IF this author actually found such transcripts, and such recordings exist...
How will this impact the good MLK did against the alleged actions, especially in light of the "Metoo" movement today? Will the left support renaming MLK monuments, parks, roads and the removal of statues?
FBI tapes show Martin Luther King Jr had 40 affairs and 'laughed' as friend raped parishioner | Daily Mail Online

Secret FBI tapes that accuse Martin Luther King Jr of having extramarital affairs with '40 to 45 women' and even claim he 'looked on and laughed' as a pastor friend raped a parishioner exist, an author has claimed.
The civil rights hero was also heard allegedly joking he was the founder of the 'International Association for the Advancement of P***y-Eaters' on an agency recording that was obtained by bugging his room, according to the sensational claims made by biographer David Garrow - a Pullitzer prize-winning author and biographer of MLK.

Tear down all his statues and rename the streets named after him.I am shocked and outraged.

Yep. Because that equates to literally enslaving an entire group of people.

SMH, this thread looks like it has already hit maximum stupid. But I'm willing to bet it will get pushed into overdrive.

If this is true it certainly puts a stain on his legacy. But how did the author obtain these tapes?

In the article in states:
The FBI surveillance tapes detailing his indiscretions are being held in a vault at the U.S. National Archives and are not due for release until 2027.
But David Garrow, a biographer of King who won a Pulitzer Prize for his 1987 book Bearing the Cross about the Baptist minister, has unearthed the FBI summaries of the various incidents.

So what does unearth them mean?

Am just waiting for the real dirt on Fred Rogers. Each day goes by I feel like I am a saint compared to the actions by some men.

The Daily Mail..

It will be interesting how much information will be made available in 2027, and at that point we'd have to take his actions into consideration. What we often find is people who accomplish great things are as flawed as the rest of us; the question is how badly they abuse the power they have.

What? The article claims that the author has the transcripts/seen them of tapes that will supposedly be released in 2027. If such exists... and you're already making excuses for rape.

I make ZERO claim as to accepting the authenticity of the article nor do I back the source, it was merely something out there that caught my eye and felt would be an interesting discussion.

If true, that is not something to be proud of at all. Terrible.

The same man dedicated his life to the nonviolent struggle for racial equality in the United States. That is something everyone should be grateful for.

What about serially raping underage slaves?

Does that qualify for monument removal?

If one looks only for flaws one will find flaws in anything or anyone. The true measure of a man is more than that.

We have all heard rumors before about Dr. King's personal life.

If those rumors prove to be true, most people would be willing to overlook them for the greater good.

That is to say, Dr. King was the most visible leader of a movement that has changed this nation.

Therefore, he is to be given a pass.

I wasn't accusing you of anything; The Daily Mail just always cracks me up. All they need is one UFO conspiracy story and they can join the National Enquirer. It would be unfortunate if there were any truth to that story of course, but people tend to handle power in less than ideal ways. Much of the information is based on unfounded rumors, so we'll have to wait until something concrete is revealed.

Are you really giving the daily mail the benefit of the doubt?

Is that like Carbon Credits? If you do enough "good" you are given a pass on rape?

The founding fathers did extraordinary good in trying to change how the world worked, that hasn't stopped people from ****ting on them for their faults.

We are all adults.

We know that some people are untouchable. Like it or not, that's life.

Dr. King is one of those people.

Today, Secretary Clinton is one of them. No matter what she may have done, no government is going to prosecute her. It would be considered downright cruel to humiliate her like that. It simply ain't going to happen.

So denigrating Dr. King's memory (such as removing his name and statues) ain't going to happen, either.

Somehow, once upon a time in history America decided to destroy its heroes, who unlike the rest of us had flaws. Who engineered this national guilt trip is beyond me.

I really don’t give a rip about MLK’s getting his wienie waxed 40 years ago. Let the man rest in peace, and let us all honor the positive side of his life’s ledger. .

Illiberal Rules For Trashing People & The Monuments Thereto:

1) Dirt farmer forced into fighting in a losing cause for secession - Remove/destroy every trace.

2) Candidate who celebrates/laughs about violent/deadly gang rapes - Vote for her & tear the country apart when she loses.

3) Serial raping genocidal slaveholders - No action necessary.

4) Genocidal generals committing mass atrocities in the name of the Union/Federal Government - No action necessary.

5) Possible indiscretions/disturbing conduct by civil rights leader - Pre-forgive/put it aside.

I know these rules may seem arbitrary and insane, but that's only because they are.

How exactly does a bit of magnetic tape "accuse" someone?

I'm not sure where you're going with this. I don't think you'll find many people saying that King was perfect, but I will always agree with his stand for civil rights.

Oh, now I see where you're going. How dare we honor him!

Ask yourself this, why are you upset about racial equality?

There aren't many monuments to the average Confederate soldier, but are you saying the Confederacy forced anyone to do anything? I'm shocked! To hear you guys talk about it, it was a libertarian paradise.

Those monuments largely didn't go up until blacks got all "uppity " and demanded civil rights. The statues were erected to remind them to stay in their place, so yes, I think we should take them down.

Why are you upset that those black folk demanded to be treated like human beings? Why do you want to glorify people who advocated enslaving an entire race?

Are these tapes recordings of what the FBI said about MLK? Or are these tapes recordings of doing and saying these things? Because if its recordings of what the FBI alleges happen then its completely meaningless. What the FBI claims to have happened 50 or 60 some odd years ago doesn't mean squat with out actual proof.

If its actual recordings of him having affairs and watching his friend raping someone and laughing about it then this could destroy his image as a civil rights icon. However I doubt any such recordings exist because if they did exist the racists in power at the time would have released those tapes to the media or did a huge press conference playing the tapes in order to destroy MLK's cause.

The link title is misleading seeing how it says FBI tapes show MLK having affair and laughed as friend raped parishioner. While the article title says "The MLK tapes: Secret FBI recordings accuse Martin Luther King Jr of watching and laughing as a pastor raped a woman, having 40 extramarital affairs - and they are under lock in a U.S. archive, claims author". Which leads me to believe the tapes are nothing more than the recordings of the FBi's claims.

That's nice, so if you stand for something "good", you can excuse rape, you support rape if the person is someone that does things you like. Got it, you are pro-rape.
