I know that yet another "Trump lied" story is incredibly quaint by now, but it does beg two important questions:

1) How has our country managed to function while its head of state has had precisely zero credibility?
2) Could I lie to people infinity times and just...get away with it?"

Mexico never agreed to buy more U.S. farm products as part of a deal reached late Friday on border security and illegal immigration that averted the threat of U.S. tariffs, said three Mexican officials, contradicting a claim made by President Donald Trump.

Trump on Saturday told his 61 million Twitter followers in an all-caps message that Mexico had agreed to “immediately begin buying large quantities of agricultural product from our great patriot farmers.”

But the communique issued late Friday by the State Department -- the U.S.-Mexico Joint Declaration -- made no mention of agricultural trade as part of the agreement. Three Mexican officials said they were not aware of any side deal in the works.

The State Department didn’t respond to an inquiry made through its press department. The White House declined to comment or offer proof to back up Trump’s tweet. The Mexican foreign ministry’s press office declined to comment.

Prediction that I will deserve no credit for making: trump supporters will pretend to doubt the veracity of the story. Then, upon realizing that denying the article is futile after realizing later in the thread that they didn't read the totality of it, they'll move on to "so what?" or "ha ha tds."

The whole world has just settled into "run out the clock" mode on Trump. Placate the big dumb orange baby by shaking your keys and making vague promises and telling him what a big special president he is. Tell him you've got "a deal." He'll relay this deal about nothing to his supporters, and they eat it up too because they're too ****ing stupid and/or nihilistic to know or care about what actually happens.

And what will the world do if he wins a second term? I can see everybody holding out for four years; but eight?

Did Mexico agree to help control illegal immigration or not?

Trump has realized that there are millions out there just as ignorant as he is. It doesn't matter that Mexico never agreed to do that. Trump said they did, therefore, it's a huge win for Trumpism.

Not because of tariffs. That was also a lie.
Huh? Mexico only came to the table because of the tariffs. It looks to me like you're stirring up a bull**** storm by trying to conflate Trump's announcement of the deal on Friday with some other Tweet on Saturday. You're own link says the State Department release didn't mention this alleged agreement by Mexico to buy more ag products from us. Sounds like two separate issues. I'll leave you to your continuing sour grapes rants.

I hope he wins another 4 years. Even if I don't vote for him.

That will be 4 more years of not having liberals negotiating with the bat **** crazy mullahs about nuclear deals.

John Kerry sends his regards.

Did north korea comply with trump's demands/requests? Saying something doesn't mean it's gonna happen. Let's see how long those armed troops in mexico keep up their vigilance.

Trump is allowing the country that supported the 9/11 attacks to have nuclear weapons.

My expectation he will be lose the Republican primary. I have no idea who will run against him. That being said establishment republicans won't want Trump on the ticket in 2020 for fear of losing the senate, making it perhaps veto proof as was the case in 2009. That has been my case for over a year, alas no one (with any hope of winning)has stepped up yet.

Yes, that was a lie. After over 10,000 lies, why do you continue to be surprised that he lies?

North Korea is not part of Mexico, nor is Mexico a province of North Korea; what's your point? I made the point elsewhere that Mexico STILL HAS to follow through on this deal. Just like every other international agree since the beginning of time signing a document isn't the proof - follow through is.

It is the world that would have to deal with a bat ++++ crazy president

Did Mexico agree to help control illegal immigration or not?

Yes, long before the proposed tariffs because it's their problem too, duh. The tariffs were an empty threat and Mexico knew it. Everyone knew it because the GOP weren't going to stand for it either. Nobody had Trump's back on this.

Within Iran, like most places, there are moderate factions and extremist factions. Khamenei being a member of the fundamentalist right wing of Iran, warned the moderates not to do a deal with the Americans because they were not to be trusted. Congratulations, the American right wing with Trump as their vessel, have proven Kamenei correct in his prediction.

It was? How? There was no meeting scheduled until Trump announced the tariffs then Mexico jumped through hoops to meet before the deadline. They came and NEGOTITATED actions they would take to avoid the tariffs. Where's the lie?

John Kerry loves you.

Trump has empowered Khamenei and disempowered moderating forces in Iran, you do see that?

Doesn't explain why Mexico rushed to Washington. How exactly did Mexico "promise"? A binding international agreement? What actions had the actually taken? Sorry, no cigar.

It was unclear whether Mr. Trump believed that the agreement truly represented new and broader concessions, or whether the president understood the limits of the deal but accepted it as a face-saving way to escape from the political and economic consequences of imposing tariffs on Mexico, which he began threatening less than two weeks ago.

Having threatened Mexico with an escalating series of tariffs — starting at 5 percent and growing to 25 percent — the president faced enormous criticism from global leaders, business executives, Republican and Democratic lawmakers, and members of his own staff that he risked disrupting a critical marketplace.

After nine days of uncertainty, Mr. Trump backed down and accepted Mexico’s promises.

Tariffs had nothing to do with it.
