Maine Senate moves to award electoral votes to popular vote winner

You mean conservatives because it was the conservative assholes who were clinging to slavery and bigotry and were the founders of the KKK

Clearly you never did.

because the Democratic idiots in congress say things over and over....doesn't make them true ...next time think before exposing ignorance. enjoy your Sunday

have the last word. Please

They are no different than the GOP idiots who say things over and over.

...next time think before exposing ignorance.
Did not have to think at all about it, your ignorance was blatant and obvious to anyone.

What is humiliating about accepting the will of "We the people" ?

Yea I am sure the will of those people in those states will be going batwing crazy if they had to give their votes to trump, despite being overwhelmingly liberal. And no doubt this movement would die a quick death and never be spoken of again if that happened.

I would imagine fewer than 5% of all Americans ever read a party's platform. Our elections are basically beauty contests. The candidate with the most charisma usually wins unless you have two dullards going against each other. Obama had charisma, McCain and Romney didn't. Obama won. G.W. Bush didn't have that much charisma, but he was down homey against two statues, Gore and Kerry. Bush did have a bit more than those two and won.

Bill Clinton had charisma out the ears and easily defeated G.H.W. Bush and Dole who had none. Reagan had Charisma, Carter and Mondale, not much, Reagan won. Neither Dukakis and G.H.W. Bush had charisma, two dullards, but Bush had the advantage of being VP and standing out as Reagan's shadow. Neither Carter nor Ford had charisma, but Jimmy like G.W. was more down homey, Jimmy won.

What you say is certainly a factor but in most elections one of the candidates will commit some kind of political blunder that cost big time as well. Ford wasn't charismatic but he was suffering the after effects of Watergate. Carter lost the next one because of his harping on the economy when he beat Ford and then it got worse under him. Reagan used his "misery index" against him. GHW Bush made his "read my lips, no new taxes" promise and then went along with a promise from Congress to cut spending if he agreed to raise taxes. McCain was not a good candidate and Romney had a decent shot at winning but got blindsided in one of the debates by Candy Crowley. He failed to seize the moment when OBama said, Russia wants its foriegn policy back. Trump just a better candidate than a horrible Hillary who didn't campaign well and call half of america "deplorables".

I think the charisma comes more into play with independents than with the party faithful. History shows that those who identify with the two major parties vote for their candidate roughly 90% of the time, give or take. Democrats 89% for Clinton, 92% for Obama, 90% for Obama, 2008, 88% for Kerry, 87% for Gore. Republicans 88% for Trump, 93% for Romney, 90% for McCain, 93% for Bush and 91% for Bush in 2000. I stopped there as in 1992 and 1996 Perot took his share from the two major party candidates which would lower the average a bit.

Yes, there are always other reasons besides charisma as you pointed out. But it never hurts to be the most charismatic candidate. Especially among independents.

Does anyone on the left care that this is an attempt to circumvent the Constitution?

The left is just reacting to the "sure thing" they had with Hillary that she managed to loose. The idea of the electoral college is to make sure that all states are represented at the ballot box and not for the largest states to totally take control of the election.
When you cannot win according to the rules, change the rules.

Yes.

It's illiberals who seem to be in constant attack mode on that document. :(

The left despises Hillary and her Bots, and vice versa - it was liberals/Democrats who longed for her reptilian embrace.

But good comments otherwise. :)

They would like to change the Constitution on a daily basis, to benefit them. They have the big States? Then they want the big States to control the election. If they had the small States, they'd want it the other way around. Illegals vote Democrat? Let them all in. If they started to vote Republican, we'd have the biggest wall you ever saw. They don't want to play by the rules, they effectively want no rules, but only for them. And no rights for us.

Your whining aside, no one is circumventing anything.

So, you think that States effectively trying to invalidate the EC, and trying to have the President elected by a popular vote is not circumventing that process? Thanks for that opinion.

By that logic the EC has already been invalidated by its evolution away from an independent deliberative body toward a partisan rubber stamp of state level popular votes. Except it doesn’t actually matter that how the EC functions and is used has changed substantially over time. Because the Constitution leaves it to the state legislatures to make that determination.

I'd have to disagree. We are talking about changing to a popular vote, the exact thing they didn't want, without amending the Constitution.

Putin-Trump Rowers have no regard for the Constitution.

They've taken a wrecking ball to it from day one.

Day One was when Trump took the oath of office then wiped his ass with it -- in a same day turnaround. Putin-Trump Fanboyz have been providing Trump with daily copies of it on a roll since. No one who supports Putin-Trump can speak for the Constitution. No one. None of 'em have any right to cite the Constitution in anything they do or attempt to do.

I don't know what this even means. Looks like you misspelled something.

Of course, you would need to back this up. And explain who you are even talking about, Obama and his crew comes to mind.

Please put this in adult terms if you mean to debate.

Your post is all rightwing politics.

No problem as I'm used to it.

So carry on by all means. Just don't expect too much respect from moi.

So... You are not going to back up what you said, you basically have no response, and the acting like an adult stuff is completely beyond your capabilities. And, since you called my post "right wing politics", (LOL! How?) looks like it was a bit over your head. Sorry for that.

Well, thanks for letting me know! Feel free to try though.

You have become what the United States once fought against successfully. First in the Civil War then in WW II. So I'll not be tinkering with you over your rightwing words. I'm under no obligation to reply to your armband politics. So you're free to scream on. Because it becomes harder and harder for me not to advocate a coup between now and November next year, the sooner the better. Whether the good guys win or lose it's the only way to get Trump out.

Now, there you go. At least you are expressing that you leftists want to overthrow the government. I just want the Constitution enforced, vigorously. God only knows what form of tyranny that the left would impose if they were able to successfully execute that coup you are talking about. No doubt, it would be pretty bad. Think old East Germany, that bad.

Get a grip.
The above is anti-American claptrap.

I'm not thinking old East Germany, you are. Conversely, I am thinking about the Constitution while you are not and haven't ever though of it except to destroy it.

You're all about rightwing armband politics and I haven't any time for that thx anyway. I reiterate you've become what we once fought against, first in the Civil War then in WW II. It is for certain Trump will not exit the presidency without a push and a shove and a swift kick. This is true irrespective of which year we're talking about. And you guys will be in the trenches with him. Nothing about it will be pretty.

You can't reverse the tables which is the central tactic on the armband right during the present time and going into the campaign. You are outside of your base here which means nobody believes you.
