LONDON — Julian Assange, the fugitive founder of WikiLeaks and publisher of state secrets that embarrassed governments around the world, was arrested on behalf of the U.S. in London on Thursday.

Assange was wanted by British authorities for skipping bail in August 2012, while he was under investigation for sexual assault and rape in Sweden. He had spent almost seven years living in the U.K. capital's Ecuadorian Embassy.

London's Metropolitan Police later confirmed that Assange had been arrested under an extradition warrant.

A source directly familiar with the situation told NBC News that the U.S. is making plans to seek Assange's extradition in connection with sealed federal charges filed in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Assange's longstanding barrister Jen Robinson tweeted that the warrant was first issued in 2017.

Assange has been arrested in the UK and the US has asked for extradition. Assange may just yet see the inside of a US jail yet. I wonder how Chelsi Manning's release from prison will effect the case. I wonder if he will give additional insight on how he received the hacked email from the DNC.

My question is what changed Ecuador's opinion.

That is an interesting question. In the video of the arrest Assange sure looked haggard. I wonder what effect this will have on Wiki leaks?

For one I doubt they will be releasing DNC emails any time soon.

My question is what changed Ecuador's opinion.

According to the former President of Ecuador, this is on the current President of Ecuador.

Ecuador’s former President Rafael Correa blasted his successor, Lenin Moreno, as a “traitor” on Thursday for allowing the arrest of Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange.

“The greatest traitor in Ecuadorian and Latin American history, Lenin Moreno, allowed the British police to enter our embassy in London to arrest Assange,” Correa wrote on Twitter. “Moreno is a corrupt man, but what he has done is a crime that humanity will never forget.”

My question is what changed Ecuador's opinion.

One source claims the release of damaging information on Ecuador's government (not the most democratic and certainly not without corruption)

Assange is no longer running Leaks but the stink of it is still on him... :peace

Trumpian hyperbole appears to be contagious.

LOL!!

EVERYTHING is Trump's fault, right?

So tell me, do you think Trump pressured the former President to not release Assange? Or do you think Trump pressured the current President to turn him over? Or do you think Trump did both?

And, btw, do you think Trump had anything to do with the DOJ decision to charge Assange with a crime?

Tell me...honestly...how far does your TDS take you nowadays?

Maybe they'll extradite him to the US so that king Tangface can thank him personally.

By all accounts Assange treated the Ecuadorians like crap—for example, refusing to clear up after himself and his cat—and it caught up to him.

I don't think Trump had anything to do with it at all. I was simply struck by the former President Correa's words:

“The greatest traitor in Ecuadorian and Latin American history, Lenin Moreno, allowed the British police to enter our embassy in London to arrest Assange,” Correa wrote on Twitter. “Moreno is a corrupt man, but what he has done is a crime that humanity will never forget.”

Heavy on the hyperbole and melodrama, don't you think?

Don't know. I don't know anything about Ecuador and their politics.

I'm not commenting on Ecuador's politics, only on the the quality of the former President's verbal expression here. I find his style to be similar to Trump's.

My question is what changed Ecuador's opinion.

It is curious too, but I suspect he wore out his welcome. The new president didn't seem as tolerant of the entire situation, and probably thought it was silly to house him in the embassy. It likely didn't help that WikiLeaks released personal information about him. Not to mention that he filed human rights abuse claims with several courts regarding rules imposed by the embassy - including that he pay his own medical bills and clean up after his cat.

Awe yeah, Trump's DOJ is working for extradition for Assange to stand trial for crimes against the US... because that's what friends do for friends... or something.

And would it be asking too much for folks to provide links to their comments on Ecuador and Assange?

Assange looked like a crazy cat person when he was arrested.

He did look like a cat caught in a trap. He looked panicked.

Good.

****er.

Juicy read at the Daily Mail about his slovenliness and worse (smearing his excrement on his bathroom wall and stuffing dirty underwear in the toilet).

My question is what changed Ecuador's opinion.

Trump taking a dump on the Constitution & maneuvering for this.

Another dagger in the heart of Obama's legacy of restraint.

A truly sad day for human rights and freedoms.

Lol, that is hilarious.
