attacks, she once tweeted, are the provenance of “fake journalists on bigoted blogs.”

 Oh my...Rep. Omar is attacking the free press! Fascist! She must be removed!

I gather you'd like to see her tax returns. :2razz:

Sure, but in this case there is a bonafide reason for the appropriate authority to view them, and make a determination..

A president's business ties to foreign countries doesnt necessitate it? You have a very selective criteria.

I was amused at this line in the StarTribune piece:
. . .The new documents also detail the Omar campaign’s efforts to keep the story of her marriage to Elmi out of the press, arguing that detailed coverage would legitimize the accusations and invade her privacy. . .

Imagine that. She doesn't want the press violating her privacy. But she sure doesn't mind violating the President's privacy. The hypocrisy is stunning. However, if she acted illegally that should not be given a pass, but otherwise, the time to vett her was during her campaign and now it should be irrelevant.

There's no law against that. That's the difference.

So you're totally cool with an Presidential candidate profanely lying to the American electorate about his business relationship with a hostile foreign state?

No, Hillary should have disclosed where those millions in Russian campaign donations came from. You're right.

She violated FEC and IRS regulations. She isn't above the law.

Feel free to say this after the FEC and IRS actually say it.

What you probably read was that a conservative group made a claim that she violated FEC and IRS regulations.

Not to mention that there are violations which are related to fraud and violations which are solved with paying some minor fee as a result of being careless.

Meanwhile, back here on earth........

so after a quick investigation, I found that Omar is going to pay fine for a small amount (see below) that was not correctly reported.

Ilhan Omar fined for campaign finance violations

Freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar has been ordered to reimburse her campaign account about $3,500 and to pay a fine of $500 after an investigation found she illegally used campaign funds in 2016 and 2017, a report said Thursday.

Such things are quite common and if one tries to create an argument against Omar's credibility based on such information, he is showing his partisan bias when he tries to vilify Omar about this violation.

For comparison, here is Ted Cruz's issues with the FEC in the last elections which resulted in a fine of $35,000 as a result of the FEC violations in Ted's case

Respondents violated 52 U.S.C. § 30104(b)(3)(E) and 11 C.F.R. § 104.3(d)(4) by
inaccurately reporting on Schedule C that Senator Cruz used his personal funds to make
$1,064,000 in loans to the Committee and omitting the required Schedule C-1, identifying
Goldman Sachs and Citibank as the underlying source of the loans.

VI. Respondents will take the following actions:
1. Respondents will pay a civil penalty to the Federal Election Commission
in the amount of Thirty-Five Thousand Dollars ($35,000), pursuant to 52 U.S.C.
§ 30109(a)(5)(A).

But of course, such stories are not highlighted in the conservative circles or talk shows because their existence does not fit with the objective of vilifying Omar...

Muslim woman married her brother to sneak into [and undermine of course] Trump's America. If true, it would be a right wing wet dream. Which likely means it's not.

It is fake news from the right as usual.

From the same source "Star Tribune"

Minn. board fines Rep. Omar, says she must reimburse campaign - StarTribune.com

The amount that the Minnesota Democrat must repay represents what the board determined is the total amount of campaign funds that Omar used in 2016 and 2017 for purposes not permitted by state law.

That includes a payment of $1,500 to a law firm that, her lawyer testified, was related to some corrections made to her personal tax returns that were discovered as part of an inquiry into her financial records by a “crisis committee.” That committee was set up to respond to never-proven allegations that Omar had married her own brother as part of an “immigration scheme,” in the words of the board’s report on the matter.

Typical birther sh**

Yeah, Obama was born in Kenya, we have proof, his brother provided a document from Kenya (which uses the British dating system (of day/month/year) which had Obama's birth date on it using the American dating system (of month/day/year).

Must be true then.

And now we've got another black person who the right don't like, trying to discredit them.

But this whole thing stinks. She got US citizenship in 2000, at the age of 18. She didn't need to marry anyone. The guy she married in 2009, she claims is a British citizen. He probably didn't need to marry her to be in the US, it's not that hard for Brits to get visas to the US.

And what evidence is there? Nothing. They'll try and fake evidence, no doubt, like they did with Obama. And probably do it badly too.

Then they'll complain about attacks on Trump, saying how bad Democrats are for attacking Trump with false allegations. Just to make them look totally partisan.
