Re: Guatemalan toddler dies in US custody

What the report fails to disclose is why the kid(s) fell ill. To what were they exposed before coming here? Did they have adequate food, water, 1st Aid on their travels? Please do take into consideration that yes, it is the parents or guardians who bring them on a journey that is harsh for most adults.
Please do not pretend to have compassion while dangling shiny things in front of those poor people, fail to properly come to agree on a humane immigration policy and keep this insanity going, ready for election grandstanding.
Call your congress people and insist that this must stop.

    RIP innocent child.

I'm not surprised one bit. An entire slew of justifications spilling out faster than vomit from a drunk

Yep the child had no choice in the matter. Our stupid laws entice parents to bring small kids with them on long and dangerous trip. These innocent kids are just pawns in a political struggle We need to change our laws

Guatemalan toddler dies in US custody, report says - CNN

A 2 1/2-year-old Guatemalan boy apprehended on the US-Mexico border died Tuesday night in El Paso, Texas, the Washington Post reported. The child had been in the hospital in US custody for several weeks after crossing into the US with his mother, the Post reported, citing Guatemala Consul Tekandi Paniagua and another source.

CNN has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and the Guatemalan consulate in Del Rio, Texas, but hasn't yet received a response.

The boy would be the fourth Guatemalan child since December to die after a border apprehension.

"A 2 year old baby boy ‘apprehended' by armed security forces. He's now dead. No baby should be ‘apprehended’. Immigrants should NEVER be kept in detention centers. This continues until we start treating people fleeing asylum in a humane way."

Now I'll count down the minutes before the comments saying "it's his mother's fault, she put him at risk" or "If the mother didn't try to get in our country illegally her kid would still be alive".

Go on.... let it all out, justify this death.
Sorry.........but we have no idea what the entire story is and neither do you.

Okay: what the hell happened to that toddler coming over? Maybe it was something the mother didn't know her child had. Maybe she knew but didn't care enough to get it taken care of. Another illegal could have done something to that kid. There are some real sick people out there. Maybe the kid's body temperature was too hot and died from overexposure to the sun's rays. There are other, logical, explanations for this, rather than "WELL, THE BORDER PATROL WERE BEING A BUNCH OF RACIST BIGOTS, AND THEY KILLED THE CHILD CUZ HE WAS BROWN AND AN UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANT!" The reason why the doctors are not responding is simple: they don't want the media circus twisting what would be said. No matter these same doctors probably know and would say, it doesn't matter because there's an agenda attached to all this, and that's amnesty. With amnesty, comes voter registration. With voter registration, comes new number of Democrat voters. So the media will spin the explanation of the cause of death of this kid and say it was these border patrol agents' fault.

Besides, what's it to you Leftists anyway if a child dies? You enjoy seeing the death of babies, in and out of the womb, so I don't think your guys' "outrage" is legit. I think the only outrage, from you guys, is that it's one less future Democrat voter, instead of seeing that child as a human being.

The kid was in the hospital...FOR WEEKS....before dying. Meanwhile, you're painting a picture of "Toddler dies while in detention facility". It's disgusting that you spin this kid's death to satisfy "Big bad evil US immigration Nazi death camps!" crapola.

We don't know what killed the kid (yet) in the end. It could've been malnutrition from ill preparedness during the journey here. It could've been something the toddler picked up from others during the journey. It could've been an infection from a scratch for all we know.

The official cause of death was pneumonia, according to the Guatemalan embassy.
However, this is the fourth death of a small child in the last 6 months crossing the border, and all 4 were from Guatemala.

    Something to think about ...
