AOC claims US is putting ‘concentration camps’ on border

True story. The concentration camps were, at the outset, designed for housing "undesireables" and "political enemies." The term "concentration camp" was specifically coined, as the camps were designed to "concentrate" people that belonged to "undesireable" groups. In that aspect, AOC is absolutely correct.

These camps existed prior to the Nazi take over. Once the Nazis took over, they used the camps for political opponents, to suppress dissention in Germany.

Dachau was initially opened in March of '33 and explicitly was to accomodate all Communists and Social democrats that could "endanger the state."

So, while AOC is invoking emotional agitprop, the similarities between the genesis of Nazi Concentration camps and the camps we currently place dehumanized "others" into are rather striking.

It will not get to Nazi levels because Trump is not a nazi.

But her commentary is part truth part agitprop with a grain of **** you to the POTUS.

What Trump is doing with these immigrants is honestly despicable and absurd. That said, she would probably have been better off if she'd called them internment camps, rather than going for 'concentration camps'.

Also, while it is a disturbing policy, I do have to note it isn't all that different than what Australia has been doing for years now with their refugees/migrants.... and folks like AOC didn't have all that much to say about those. (nor when Obama was doing similar stuff)

While I don't entirely agree with your post, particularly the agitprop accusation, your general point is correct. The only debatable point is when the migrant camps will pass or have passed the definition for being concentration camps.

If they're not there already, they're alarmingly close. And getting closer.

Concentration camp - a place where large numbers of people (such as prisoners of war, political prisoners, refugees, or the members of an ethnic or religious minority) are detained or confined under armed guard.

So what do AOC haters have their panties in a twist over, then?

AOC is appealing to emotion, no doubt. Everyone knows what the final iteration of "concentration camps" were. They do not, for the most part understand how they began or how the term was coined.

I have no faith in the assertion the Trump administration is endeavoring to mass exterminate people on the southern border.

I do however fully believe in the essence of the initial description of concentration camps - she is spot on.

What? army barracks . The same army barracks and the same processing centers that Obama used by the way. Kids are dying be cause they are arriving here sick from a 2000 miles journey exposed to the elements after we told them please do not come. The Border Patrol fishes kids out of the Rio Grande every day that would have drowned had they not have been rescued by the Border Patrol.

Who said anything about what our 2020 platform will be? We don't even know our nominee yet. But we do know that even the most mediocre of Democratic nominees will be infinitely more qualified than the manbaby who currently occupies the White House. :)
 
What a sad state of affairs when all that gets argued is what word is being used. Concentration Camps, spying, etc. Or we bring back archaic words to describe more nonsense. Who used the word trope before this year.

I do not believe that German concentration camps were set up with the "final solution" in mind. They were just one step further on the path to genocide.

I think where you and AOC disagree is what stage we are currently on.

Sure, quibble with the word itself while failing to argue whether migrants are being detained without trial--the very definition of concentration camps. :roll:

Just cause we haven't rolled out the gas chambers yet doesn't mean that they're not concentration camps. BTW, not all concentration camps were extermination camps.

So the Nazi concentration camps would have been okey dokey with you so long as Jews and their families had just been separated, rounded up and interred without being charged, without legal representation and without adequate medical attention. But the murders? That was a bridge too far for ol' Anthony60.

When I was in the Boy Scouts, I remember something like that. I got my Polar Bear patch for surviving at 10 below zero. It was hell, or as Trump would call it, a lush vacation spot. LOL.

The most disgusting part of this is, even if it could be irrefutably proven that the migrant camps were concentration camps, Anthony would perform Olympic-level mental gymnastics to defend them. Something about a necessity to jerbs and nashional suhkuritee.

Let's give credit where credit is due! That was FDR putting Americans in camps. Not "Japanese people". He rounded up AMERICANS. Very, very different from what Obama and Trump were doing.

Now, if they were Japanese, or Mexicans, or others illegally crossing the boarder, then sure, he could do that. Oh, wait. That's what we are doing now, putting people that illegally enter the country in there.
