A decision to affix an American flag graphic to the side of freshly painted Laguna Beach police cars is dividing residents, who are alternately praising the image as patriotic or panning it as too aggressive.[FONT=&quot]After hearing the criticism and acknowledging that the image they approved didn’t quite match the final results, officials agreed to reconsider their February decision to paint the Laguna Beach Police Department’s fleet of 11 squad cars. The City Council will take up the issue again at its Tuesday meeting.

[FONT=&quot]“People are screaming that the American flag on a police car is somehow or another ... hurting people’s feelings who might be immigrants or visitors,” said Councilman Peter Blake. “People are actually ridiculous enough to bring up comments about our cop cars having American flags on them.”

[FONT=&quot]Artist Carrie Woodburn went to the podium at the March 19 council meeting and said it was “shocking to see the boldness of the design” when the newly painted Ford Explorers rolled out.

“We have such an amazing community of artists here, and I thought the aesthetic didn’t really represent our community,” Woodburn said. “It feels very aggressive.”

What the hell is the matter with people in Cali? Do they really not want to be a part of the USA anymore?

Yes that's it..they dont want to be in America anymore..totally nailed it../s

That's crazy.

The graphic looks cool - and patriotic - and shouldn't be considered overbearing by anyone. It's not even the flag, but elements of it within the lettering (a few white stars on blue, and some red and white swirls).

The American flag is "too aggressive."

Not for vertebrates, it isn't.

Just really pathetic.

Nah, it's not that. We all got together and asked ourselves, "What could we do to REALLY piss off j-mac."

We dumbed the results down a few times and came up with this.

Well, you tell me? Ashamed of their country's flag? what?

The American flag is raaaaaaaaaaaaaacist. Have you not gotten the memo?

Not for any carbon-based life form that casts a shadow, it isn't.

I am willing to bet that if this issue didn't get into the news like this, most of the residents of Laguna Beach never would have noticed the police changed the graphic.

No other cop car, city county or state, in the country has a flag on it. No one has ever seen a cop car with a flag on it. So, naturally, one could presume it's a fed.

I expect cops don't wanna look like feds any more than city officials want them to.

Best part of the article:
Attorney Jennifer Welsh Zeiter said at the last council meeting that she found the police cars “exceptional” and questioned the loyalty of anyone who objected to the American flag display.

“They are so filled with hatred toward this ... office of the president of the United States and the current occupant of that office,” she said, “that they cannot see through their current biases to realize that a police vehicle with the American flag is the ultimate American expression.”

So ridiculous.

The graphic is disturbing.

I can't find any portion of the article where anyone said that the american flag on the police cars was bothering anyone. From what I read, a very small group of people think the design of the police cars looks a little too aggressive, as if they are swat team or something, and they are concerned it would scare people when the cop cars pull up. I don't agree with them, it looks good to me. But the title seems misleading at best.

I was living in LA until the late 1990's, and Laguna Beach is a pretty conservative enclave. I dunno if it changed since then.

On the flip side, at least it wasnt Confederate flags...

This article is nothing more than a dog whistle on a slow news day meant to drum up web traffic by exploiting frightened conservatives. Why should I care what a few wingnuts in Laguna Beach think about the design of their police cars?

Rather ironic, since Orange County (where LB is) was actually found by.... wait for it... Confederates.

Right, it's a graphic, NOT an American flag.

The snowflakes just have to have SOMETHING to bitch about daily to satisfy their emptiness.

LOL yup. The only time I ever saw Confederate flags on public display in LA was in OC.

Sounds like a small population in a town of approximately 30k disagree with the logo.

Nope, not the flag. Just large parts of the country.

Remember when the Black POTUS candidate didn't wear a flag pin? It was a national crisis for American conservatives, and proved Obama wasn't a real American, but a Muslim terrorist born in Kenya.

Remember when the White POTUS candidate didn't wear a flag pin? Nope, me neither because American conservatives couldn't care less.

It was all about the colour of the candidates skin. To deny that is ridiculous, so how about conservatives start being honest about racism?

I make it a point never to venture south of Long Beach, if I can help it.

Even though it's totally blue now, there's just nothing that I can think of in the OC that would interest me.

How dare those people not respect our flag :doh

What flag should they put up?

The confederate flag? The DPRK flag?

Idiotic.

Surely you didn't miss this in the OP: “People are screaming that the American flag on a police car is somehow or another ... hurting people’s feelings who might be immigrants or visitors,” said Councilman Peter Blake."

 Um, NO!....That's NOT what they are saying....They are afraid that it will scare illegals in the community...Awwww....The flag scares illegals = SWAT? WTF are you talking about? :lamo
