Guatemalan toddler dies in US custody

[h=1]Guatemalan toddler dies in US custody, report says[/h]Guatemalan toddler dies in US custody, report says - CNN

A 2 1/2-year-old Guatemalan boy apprehended on the US-Mexico border died Tuesday night in El Paso, Texas, the Washington Post reported. The child had been in the hospital in US custody for several weeks after crossing into the US with his mother, the Post reported, citing Guatemala Consul Tekandi Paniagua and another source.

CNN has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and the Guatemalan consulate in Del Rio, Texas, but hasn't yet received a response.

The boy would be the fourth Guatemalan child since December to die after a border apprehension.

RAICES Texas, nonprofit immigration legal services group, tweeted.

"A 2 year old baby boy ‘apprehended' by armed security forces. He's now dead. No baby should be ‘apprehended’. Immigrants should NEVER be kept in detention centers. This continues until we start treating people fleeing asylum in a humane way."

Now I'll count down the minutes before the comments saying "it's his mother's fault, she put him at risk" or "If the mother didn't try to get in our country illegally her kid would still be alive".

Go on.... let it all out, justify this death.

Well......isn't this the preferred outcome from our brothers and sister on the right? Some say shoot them as they cross, meh....whatever works eh.

I'm not surprised one bit. An entire slew of justifications spilling out faster than vomit from a drunk

The kid was in the hospital...FOR WEEKS....before dying. Meanwhile, you're painting a picture of "Toddler dies while in detention facility". It's disgusting that you spin this kid's death to satisfy "Big bad evil US immigration Nazi death camps!" crapola.

We don't know what killed the kid (yet) in the end. It could've been malnutrition from ill preparedness during the journey here. It could've been something the toddler picked up from others during the journey. It could've been an infection from a scratch for all we know.

Yep the child had no choice in the matter. Our stupid laws entice parents to bring small kids with them on long and dangerous trip. These innocent kids are just pawns in a political struggle We need to change our laws

"... One woman caught while Fox News was touring the area said to Morris that it took her 15 days for her and her 3-year-old son to make the journey to America from Honduras.

“She says she heard on television ‘bring your child and you’ll get papers and you will get to walk’,” Morris told Kilmeade. “She just says she knows she… will get on a plane and get to New York.” ..."

he died of pneumonia. He was put into the hospital 3 days after being in detention.

The official cause of death was pneumonia, according to the Guatemalan embassy.
However, this is the fourth death of a small child in the last 6 months crossing the border, and all 4 were from Guatemala.

Something to think about ...

Why should we care about this OPEN border group and how they have politicized the death of a child for their own agenda?
Resources – RAICES How do you justify politicizing his death for your own anti-Trump agenda?

You probably think we should charge the president with this toddler boy's death?

RIP, little boy.

Imprisoning innocent children and their families whose only crime was to make a desperate trek to this country in search of safety and asylum is more than just stupid. It's immoral and it's un-American. This should not be, and is not who WE ARE! The way we are treating these poor people. And that's what they are. People! Is appalling! They're human beings just like you and I. After reading some of the absolutely shameful and callous comments that many people on the right here are making about that poor child's death it sadly seems necessary to have to remind you people that we are talking about human beings here. Very vulnerable human beings. We are suppose to be better than this! And if we the people have anything to say about it in 2020 WE WILL be better than this!

You nailed it! Didn't take them any time at all.

It is unreasonable to expect a country to allow immigrants or anyone to just come in without authorization. You can pretend this childs family didn't put him in this situation but they did. They choose to expose their child to a dangerous and illegal situation. Every government in the world controls who enters their country, and America should be no different. I'm sure there are more humane ways to deal with illegal immigrants than what our jackass in office does but the answer isn't blinding letting everyone in either. This child died by his parents choices. And if they caused their childs death with their negligent choices on US soil they should be charged. If it is determined that immigration officials caused his death they should be charged.

Children are usually processed through ORR no need for detention camps. People dont just make choices in a vacuum

It is who we are and it is who we have been. We can be better but saying we are better than this is fooling ourselves. Trump is just the unmasking of American society and its ruling class projected further inwards. That is how unchecked power works.

You do not have the authority to remind me that this little boy died.
Obviously, you missed the RIP.

Carry on with the nauseous politicization of his unfortunate death...

Whats the alternative?

So the US had this kid in a hospital trying to help him out and some people are trying to paint that as a bad thing

Sadly, they are doing just this.
Disgusting!

You don't need to make a desperate trek here if you come to this country legally. But I guess that's too much to ask of our condescending yet loudly compassionate left.

That's right! Apprehend the parents and let the child go!

As if by simply saying 'RIP' somehow makes up for the manner in which you people are otherwise dehumanizing these people on a near daily basis. I've said my piece and if I had any hope that my comments could somehow possibly conjure up some semblance of a conscience, I would continue. But previous experience here suggests to me that any such hope of that happening would likely be in vain.

You are dancing on the grave of a toddler . Shameful.

We need to change our laws to make bring a child on such a dangerous journey not and advantage to illegal immigration.

Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death of kids in 3rd world countries like Guatemala. What is there to justify? 3 weeks of hospitalization and care that wasn't successful? Care was better than anything he could of received in Guatemala.

Your wanting migrant children in your message to be denied medical care is worse than a drunk's vomit.

Humble Pi is demanding no migrant children be treated in American hospitals.

Apparently the OPer's message is demanding that law enforcement be banned from taking migrants to hospitals. However, by his messages possible is furious that there was no chance for child to spread the bacteria to Americans when hospitalized.

Stop exploiting the death of a little two year old boy to push your agendas. He had been in hospital receiving care for some time. Could your actions here be any more repulsive and disgusting? He was just two years old. A little boy. Not a pawn you can throw around in your partisan nonsense.

Show some damn humanity if you have any left. This sort of cruel and unnecessary bull**** pretty much defines DP these days and it needs to stop. How can anyone enjoy coming here and reading this type of garbage any more day in and day out?

And way down we go....

I love DP and hate seeing what is has become.

The article seems to imply that the child died from being in custody.

That'd seem blatantly dishonest.

I wonder what the boy's medical condition was when he illegally entered the US?
His medical condition may have been so compromised to the point that regardless of the care that he received it was going to happen anyway.

Pneumonia ...

Pneumonia takes awhile to develop and takes awhile to kill someone, even if that young. Sounds as if he was medically compromised before he even got to the US.

So the US had this kid in a hospital trying to help him out and some people are trying to paint that as a bad thing

Agreed.

I didn't choose the source, but it is clear that the story wasn't interested in that detail--that is something journalists used to do.

Is there nothing you wont politicize? Ill bet you heard this story of a little child dying at the boarder and immediately went " YES!!" and ran straight here to use that death to bash Trump and America. You should be ashamed of yourself for posting garbage like that, but youre not
