SAN FRANCISCO — Memorial Day Weekend is upon us, and that means burgers and hot dogs will be sizzling on grills across this great land.
Californians may soon be able to add another item to the menu: roadkill.

uh.....Seconds, anyone?
Why should anyone else care what someone chooses to do with the deer that they happen to run over with their car? I wouldn't eat it, but if someone doesn't want to waste it, why not let them get a permit to haul it back home and eat it?

I have eaten dozens of toad killed deer.

I am on a list with the county sheriff's department, they will call when my name comes up (there are hu dress on the list) to come and claim a deer that the driver does not want.

Was it properly and timely field dressed? Based on natural organic vegetable proteins, roundup free? Well, then, Okay!

Good luck finding any wild animal that is "roundup free"...

Where does a carcass go if it is not claimed? I am happier with someone eating it, but not me. :)

Most states where hunting is a big sport have charitable organizations on call willing to immediately respond, field-dress and remove appropriate road kill for their own feed-the-hungry programs. Works for me, and you can bet that those whose bellies are more often empty than full appreciate a decent meal.

Opening Soon!

Eagles, crows, turkey buzzards, coyotes, foxes, skunks, possums, among others.

You gotta be there first, nothing goes to waste...

Mangled skippy laying on the side of the road in warm temperatures with flies and bugs swarming all over him, just doesn't appeal to me.

No, thank you.

Alright a competitor for Roadkill Café where they say "You kill em, we grill em."

(ring..ring...click)

Road kill café; You kill it, we grill it. What can I do ya for?

:lamo

Yeah.. all jokes aside. This is pretty disgusting once you think about it.

Back in the early 80's a Albuquerque NM radio jock did a weekly show on Rudy's. Was pretty funny.

You heard it here first
toads kill.
Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

I guess it all depends on how fresh, how mangled up it is. Heck, we have people eating out of trashcans, we have people eating bugs in fancy restaurants. Why is this any different?
To each his own.

No, thank you.

i would assume that this is first kill not like 5 days later.
it would also depend on the damage to the animal.
if anything was ruptured or badly damanged like the liver or something else
then i might not be any good.

This would not be the roadkill you see left on the side of the road for a week, or the one that's a 100-ft red splotch mixed with bone fragments on the highway.

This would be the roadkill you don't see because it was picked up after happening and dressed/butchered properly (taking into account the damaged area that caused the death).

Makes perfect sense to not let it go to waste if possible.

Exactly, if more than a quarter is damaged it's not worth it.

Ive had several with just broken legs that had to be put down.

Often there is less damage to the meat than if it was shot with a high caliber round through a shoulder...
