Yankees and Flyers Will Stop Playing Kate Smith After Discovering Racist Songs - The New York Times

For the Yankees, Kate Smith’s version of “God Bless America” was a staple of the seventh-inning stretch since 2001.

For the Philadelphia Flyers, the connection was even tighter, with Smith serving as a mascot of sorts for the team’s 1970s Stanley Cup winners, and performing live at games.
==========================================
Now both teams will stop playing her recording at games following the discovery of the fact that she sang songs in the 1930s that had racist lyrics.

I grew up listening to her & always considered her to be an emblem of this country. Now, PC, not so much.

That's just idiotic.....

I say we string her up.

Damn. She died in 1986. I say we dig her up and string her up, then. That'll teach her. I'm a throw'n in Beethoven, Bach, Brahams, Mozart, and all the rest, too. They may be dead, but they wasn't woke. Er, woke-ted. Whatever.

I haven't been toa Yankees game in a few years. Last time I did go they played Rock N Roll by Garry Glitter. I wonder if they still allow a well known pedophiles music to be played?

How ever will America survive the desecration of the historic writer of “Why the Darkies Were Born?”

You play Dixie Chicks regularly?

That's fine with me. The reason is asinine, but they're allowed that, as well.

Why is it asinine to decide not to play songs by someone who wrote “Why the Darkies Were Born?”

For the same reason it wasn't asinine to let Robert Byrd serve as a Democrat in the Senate.

...it was asinine to keep electing that ****head.

Uh huh. Because people never, ever change, huh? Once a child, always abchild? Once a slave, always a slave? You stuck there?

Personally, I believe salvation is available to every human.

Not exactly a toe-tapper: YouTube 'Brothers, listen to me.' "Someone had to plant the cotton.' 'That's why Darkies were born.'

It's asinine because they play music by modern artists who have recorded songs glorify killing, drug dealing, anti LGBT and degrading views towards women without concern. But a woman who recorded a song almost 90 years ago was a step to far. It's just more hypocritical PC bull**** and another reason to cheer against the Yankees.

Salvation 35 years post-mortem clearly falls outside the purview of the New York Yankees.

Feel free to Not Buy Yankees Tickets. Nobody will be offended.

Those racist Yankees. Now, now they decide Smith's a racist. She wasn't last year.

Pretty sure Bach had indentured servants. Bastard.

Yes, people who had indentured servants were monsters. People who had slaves were monsters. Now you’re getting it. The history of the world is utterly packed with monsters. That there were so many of them doesn’t make them any less of a monster.

Robert Byrd?.....Did he have a song played at Yankees games?....What are you babbling about?

He brought up irrelevant nonsense because he thought he had his “gotcha” moment. “Haha! Byrd was a bad man and a democrat! You’re a democrat, so you like the bad man!”

He had to pivot when it turned out I’m not actually a fan of KKK leaders just because there’s a D next to their name.

So much for Tocata and Fugue. I'll call the Lincoln Center and let 'em know.
