[h=1]Judge expedites Trump lawsuit to block House subpoena of his accountant[/h]Judge expedites Trump lawsuit to block House subpoena of his accountant

A federal judge has expedited President Trump’s lawsuit against the House Oversight and Reform Committee over its subpoena of Trump’s accountants for his financial information.

The decision to expedite the case could bode well for House Democrats as they undertake other efforts to compel the president to turn over financial records and documents related to his business dealings, and poorly for any administration attempts to stall investigations past the 2020 election.

Trump sued in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to block the subpoena. On Thursday, Judge Amit Mehta expedited the suit, telling Congress and the president, who is represented in the case by his personal attorneys rather than White House counsel, that he has enough information from both sides to rule on the case.

This Federal judge will decide the full case, not just whether to temporarily block the subpoena. I believe there will be a lot of expedited hearings consider the gravity of this situation. Judges understand that this is all high stakes stuff and we shouldn't be surprised if more of these obstructionist tactics will hold up in court or not.

Best news of the day.

Theoretically, this should be bad for Trump, since his goal is less to win court cases and more to stall them out til the universe experiences its heat death.

Activist "so-called" judge!

Exactly.

Jill Winebanks on MSNBC just said that during the Watergate hearings, a judge expedited the case which involved turning over the tapes to Congress. She said that Judges are very aware that a constitutional crisis is in progress and they will expedite for that reason. There's a lot of cases in progress right now and hopefully other Judges will feel compelled by their commitment to the rule of law to proceed expeditiously.

Day by day, as things are heating up for Trump, his behavior gets more erratic. Iran for example. I'm convinced it's all just created as a distraction. The details of the claims of Iran's offenses are very vague, actually they're non-existent to the public at this point. Then the attack on John Kerry, and Trump wants him prosecuted. Trump is following the 'how to become a dictator' rule book to a T.

Break the law, lie about breaking the law, create diversions, persecute your enemies and treat the Constitution with utter contempt.

What "gravity of the situation"? This is a blatant political attack and infringement of Trump's rights.

bull ....., this is how the law works

It's not a very bright move to tell the courts ahead of time you're fighting subpoenas simply on principle, and making it clear you're using the court to delay.

That's just what I said a few weeks ago. If you're publicly announcing that you're blocking all subpoenas as a wholesale tactic rather than on the merits of the individual subpoenas, then your legal argument, such as it is, is that Congressional oversight as a whole is illegitimate. What kind of judge, even a Trump appointee would be on board with that argument?

Narrator: "Unbeknownst to Cardinal, there were several Trump-appointed judges who were very much on board with that argument."

No, it's not. Authorities aren't allow to go nosing around your affairs without probable cause and a warrant. This is a gross misuse of authority and a violation of constitutional rights.

That's a legal issue and since I doubt you're a Judicial lawyer, you really should leave those decisions up to a Federal Judge who has been to law school. Arm-chair lawyering isn't a smart thing to do.

In other words you have no logical answer. I understand the only thing liberal and logic have in common is that both start with an 'l'.

This is good to hear. In the snippets of news I've heard over the last few days, people were concerned that these lawsuits would drag out until well into the 2020 election.

since the congress has 0 need for his private business records the judge will have no choice but to uphold privacy laws.
there is the reason that the constitution protects from this kind of blatant government over-reach.

Yep which is why a judge will have no choice but to throw it up and rule in favor of
the constitution. that is if he is doing his job.

Are you serious? The man has emoluments issues and there are serious, there credible allegations that he derives much of his income from Russian and Saudi sources, and Cohen testified before Congress that Trump committed bank fraud by falsifying loan documents. Sorry, but to characterize that as "Zero interest" is somewhere between ignorant and disingenuous.

There's evidence that financial crimes were committed, specifically campaign finance law violations. They have every right to see those tax returns. End of story.

If laws have been broken, he'll rule that way. If there's no evidence of any wrongdoing then he'll uphold Trump's objection to the release of his financials. That's the easiest way to explain it.

"Emoluments issues"? Because people stay at his hotels? You guys are getting more and more desperate.

Those returns and much, much more.

I suspect they will be requesting information from SDNY and all the other DAs that Mueller turned cases over to...

Because he stays at his hotels and charges us for it, for starters.

His membership fees at his golf clubs tripled when he became president and he is using that fee to sell access to lobbyists.

The Saudis have paid an obvious bribe of a billion dollars to bail out 666...

Plus, there's the new law that Governor Cuomo will sign into law which will allow any member of Congress, with good cause, to obtain Trump's NY State and city income tax returns. That alone is going to be a headache for him. He can't block it either and neither can Bill Barr OR the Supreme Court. NY State law prevails over federal.

And the cultists are dancing in the streets celebrating a win when they are behind, and it's not even half time...:2razz:
