Government watchdog: Trump aide Conway should be fired for political comments - Reuters

A U.S. government watchdog agency on Thursday recommended Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, be fired for repeatedly violating U.S. law with political comments while serving in the White House.

The White House immediately rejected the special counsel office’s ruling.

A statement from the Office of Special Counsel cited Conway’s comments in television interviews and social media posts as violations of the Hatch Act, a 1939 law prohibiting executive branch employees from engaging in some political activities. The president, vice president and certain other senior officials are exempted.

The OSC referred to disparaging comments Conway made about Democratic presidential candidates.

“Given that Ms. Conway is a repeat offender and has shown disregard for the law, OSC recommends that she be removed from federal service,” the statement said.

Conway is one of Trump’s most loyal aides and fiercest defenders and is leading White House efforts on reducing deaths by opioids. Trump likely would be loathe to have her leave the White House right when he is cranking up his re-election campaign.

White House deputy press secretary Steven Groves said the OSC action violated Conway’s constitutional rights to free speech and due process and was pushed by media pressure and liberal organizations.

Conway was also found to have violated ethics rules when she directed viewers to buy items from Ivanka Trump's clothing line in a 2017 interview. Yet another illustration of a corrupt, ethically morally bereft administration led by and put in place by a President who believes it's perfectly acceptable to accept offers of "dirt" from hostile foreign governments on his political opponents and who happily promoted the stolen fruits of that same state's spy agencies without a thought f ever notifying the FBI of these unlawful activities. This is anything but a law and order administration.

Well, this administration is/was filled with people who conducted insider trading on stocks their decisions effected; threw government contracts to people they knew personally; used government planes for private trips; bought lavish items for themselves with government money, etc. The president's family conducts private business with world leaders while occupying an official office in the White House. So, why not also add violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits using official offices for political and personal gain?

There is no doubt Conway broke the law, as we saw her on TV doing it. The only question is whether the guy who is tough on crime that he wanted the Central Park Five to be executed, even though they were innocent, will sanction Conway -- or is criminality ok, as long as it's someone he knows?

“Based on the numerous errors in the report and the flawed process under which it was issued, we ask that you withdraw and retract the report and continue the dialogue with this office that should have taken place and that could have avoided many of the errors in the current draft,” said a letter to the OSC from White House legal counsel Pat Cipollone.

Saying what one thinks no matter the rules or position or time or place, is the sign of a moron. I'd fire anyone immediately for such stupidity, and wonder how they got to adulthood without realizing it. In this case however, She knows what she's doing, and she does it becaause a lot of simple folk believe she's being honest, and those same folk don't care about ethics, good governance, decency, etc. What she's saying happens to be against ethics rules, because she serves the government of the United States, not you, or conservatives...everyone. If you had any clue about any of this, you'd also know that Kelly despises Trump as much as many of us. She just as aligned interests in seeing Conservatives succeed in politics, and was appointed for just such a reason. Try harder to be a decent human being, and a responsible citizen. Or just blab whatever comes to your mind like a child, if that's your thing.

Trump says he is going to ignore the recommendation and keep her on. And now we have it. The government of the United States of America is officially for sale to the highest bidder, or to whoever is in power.

Drain the swamp? Donald Trump IS the swamp. I have held off on impeachment, and was against impeachment.... Until today. Impeach the crook.

She won't be fired over this Hatch Act violation (or for the numerous other ones). Continued violations of the law are a feature of this administration, not a bug, and will be rewarded.

That's what happens in mobster administrations.

she urged consumers to buy fashion products marketed by Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter. Legal experts said Ms. Conway might have violated a federal ethics rule against endorsing products or promoting an associate’s financial interests.

The things you will accept from Trump and Co. that you would be howling at the moon about, if a Democratic president did the same.

Except for the fact that all of her regrettable actions and decisions are right there on video/audio file for everyone to see and hear. And she also continued with these regrettable actions and decisions after being warned that she was violating the law.

termination of employment recommendation was already made by the ethics official
now it's her immediate supervisor's decision whether to follow said recommendation

based on the white house statement i am guessing her worst outcome will be a nice year-end monetary bonus:
In its statement Thursday afternoon the White House attacked the OSC, calling its ruling on Conway “deeply flawed,” “unprecedented,” and “influenced by media pressure and liberal organizations.”
The White House also claimed the OSC’s call for Conway’s termination had “a chilling effect on free speech for all federal employees,” and “violate” Conway’s “rights to free speech and due process.”

even tho conway knew (she's a ****ing lawyer) before being sworn in as a public servant that she willingly relinquished that portion of her free speech subject to the Hatch Act, this is now being presented as an imposition upon conway's right to free speech

sets one hell of a precedent for federal employees
