US president says war would be 'end' of Iran as tensions rise - BBC NewsUS president says war would be 'end' of Iran as tensions rise

US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, suggesting it will be destroyed if a conflict breaks out between the two countries.

"If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran," he said in a tweet on Sunday. "Never threaten the United States again!"

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted in response that such "genocidal taunts won't 'end Iran'".

The US has deployed additional warships and planes to the Gulf in recent days.
But Mr Trump's tweet marks a shift in tone after recent attempts to downplay the possibility of military conflict.

I have intentionally chosen a foreign press article to quote for a couple of reasons and could have posted the link to multiple foreign news agencies such as Al Jazeera, but the BBC offers a sentiment that is echoed by nearly every US ally in Europe They're scared ****less over how unstable and how dangerous Trump is right now.

I said long ago that Trump wants to do Israel and Saudi Arabia the favor of annihilating Iran for them. God knows they've paid him enough $ to get the job done for them.

Trump is demonstrating he is both the mot offensive loudmouth and the biggest threat to world peace today. He must be removed ASAP.

There is plenty of blustering going on over there these days, Trump getting in on the action via Twitter does not shift all the blame for tensions onto him exclusively.

Of course the US President is an ideological lunatic but so are the leaders of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, etc. just to name a few. This is also not the first time some leader here or there said another nation was headed for an 'end.'

We need to distinguish between Twitter rhetoric and actions being taken by these nations, including our actions that are seemingly asking for yet another war in the region.

It's like watching a fat little kid playing with the Battleship game Santa brought him.

You see? You just pointed out what the problem is. "we need to distinguish, etc." These aggressive threats against Iran are something that's getting global attention because ultimately it affects everyone alive. How can we tell billions of others how they should parse Trump's Twitter warnings? Should we tweet to the world, "oh pay no attention to him, he's only blustering"? So, yes, as President of the United States, the blame sits squarely on his shoulders for publicly warning an entire country of total devastation.

Actually, if Iran attacked us, they'd be doing the world a favor. We'd take out their leadership, who are a menace to that entire region. Anyone that takes over would be much better. Now, I'm not sure how they would attack us. Are they going to send a fleet to our shores? Bombard us and land troops? I think the best they can muster would be to have one of their junky Russian planes launch a missile at one of our ships in the gulf, or shoot down a civilian airliner, that would be more to their speed.

You're confusing the differences between having a 'spine' and having some awareness of geopolitics and diplomacy. How many wars did NOT happen over the last century because the US used diplomacy instead of buffoonery and threats?

Balls do not replace brains, especially in diplomacy. Macho hotheads get lots of other people killed.

Don't worry. Next week Trump will tell the world that he and the Ayatollah Khamenei are in love.

Threatening someone over Twitter is now considered "having a spine"? :lamo Your comments are beyond pathetic in trying to support Trump.

Let's all recognize that Iran has no intention of attacking the U.S. You are buying into Bolton/Trump victimization, as a way of painting Iran a threat that really doesn't exist, in order to 'justify' attacking Iran -- something Bolton has wanted to do for over a decade.

This was all predicted. Trump cancelled the Iran Nuclear Agreement (because it had Obama's name on it) and now is agitated that Iran is starting up their program.

Whatever you say, invertebrate.

On the same subject, the UK warns Iran not to test the United States' resolve.

Britain says shares same assessment of Iran as the United States

GENEVA (Reuters) - Britain told Iran on Monday not to underestimate the resolve of the United States, warning that if American interests were attacked then the administration of President Donald Trump would retaliate.

“I would say to the Iranians: Do not underestimate the resolve on the U.S. side,” Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told reporters on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

Oh, we know about it. We've been kicking your asses for two years now.

Losing the house in a historic landslide election, that's what constitutes "kicking ass?"

Tired of winning yet?

lololol

Obama would quickly go on another apology tour. Nice to have a President that actually stands up for this country.

Politifact keeps debunking and debunking this myth, which was central to the Mitt Romney's campaign and has been incorporated into the GOP DNA.

Obama signed an agreement that kept Iran's nuclear program in check. Trump tore it up and now is facing the ramifications of doing so.

The Iran so called "deal" was garbage, that's why it was cancelled. Obama bent us over, as Iran laughed at him (and us) and boasted how they'll do what they want. So, no, it wasn't Obama's name, it was the deal. Remember all the Dems that called him a fool when he said he would do that? That was just universally stupid.

Iran may not be much of a threat to us, but they finance terrorism and do what they can to kill Americans. And, of course, they've promised to push Israel into the sea, so there's that. That would be virtually the same as attacking us, as they are our ally and there are many Americans there.
