Harriet Tubman $20 Bill Is Delayed Until Trump Leaves Office, Mnuchin Says

stop the race baiting...."It's clear TODAY, which party supports an end to racism in America. Democrats."

its wrong divisive and completely false. Remember Clarence Thomas a Black Conservative sits on the highest court in the land. I could not be more proud of his story and the job he does.

please stop. Thank You

You expect us to stop reality? You expect us to live in Trump's carefully constructed bubble? Not going to happen, we leave that to the people he loves. :lamo

Trump, based on his primary campaign strategy to energize his base, his go to strategy since he came down the elevator, is to make racist attacks on brown and black skinned people. Based on what he actually does, he clearly believes his base is largely composed of cowardly racists. If he didn't he would change his strategy.

So if you're going to tell anyone to stop, you better get hold of Trump first, because he's the one whose strategy is shouting to the world what he really thinks of his base. Trust me, it's not a pretty picture.

You're too kind. It's a sloppily constructed bubble held together with plywood, plastic sheeting and electrical tape. Only the wilfully ignorant fail to see how full of holes it really is.

Wow, another forum member who lacks basic English Comprehension skills, as well as knowledge about the racist Southern Strategy.

Try reading my post again, this time with a dictionary.

"Southern Strategy" Myth...for those deniers and those less educated.

Myth 1: “To be competitive in the South, Republicans started to pander to white racists in the 1960s.” In reality, Republicans were politically competitive in the South as early as 1928, when Rep. Herbert Hoover won forty-seven percent of the South’s popular vote in the presidential election. A similar situation occurred in 1955 when Dwight Eisenhower won several southern states after supporting desegregation in the Supreme Court decision of Brown vs. The Board of Education.

Myth 2: “Southern Democrats, angry with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, switched parties.” In reality, only 1 out of the 21 Democratic senators who opposed the Civil Rights Act became a Republican. The other 20 remained in the Democratic party or were replaced by other Democrats. On average, it took another 25 years before those remaining 20 seats went Republican.

Myth 3: “Since the implementation of the Southern Strategy [in the 1960s], the Republicans have dominated the South.” Richard Nixon, the supposed mastermind behind the Southern Strategy, actually lost the Deep South in the 1968 election while Democrat Jimmy Carter nearly swept the region eight years later in 1976. Democrat Bill Clinton won six southern states in 1992, including Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and Louisiana. It was not until 1994 that Republicans held the majority of southern congressional seats, 30 years after the Civil Rights Act.

Professor Swain quotes Kevin Williamson of the National Review: “If Southern Rednecks ditched the Democrats because of a Civil Rights law passed in 1964, it’s strange that they waited until the late 1980s and early 1990s to do so. They say things move slower in the South—but not that slow.”

Swain concludes that it’s the South itself that has changed. The region now holds the conservative views of pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-small government. “Southern whites are far more likely to vote for a black conservative like Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina than a white liberal. In short, history has moved on. Like other regions of the country, the South votes values, not skin color.”

Frankly, I think all coins and bills need a refresh. Lincoln penny since 1909. Jefferson nickel since 1938, Roosevelt dime since 1946, Washington Quarter since 1932, Kennedy Half dollar since 1964.

At least with the dollar (coin) we've had a few changes since the Eisenhower dollar was first minted in 1971.

The current obverse bill designs have been around a long time too. I think they changed the profile (but not the person) at least once on some of the larger denominations.

Who here honestly thought the Trump administration would simply be decent for once and fast-track greenbacks with a poc on the frontispiece?

:rofl

Why didn't Obama make it happen?

Of course she can't hold a candle to Harriet Tubman, but it would sure piss Trump off.

Trump will be a distant memory, Tubman would be rolling in her grave thinking that Oprah could be used to dishonor her selfless and heroic acts for nothing else but bitterness, pettiness and ugliness.

They need a complete and total design overhaul. And while you are it make them polymer, and vertical oriented. Maybe add a splash of colour too.

I am hearing... people are saying... you are not going to believe this... Trump is going to put Bill Cosby on the $100 bill... it's true... believe me.

Nothing wrong with advocates for women who contributed to our country to be honored on our bills and working to make that happen.

To me it's more politically motivated to push it back.

I am not sure if it is being prejudiced against women or against blacks, or is it both??

"Southern Strategy" Myth...

So now reality is myth to Trump supporters because someone can be found to deny reality.
It shows what happens when a country has a failed public education system, they're literally unable to tell fact from fiction.

No wonder Trump loves his base so much. "Look Ma! Cousin Ethel says Obama is a Kenyan Muslim, yuk yuk! I knowed our preacher was rite!!" :lamo

Some Republicans Still Think Obama Was Born in Kenya as Trump Resurrects Birther Conspiracy Theory
Perhaps unsurprisingly, respondents who voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election were especially convinced of Obama's African origins: Fully 57 percent said it was "definitely true" or "probably true" that the 44th president came from Kenya.

In as Winfrey being not anywhere near the courage and compassion and the balls Tubman had. Geesh, role model Oprah can't even keep her weight off without significant help. Sorry, but no, no comparison.

I don't care for Oprah, but what's the need to go after her weight for? Unless she was like seriously obese, I don't see how that factors into her being a good role model or not.

It isn't so much about her weight but her preaching to others about it, for how long now. I find that the comparison to Tubman is just not sitting well with me.

You're not defending history, you're whitewashing it. You don't want to teach people about all the horrible things that are in this country's past. You don't want people to know that many of the presidents we venerate were actually scumbags. No, you're not defending history, you're obscuring, so you can tell a fake, glamorized version.

For many, it's a lot harder to feel racially superior if you're confronted with the fact that your race stole and enslaved every time you open your wallet.

PragerU?

Oh god, you really believe that's a reputable source don't you? :lamo

Damn. This might be a bit advanced, but give it a try. Then you will understand why even grade 6 students know better than to use PragerU as a source.

Actually, she has been a very good role model for that. She experienced what many women do: dieting and failure. So now she worked at a healthier way to live: she eats healthy and maintains a healthy weight and has encouraged women to do the same and not focus on what other people believe, or that being thin is more important than your health or emotional well-being.

I don't think Trump has many Democrat supporters, but I could be wrong.

Ignorant statement. Richard Spencer and his lot, the proud boys, the klan and the slew of other white supremacist/separatist hate groups in the US lean right and vote GOP. (The ones that don't have felony records that is)

Most right wingers do deny Nixon's southern strategy. Doing so is the only way they can continue to perpetuate that the democratic party is the party of white supremacy and racism.

Not unless you think the Dems have a stronghold in the Deep South.

Yeah, but she is nothing compared to Tubman
