White House Reviews Military Plans Against Iran, in Echoes of Iraq War

If you believe that this 'distraction' is anything at all like the "little rocket man" distractions Trump created using N. Korea as the target, you are very sadly mistaken.

We'll see, but I don't think I'm wrong. Regardless, as Trump has proven in the past, his loyal followers will never leave him (no matter what he does) and he will not listen to any advisors. So if you are correct, there isn't anything anyone could do to reverse this course so it doesn't do any good to get worked up about it.

I'll wait to see where Putin goes with this. Then we'll know what Donnie's next move will be.

Lotta “wait and see” going on here, perhaps that’s what got us here in the first place. Grow up.

we must have a diversion ready should Mueller set a date to testify before the congress

Luckily for Trump's family (I'm sure the entire clan has bone-spurs) it will be somebody else's children dying so he can distract from the Mueller report.

I wonder how many of the base are willing to sacrifice their children on that alter?

Are they, really? Where and when...?

Come come. We know Trump doesn't like to brag about his meetings with world leaders. We never find about them until weeks or months have passed.

White House Reviews Military Plans Against Iran, in Echoes of Iraq War

WASHINGTON — At a meeting of President Trump’s top national security aides last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said.

The revisions were ordered by hard-liners led by John R. Bolton, Mr. Trump’s national security adviser. They do not call for a land invasion of Iran, which would require vastly more troops, officials said.

The development reflects the influence of Mr. Bolton, one of the administration’s most virulent Iran hawks, whose push for confrontation with Tehran was ignored more than a decade ago by President George W. Bush.

Is this okay with Trump supporters? Is it okay that John Bolton wants to send 120,000 troops into the region nearby to Iran which of course would be Iraq or Turkey? Do any of you remember how the Iraq war started? It began with the deployment of exactly 120,000 U.S. military, that's how.

John Bolton has historically been hawkish towards Iran. The simple fact is that he wants to wipe them off the map. Is this okay with all of you since Iran had been compliant with the Iran Nuclear Treaty and every other country that signed that treaty has been satisfied that Iran has been compliant? Is it okay that the US has no allies in this possible war with Iran other than Israel and Saudi Arabia? The US has no European allies.

Look at the big picture, who has more to gain and very little to lose here other than a few thousand U.S. military, ask yourself that question. This action by John Bolton is entirely unjustified and unwarranted. It's John Bolton that's been stirring up the pot and creating an enemy out of Iran that just doesn't have to be. There's no diplomacy being used in this administration, only strong-arming and bullying.

Take a close look at the two ships that the Saudis say were damaged by Iran. LOOK AT THEM. The damage is below the waterline. It looks as though those ships backed up into something and does not physically look like damage done by another ship ramming them. I believe the Saudis did it themselves to drum up something against Iran. I don't believe it for a minute. The Saudis and the US with Bolton acting as the instrument of propaganda are whipping up anti-Iran sentiment for a reason, they both want Iran out of the picture.

Study this photo. The damage shows steel bent upwards from the water line. I am not a forensic expert but anyone can clearly see this damage was not caused by being rammed from another ship. And no video or photo of the moment the event supposedly happened. That's almost impossible. It's all bull****.

Compare/contrast with photos of the USS Cole bombing.

Is it no big deal to you that John Boltan has always wanted to overthrow Iran any way possible including using nukes against them? Is it no big deal that the US has no allies that support this aggression against Iran? Is it no big deal to you that both Saudi Arabia and Israel want the threat of Iran completely irradiated from the Middle East? Is it no big deal to you that a county such as Saudi Arabia might have intentionally damaged four of their oil tankers in order to suggest that it was Iran that did that and to get people's opinions solidly against Iran?

Bolton wants to nuke Iran?

I suspect that the primary reason there's war-with-Iran talk coming out of the WH is because wars increase a sitting POTUS' odds of getting re-elected, in large part by way of ensuring something patriotic is always in the news and of which the Admin can 100% control the messaging. Right now, Trump needs all the "odds," so to speak, he can get.

This mess strikes me as something driven by political calculus, not by exigent need to fight a war.

It's not something he hasn't thought of before.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

In order to get elected, @BarackObama will start a war with Iran.

Iran has been kicking US in the nuts since forever.

Iran has been kicking US in the nuts since forever.

I guess forever started in the mid-1950s, when we actively helped to turn them into a basket case nation and (ultimately) sent them running into the arms of religious extremists.

You don't think they still hold a grudge over that, do you?

We saved them from the commies, after all!

Bolton wants to nuke Iran?

No, that would be too quick. He wants a long, dragged out and inconclusive war in Iran. People make money on wars, after all, and it does distract from domestic problems.

I'll wait to see where Putin goes with this. Then we'll know what Donnie's next move will be.

Russia is an ally of Iran. I guess the OP sides with Putin here.

It's not something he hasn't thought of before.

Well, there's a fair chance that if he derisively posited "O" would use the tactic, it's a tactic he'd use.

I wouldn't make much of this right now, but the rhetoric has been warming up between the US and Iran so we'll see what it will actually means in terms of action. I think both sides are smart enough to know that a war between both nations isn't going to be a good thing for either. There's no guaranteeing what government forms even if the US manages to oust the current one. Saudi Arabia is the one to keep an eye on because they could very well fabricate an incident to further their anti-Iran interests in the region.

The military and white house review military action plans all the time. You do realize that there are military action plans for all our enemies and for most of our allies as well don't you? This is just a distraction.

Exactly. To quote George Carlin "If Easter Island gives us some crap tomorrow, we have a plan in a computer that tells us exactly how to thoroughly bomb the **** out of Easter Island."

Yep! I'm all for being prepared.

So where are the high level talks between the US and Iran taking place? You know, the thing that developed Nations do to in order to avoid War?

Iran isn't a developed nation.
