Putting American flags on police cars sparks backlash in Laguna Beach

What flag should they put up?

The confederate flag? The DPRK flag?

Idiotic.

It is idiotic...This is the liberal mentality at work here...Somehow the country's flag will make illegals feel bad, so we must get rid of the American flag....

How dare those people not respect our flag :doh

Screen-Shot-2019-03-23-at-9.25.05-PM.jpg

What? Apples to oranges.....Try again.

I make it a point never to venture south of Long Beach, if I can help it.

Even though it's totally blue now, there's just nothing that I can think of in the OC that would interest me.

Surfing, dude, surfing! Huntington Beach is the mecca of SoCal surfing. Also Disneyland and Knotts. ;)

Maybe they should fly the fasces or the Nazi flag.

Being upset about this makes no sense.

Why would they care so much? I mean, does the American flag disgust them?

Note that it's not even the flag... but some elements of it.

I'm sure if were a conglomerate of the world's flags, they wouldn't have a problem....Maybe the town should change the elements to that of the Honduran flag so the illegals would feel right at home....

Surely you didn't miss this in the OP: “People are screaming that the American flag on a police car is somehow or another ... hurting people’s feelings who might be immigrants or visitors,” said Councilman Peter Blake."
He said that "people are screaming", but the two people they talked to in the article that had concerns mentioned absolutely nothing regarding the american flag portion of the design.

 Um, NO!....That's NOT what they are saying....They are afraid that it will scare illegals in the community...Awwww....The flag scares illegals = SWAT? WTF are you talking about? :lamo

From your article:
But the graphic element of the paint job didn't scream “Laguna Beach” to everyone. Local designer Chris Prelitz was dining with his wife at the Montage hotel when he spotted several parents and small children scattering.

“There was like a little panic going on, and I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ ” Prelitz said. The hubbub, he discovered, was over a cluster of police cars that had arrived at the scene. “When one of them’s there, it works. But all of a sudden, I saw, wow, when there are three, maybe four of them together, folks thought it was a SWAT team, federal agents. So it had a very striking, strong impact, so much so that I think there might be some unintended consequences.”

Based on the article, my original statement seems to be entirely accurate. The only person that discussed immigrants was the councilman who was lambasting the other side, seemingly just to score political points by the sound of it.

As I said, if there are people just bitching over the fact that the american flag is on the car, then we should ignore their very silly opinion. But that doesn't seem to be what most of them are complaining about. Most of them , by the sound of it, simply don't want their local police cars to look like federal agents or a swat team.

I would encourage you to look at the design. If anything, the logo softens the look of the car - which otherwise is an all black SUV.

What a bunch of mamby pamby snowflakes then....There is one officer per car, and people are cowering in fright if more than one car shows up on a scene? What the hell is the matter with people?

The strangest part is people acting like this is normal. No other cop vehicles in the country sport flags, except these nine of eleven.

Of course when someone has never seen a cop car with a flag on it, it gives pause.

You're being sarcastic right?

Meh. I grew up in the Big Sur/Carmel area, so S. Cal surfing will NEVER be a thing for me. Too many damned people, not enough isolation.

Those are parade vehicles.

lol....No, they are not.....:doh

While there is one there that appears to be participating in a parade, most police cars that I see all over the country are similar to this:

And have a flag either on the rear quarter panel, or the rear door pillar like the one shown...

Think I didn't google? Think I don't know every other pic you found was the Laguna vehicles?

Those are custom vehicles, for parades. Not fleet paint jobs.

Do spare me.

"But cop cars have little flags, on the rear or a quarter panel!"

Yeah, that's what we're talking about. Come on. Little honesty. Just a little.

What the hell is the matter with people in Cali? Do they really not want to be a part of the USA anymore?

This is one of my most favorite beach communities in the entire state. There is not a summer where I don't manage to visit.
The entire community is based around the arts. The coastline and the beaches are among the best in the world.
I am not surprised to learn that a few might say the American flag is "too aggressive" but those few are very confused. Whatever happened to "beauty and art is in the eye of the beholder"? Why do a few "artists" like artist Carrie Woodburn, get to tell ME, the beholder, what is too aggressive? Seems hypocritical.
