White House moves to block official from congressional testimony despite subpoena

White House moves to block official from congressional testimony despite subpoena | TheHill

The White House has instructed a former official accused of mishandling security clearances not to appear at his planned congressional testimony on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Carl Kline, who now works for the Defense Department, faces a subpoena and planned to testify before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on April 23 as part of its ongoing probe into the Trump administration's security clearance process.

The move follows President Trump and his private business moving to block House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings's (D-Md.) separate subpoena requesting financial records from the president's accountant. Trump filed a lawsuit in federal court on Tuesday.


CNN reported that the White House is accusing Democrats of trying to gain confidential information that should be off limits.

Carl Kline served for 2 years as the White House personnel security director. He is the whistle-blower that told Congress there were at least 25 security clearances approved he was told to approve that shouldn't have been approved because there were problems. Elijah Cummings has subpoenaed Carl Kline to testify before the House Oversight Committee. Carl Kline was supposed to appear this morning but he's not going to because the White House has told him not to.

So there you go, people are being TOLD by Trump not to cooperate with Congress. This is another instance of obstruction of justice and yes all you Trump supporters, it's right out there in plain view for everyone to see. Carl Kline works for the Pentagon now and he's listening to his boss which is Donald Trump, and he will be in contempt of Congress.

This is only one reason why moving to impeachment proceeding now would allow the truth to come out. By creating articles of impeachment it would enable Congress to compel people like Carl Kline to testify and Trump would not be able to interfere. There has never been an 'in your face' blatant abuse of power before in U.S. history.

It's not that the Republican party, or the Conservatives on here don't see the corruption and abuse of power. It's simply they don't care about it.

No, actually, the die-hard Trumpanzees across the country do NOT believe anything negative about Trump. They quickly latch on to whatever alt-right pundit or "news" source comes up with an "alternative fact" to support Trump's false narrative. It makes me both angry and sad.

I asked this question of a co-worker today. If the Mueller report was not reported on endlessly for 2 years, and the president was Hillary, would a republican house and a republican senate impeach her for obstruction?

I think so.

The dems are spineless, par for the course, really. They have a duty to hold the potus accountable. Do I think he should be impeached? I'm not 100%; but if the republicans were in control and this were a democrat president, you know damn well they'd be impeaching.

The House Dems don't have the balls to start impeachment...and for good reason.

The moment they do that, Trump declassifies and releases to the public a ****-load of Obama administration documents and the Dems are blown out of the water.

Congress had two years to find a crime to ha g Trump with. During that two years if he so much as **** crooked they called it “obstruction”. Now, after their own report cleared him, they want to stop him from defending himself.

It’s time for the executive to do his own investigation and end the abuses in congress. Trump needs to simply tell every committee to **** off until he’s done with his investigation or they’ll be held to account for obstructing his ability to do his job that he was lawfully elected to do.

All the crap Hillary Clinton has been accused of, and Democrats are not "diabolical?"

What do you think the Wall Strategy was for? To purge the "compassionate conservatives" of the Bush years, and aligned the bulk of the conservative base behind the Fox News-Trump agenda of fear and anger that talk radio and opinion hosts had been filling them with for years.

The troubling factor was just how small the proportion of moderate Republicans have become. The Never Trumpets are a pretty insignificant group, most people were polarized into their place.
