Trump complains US troops at border 'can't get a little rough, like they would normally'

For 2019, Canada will be admitting between 42,000 and 58,000 refugees.

For 2019, the US will be admitting no more than 30,000 refugees.

Taking the average for the Canadian numbers ([42,000+58,000]/2) , and adjusting for relative population size (37.06Mn vs 327.2Mn), that means that Canada is taking in (proportionately) 14.7 times as many refugees as the US is taking.

The "Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America for cooperation in the examination of refugee status claims from nationals of third countries" came into force on December 29, 2004 - when George W Bush was the President of the United States of America would require the government of Canada to reject "Those People" should they travel across the US from the Mexican border and seek refugee status in Canada.

You really aren't suggesting that the government of Canada should break the laws of both Canada and the United States of America are you?

That's it? :lamo

There were 100,000 border crossers last month, on the US/Mexico border and that's the ones that we know of.

Looks like Canadians need to step up, or shut up.

Quite right. All that Mr. Trump has to do is to declare war on Mexico and the US military will be able to "defend the United States of America from foreign invasion".

He doesn't even have to do that.

Chicago has always been run by Democrats, so that's where the brutality comes from. I wouldn't mind if our troops shot traffickers, and Mexicans soldiers/drug cartels henchmen that shoot at our troops.

I only went back five years and I will admit that my search was a very fast scan, but I didn't find a single incident where "Mexicans soldiers/drug cartels henchmen that shoot at our troops". Possibly you'd like to provide links to the many hundreds of such incidents that I know you are aware of but which both the MSM and the US government are concealing from honest, hard-working, patriotic Americans?

Then again, possibly you wouldn't.

If only Canada had a border with them!

IF Canada had a border with them then Canada wouldn't be required (by both US and Canadian law) to refuse their requests for refugee status when they show up at the US/Canada border.

I suppose that that little problem could be fixed by transferring ownership of California, Oregon, Washington and a one mile wide strip along the remainder of the US/Mexico boundary from the US to Canada, but I don't think that that is very likely to happen.

So, since Canada is already taking (proportionately) over 17 times as many refugees as the US is taking that means that Canada isn't "doing its bit" does it?

You do realize that, once the US government lets those people into the United States of America (whether on purpose or not), the terms of the laws of Canada and the United States of America PROHIBIT (with some minor exemptions) Canada from granting them refugee status.

The solution for the US is really quite simple, don't let them into the US and then they can make a legal claim for refugee status in Canada.

Don't blame Canada (or me) if the Republican administration of George W Bush insisted on, and got, the laws that the Republican administration of George W Bush insisted on and got.

Trump complains US troops at border 'can't get a little rough, like they would normally'

Donald Trump has complained that US border troops cannot “get a little rough” with migrants because “everybody would go crazy”.
The president lamented that his military “can’t act like they would normally act” by being heavy-handed with refugee families.

He blamed “horrible laws that Democrats will not change” and said he was considering deploying more troops to the Mexico border to stop migrants attempting to cross into the US.

Speaking to reporters in Texas, Mr Trump said: “I’m going to have to call up more military.

"But our military, don’t forget, can’t act like a military would act because if they get a little rough, everybody would go crazy. So our military can’t act like they would normally act, or let’s say another military from another country would act.

COMMENT:-

It appears that Mr. Trump would prefer that the US Army have the same freedom to kill people in other countries as the IDF does (or the same ability to beat people senseless that the Brown Shirts or Mayor Daley's Chicago Police Department had).

Horrible laws that Democrats won't change. Just more of the same- he did diddly-squat when his party controlled Congress and now he wants the Democrats to do it for him.

It's all smoke, all bull****, this immigration crisis. There was no crisis while the Republicans could have solved it. It's just Trump wanting to demonize the Democrats, just an electioneering ploy. And his loyal minions just looove being played.

If only Canada had a border with them!

We get lots of asylum seekers walking across our border with the US. More than we can handle. Some have turned up so badly injured by frostbite they've lost fingers and toes.

Except it's not the job of a president to declare war.

That responsibility falls to congress...

Ignore American, I have caught him in several lies, not worth the time.

How the hell does Cadet Bone Spurs know what soldiers would 'normally' do?

Trump's complaint, which by the way is the same complaint of soldiers and officers and civil authority, is why it's a bad idea to use soldiers as police.

Soldiers don't like being sitting ducks, as symbols of America, in conflict resolution. That's not what they signed up for.

Civil authority doesn't like the idea. Stuff about it is in the Constitution.

Trump doesn't like it.

So let's not do it.

shrug...

Contrary to the nonsensical thinking from our Trump hating brethren here on DP, Trump and I don't always agree.

Well, you just have to, I'm afraid. These days you'll either love, or hate. No departure from that dichotomy will be tolerated. Keeps everyone from having to think. Thanks in advance for your help, and I hate you, too.

Well.....lobbing MOABS and drone strikes on our border could be perceived as a bit draconian.

Justin Trudeau said at one time that, paraphrasing here, 'Canada would gladly accept as many immigrants as America would let through'.....Then we have this from last summer....

"In what has become an increasingly regular mission, Canadian representatives visited the U.S this week to warn immigrants fearful over President Trump's immigration crackdown that they can't simply rush north of the border to find safe haven.
Canada warns immigrants in U.S. about heading north of the border

And there is this:

So, Canada is tough on immigration, why should America be easy?

You are suggesting that America is a country of 'big meanies' if they don't just allow all of these people into the country, while immigration to Canada is exponentially tougher to legally gain than America...It is just more hypocrisy from you TU.

I thought liberals were against bullying?

I'd like to see our military be able to use this on the border:

Thank you for displaying for all to see that the GOP/Trumpian model of government completely rejects traditional American values. Instead it hails the model of a totalitarian police state, that roughs up the poor and the weak just to show’em who’s boss and makes sure those who are arrested get their heads banged against the police car roof. Forget about the presumption of innocence.

Yes, the military-school volunteer that dodged the draft when it mattered.
