Sometimes they ride buses, sometimes they work in senior living centers, sometimes they are home health care aides, sometimes they are even related to their victims.

One thing is for sure, it is not a crime exclusive to one single race, or culture. Elder abuse is universal.

As you’ve probably noticed, bashing straight white men, especially of the conservative kind, is very fashionable these days.

You seemingly can’t escape it — you switch on cable TV, or "The View", read The Washington Post or The New York Times, and see liberal pundits verbally attack white men for this or that.

It’s become often enough that it is seemingly now normal to just casually attack a broad group of the country’s citizens.

And sometimes race is inserted gratuitously even when it isn’t an issue, like during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings: the Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee were attacked as old white men.

We're all Americans and I think separating people by race should be shunned in a huge way.

There are posts in this thread from "both sides" that utterly disgust me. In fact, I'd be hard-pressed to find a post that didn't take this tragic, violent act and try to make political points out of it. My hope is that everyone who posted here will re-read their posts while sober, and realize what all of you are doing to each other, and this country. Shame on you all.

I'm not ashamed of my posts. I think I was the first one to criticize the OP for making light of a man's tragic death. I never mentioned politics or even racism, even though the vile OP went there. I was quite frankly appalled at the posts in this thread making jokes like "ban buses" and horrific comments like that. The only other comment I made was to some poster who claimed the MSM won't pick this story up. I pointed out to him that they did, including the OP. They should pick it up. This kind of rage is dangerous for all of us. That could have been one of my kids or my elderly aunt on that bus.

Tragic story. This thread really highlights why I oppose "hate crime" legislation wholesale. What constitutes a hate crime is vague, whether the laws apply to any individual case is largely subjective, and they needlessly broaden prosecutorial reach. In this case, you have a perpetrator, a victim, and a clear criminal act. That's enough for justice. No need to make any involved party the avatar of their race.
