President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States and Mexico have signed an agreement to avoid tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on Monday.

Trump says the US and Mexico have reached a deal to avoid tariffs

Although putting tariffs on Mexico was a stupid idea, I applaud the Trump administration for getting a deal done (even though they started it). Clearly, the U.S has pull and can push around Mexico very easily. Mexico needs to get there act together.

The debate IMO is over. There is a crisis at the border. That is a fact. Congress has refused to address the issue and I guess Trump used the only tool in his toolbox to get something done.

Democrats need to stop avoiding the issue. Illegal immigration is a serious problem. It is not a manufactured crisis.

Good job Trump. Now smooth things over with Xi at the G20.

We'll see how this turns out. Right now, all we really have is Trump's word - and that's not worth a thing.

also, lmao. Democrats were never avoiding the issue of illegal immigration, but they disagree on how big of an issue it was (because it's a bigger issue now, thanks to Trump's rhetoric and actions), and how to deal with it. The current state of illegal immigration across our Southern border IS a manufactured crisis.

A little pressure goes a long way, shame, all this could have been done before.

Mexico Arrested Two Caravan Organizers Amid Pressure From The Trump Administration To Stop Immigrants

Mexican authorities have arrested two members of Pueblo Sin Fronteras, the organization behind last spring’s large Central American caravan that drew intense ire from the Trump administration, for allegedly transporting immigrants in exchange for money.

Irineo Mujica, the director of the organization, was arrested Wednesday in the Mexican state of Sonora. Cristóbal Sánchez, an organizer with the group, was arrested at his home by plainclothes officers on Wednesday as well.

In a statement, Mexican prosecutors said two Honduran immigrants in April and May told authorities that Mujica and Sánchez promised to bring them into Mexico illegally, take them to the northern border, and smuggle them into the United States in exchange for money.

Mujica is accused of transporting immigrants, including children, while Sánchez is accused of helping people enter Mexico without legal documentation.

The arrests come as the US intensifies pressure on Mexico to stop the surge of immigrants, many from Central America, from arriving at the southern border.

One of the things I heard about this on the radio today was they said the money to fund these caravans came from the USA, wonder who?

Mexico Arrested Two Caravan Organizers, members of Pueblo Sin Fronteras

Also I am sure this had an effect on negations:
Mexico intends to send 6,000 National Guard troops to its southern border to head off the threat of U.S. tariffs over its lax border policies.

Despite Mexico’s intent to beef up border security, the White House is still planning to enact a 5% tariff on about $350 billion worth of goods flowing from Mexico into the U.S. on June 10. Tariffs will increase by 5% each month.

Mexico is sending 6,000 troops to secure its border ahead of Trump's tariff deadline

NOTE: This article was written before the announced agreement.

It is not a manufactured crisis. Illegal immigrants are crossing the border illegally and many of them are criminals. The first thing those on the left need to do is to call them what they are: illegal immigrants. Many on the left want to start equating calling someone an illegal immigrant like to the n-word.

So then to cut to the chase ... Trump's way OR the Highway ... worked.
It's like playing high stakes poker.A good bluff can really reward.
Not like as in - The Cincinnati Kid - { 1965 } where hot shot player Steve McQueen
known as " The Kid " learns the hard way about being The best.By learned Poker
ace Lancey Howard { Edgar G. Robinson } as to what it takes.
As McQueen has to eat his title as The best. " You may be Good Kid but as long as
I'm around you're 2nd best."
Trump is showing these lazy, dopey democrats how it's done.

That will depend on what the deal actually sets a means of determining what Mexico is doing to reduce that migration, and how effective it is. If there's no means of quantifying their effort, this isn't going to mean much of anything on the immigration front. So far Mexico has prevented people in certain areas, which will mean people will now find other ways in and the cat & mouse game begins in earnest. So long as the issues which are driving migration remain intact, people will take their chances and find new opportunities.

Trump was right Again by saying from Europe that the Dems like that the Border
is getting seriously worse. The worse it gets the more they like it.
Democrats seem intent on playing this charade. That they know best.Because the
MSM is helping them make their case while defrocking Trump. This is indubitably a first
in our Country.Where a Major Political Party is actually working Against the protections
and safeguards built into making America what it was intended.

Illegal immigration across our border was going down, until Trump started threatening to get rid of aid for the countries these people come from, and started talking about shutting down the border. Then they all rushed here because they might not have been able to later.

Illegal immigration hasn't been some kind of massive issue that needed immediate attention.

The thingy is ... drastic circumstances require drastic tactics.Like in a key battle.
The ends result is what counts.NOT what it seems like. One does not get to be the

combinations.Obvioulsy Trump may talk simple but is not a simple tactician.
He didn't become a New York Real Estate magnate by luck. But by clever outmaneuvering.

I hope someone is thinking about the people in limbo. Who the heck should/would care who gets a notch in their belt? Lets do people for a minute. Lets find solutions. Lets stop the need, lets stop the incentives, lets stop the political grandstanding. Lets talk and get this done.
Having said that, I personally thank Mr. Trump for bringing this to a head. This pimple on our society has been festering for far too long. Lets pop this thing and prevent it from ever happening again.
Partisan bs is hurting real people. Lets do it.

NO ... Nice try.Actually lame try. It's due to what the Democrats have openly said numerous times about
No Border wall and there is No Emergency at our border. It's a " manufactured crisis ".
Right there is justification as to why Illegals feel as if they have gotten a Green Light.
Because of the Democrat Party.
One's gotta be really low I.Q. to not understand that simple fact.

That was my exact reaction as well.

I would disagree with this, however, in that I don't think Democrats think illegal immigration is an issue (or, rather, they don't want it to be an issue). They think instead that our failure to have a de-facto open border system is the issue.

However, the crises is hardly manufactured, unless you want to buy into some of the Trumpian conspiracy theories about how "Deep State International Lib Elites Are Bankrolling People To Flood The Border", etc.

Manufactured faux crisis avoided.

Stupid, stupid thing.

Our country cannot just take in the weak and poorest from C. and S. America. That's not how diversity works either. Imagine if the U.S took all their mentally ill and criminals, put them on a bus and dropped them off the Mexico border.

" *want* them abolished". Also, ICE isn't and never has been the only immigration authority. ICE was just established under W Bush and has been shown over and over again to be a group of sick, corrupt people abusing their power.

What specific new measures is Mexico going to implement as a result of this agreement? There was already a Remain In Mexico agreement between Mexico and the United States? What is American getting for this transactionalism?

Trump's economy is drawing illegals.

Yeah, oh goodie. Illegals just happened under tRUMP (isn't that the latest childish spelling.)

You are attempting to Rationalize this Border crisis.I suggest the movie - The Glass Wall - { 1953 }
and see how Immigration was treated in that era.It was taken extremely serious. So serious that just
a single Illegal not taking every step to have the proper documentation was virtually treated as if
Public Enemy # 1.By the New York Port authority and Immigration dept.
Hallfway thru the movie you start asking yerself, what on earth has happened in the U.S.
Illegal entry was once a huge deal.NOT TOLERATED.Not even an Inkling's worth.
The Desperate New democrat Party is what happened. They see Illegals as a new voting block.
A new edition to Sacred Cow status given to blacks willy-nilly.

The end result will be measured over time; we will need to see what Mexico does over the long haul to curb migration through their borders. Just because they did it now doesn't mean they will over the long haul. The bigger question with Mexico is whether they have the resources to curb the migration over plenty of jungle and mountain terrain. It's an issue for the US, so most likely an even bigger one for them. The bottom line is the conditions in those countries are the driving factor; while those remain the people there will continue to leave and take their chances.

As for Trump, he did get into real estate by luck; the luck of being born into a family whose patriarch had already built a solid footing in rental properties in the outer boroughs go NYC. To his credit, he did manage to get the Trump Organization into Manhattan real estate and made some shrewd deals for the properties he owns. I think his best contribution to the city was renovating Wollman Rink in Central Park. He was able to get it done under budget and if I remember correctly, gave some of the profits to charity.

True, but it's at least as good as any politician -- probably better than most.

Yes, they've absolutely avoided the issue since the Regan amnesty deal (and truly before). Now we not only have tens of millions of people in this country illegally, but also millions of children of those people. And they're all stuck in limbo. Not to mention illegal drugs, weapons, and gangs crossing the border. And of course the current flood of people making asylum claims that we can't handle.

now that Tweety has solved the problem, i wonder what fox state tv's caravan coverage team will do. maybe they will have a role switch to Biden or Hillary's emails or something.

What other immigration authorities are you thinking of?

ICE was 'created', but it was a consolidation of a number of other agencies under one umbrella because they did a poor job of communicating. It's likely the other agencies you are thinking of are a part of the ICE organization. And while there are certainly abuses (as you will find in any organization), for the most part they are very professional and care about doing a good job.

As you know only congress can fix the problem of illegal immigration. Clearly the issue is to strong for either side to even make an attempt at it.

Ironic that folks like to point to Fox as a partisan network (as it is). But fail to acknowledge that CNN and MSNBC have gone the same route in search of ratings. I find that hypocritical.
