James W. McCord Jr., Who Led the Watergate Break-In, Is Dead at 93 - The New York Times

James W. McCord Jr., a security expert who led a band of burglars into the shambles of the Watergate scandal and was the first to expose the White House crimes and cover-ups that precipitated the downfall of the Nixon administration in 1974, died on June 15, 2017, at his home in Douglassville, Pa. He was 93.

The death went unreported by local and national news organizations at the time. It was apparently first reported by the London-based writer and filmmaker Shane O’Sullivan in his book “Dirty Tricks: Nixon, Watergate, and the CIA,” published last year. The news of the death surfaced again on March 31 on the website Kennedys and King.

Perhaps a little late but the Times picked it up & published the news yesterday.

The difference between Nixon & Trump: Nixon resigned rather than face impeachment.

Other differenced between Nixon and Trump: Nixon was smart. Nixon wasn't a fake Christian. Nixon held the same beliefs his entire life and didn't change parties every time he wanted to run for President. Nixon didn't break every single campaign pledge he made. Nixon wasn't a vulgar disgusting pig of a man who was buying the silence of porn stars who he was porking while his wife was pregnant. I can go on....

The other difference is that Nixon broke the law, and Trump didn't.

Some real geniuses among the burglars.

One of them had on him an address book with the entry "H. Hunt (and below that) WH: <phone number>".

Trump has yet to face impeachment, and I doubt he will.

While true, I've always remember the obituary that Hunter S. Thompson wrote about Nixon.

Hunter S. Thompson's Irreverent Eulogy for Nixon - The Atlantic

It was an interesting read as most of his are, but a little too over the top for me. I disagree with much of what he said. And I'll say it again - Trump isn't fit to wipe Nixon's runny nose.

I do have to say, this made me laugh out loud.

Rev. Billy Graham, still agile and eloquent at the age of 136

This right here will be the downfall of the U.S., low information voters.

Interesting.....

Trump is currently the subject or target of 16 ongoing State and Federal investigations. An investigation usually begins when a threshold of probable cause is reached. These investigations range from emoluments violations, to being an unnamed conspirator in a federal crime to using a charitable trust for personal gain. They do not include defrauding consumers in an entity known as Trump University nor do they include obstruction of justice in a well documented case currently before the House.

Saying the Trump broke no laws in light of all the accusations and potential accusations against him is somewhere between wishful thinking and being a polyanna. It may be time to check those reality tethers.

He was, on the other hand, like Trump a racist. The entire 'war on drugs' was actually a war in liberals and blacks. OF course, the original war against marijuana was a war against Mexicans.

Really?

What crime was Mr. Nixon indicted for committing?

What crime was Mr. Nixon tried for committing?

What crime was Mr. Nixon convicted of committing?

What crime was Mr. Nixon sentenced for committing?

What crime was Mr. Nixon sent to jail for committing?

If the answer to the above questions is "None.", then since Mr. Trump has never been indicted, tried, convicted, or sent to jail, how can you say that Mr. Nixon "broke the law" and Mr. Trump didn't?

Oh, that's right because "That's DIFFERENT!!!" - right?

Actually, if you have the time, you might want to take a look at the actual history of the "War against Marijuana" and the fact that it started right around the time that the Feds had practically wiped out the Heroin trade (and thousands of drug law enforcement personnel faced layoffs and/or the vanishing of their highly paid executive bureaucratic positions).

Lots of people were racist in the 1960s and 1970s. Not an excuse, but it was what it was. Nixon was from a different time. Still doesn't change what I said. Nixon was a far, far better man than Trump could ever hope to be, in spite of all of his faults.

The vast majority of people alive today are better people than 45.

We normally agree on a lot of things, but I'll disagree with you on this one, tres. Nixon committed open treason when his people sabotaged the Vietnam peace talks- LBJ found out about it, but he let it go because it would have been scandalous. Also, Nixon and Kissinger began a secret war in Cambodia, bombing huge swaths of that country without even telling Congress or anyone about it- thats a war crime right there.

I'm not a fan of Trump, but he's a boy scout compared to Nixon.

It was a sad day for Trump when Charles Manson passed away. That narrowed the list of people who I could honestly say are worse than Trump.
