I don't know what to say, here. Trump clearly seems to be asking for it. It's getting kinda' hard not to oblige him.
It might be best to start the investigative hearings, and see where they go.
Pelosi’s not stupid. She knows full well that a impeachment proceeding this close to the election could well backfire. She undoubtedly believes the best chance to rid the country of Trump is in 2020.

It won't backfire. They'll have Trump out by next November and there will hardly even be a need for an election in 2020. Impeachment is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best things Democrats could do to help themselves. 99.7% of Americans HATE Trump and would vote for anybody other than him.
I suspect, in the end, the Democrats will indeed declare an investigation to impeach but will NOT vote formally to send the charges of impeachment to the Senate to avoid being being summarily acquitted by the Republican dominated Senate. They will say it is up to the American people to examine the charges and they are the jury.

What do you think would happen if the House impeached Trump? Outside of making a bunch of anti-Trumpers feel better, what good would come from it? I think it would be a replay of the impeachment of Bill Clinton back during the 1998/99 time frame. I also think like the impeachment of Bill Clinton backfired on the Republicans because most Americans didn't want him impeached, the same thing could happen to the democrats this time around.
Overall only 36% of all Americans want Trump impeached. That includes 60% of all democrats, 32% of independents and 12% of Republicans in favor of impeachment. I think if Pelosi went ahead with impeachment the possibility exists that it would be seen as a very partisan political vendetta. Revenge for losing an election.
Impeachment is a political process with all the pluses and minuses that political process brings to the table. To be successful, a good majority of Americans must want it. Not just Democrats or anti-Trumpers. Would you feel better if Trump was impeached, then found not guilty and not removed basically along a party line vote in the senate? I'm not sure even all Democratic senators would vote for removal. I can think of two, maybe three who probably wouldn't.
I can also think of a couple of Republicans who probably would vote for removal. Still it would be a wash, Trump found not guilty by a 53-47 margin give or take a vote or two. For impeachment to work, one party can't do it alone, a lot more than just 36% of all Americans must be in favor it. You don't have that now.
Why do you think Pelosi is resisting?

She is reading polls instead of doing her job in this aspect.
Impeachment is a dead end. The Senate would never convict him. If Democrats go down that road, they could lose again. Their road to victory should be the issues, but as we all know, Democrats are masters at pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory. LOL.
Why do you think Pelosi is resisting?
I think you are probably right.
It is for this reason I agree with you.
I encourage the House to move ahead with Impeachment of the President of the United States. They should do so immediately.
