DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen expected to resign, officials say

It's certainly a message Trump hammered on that proved to be a huge failure in the midterms. So let him continue to follow the lead of his weird little Himmler reincarnate in continuing with that same messaging and they'll likely get hammered again in 2020.

As martha Stewart says... "and that's a good thing".

Congress didn't tell Trump to separate families
Obama did as well as this was result of a federal court decision.
or to defy international law in denying asylum seekers from entering the country via legal points of entry.
What do you do when your system of housing and caring for them is overwhelmed? Which international law forces a country to take asylum seekers? Never mind that the overhelming majority of them are found to be improper and not applicable.
Trump is looking, as always, for quick fixes to complex problems.
False. Trump has been giving congress opportunities to act on this issue since day 1 of his administration. Congress has elected not to act.
He thought that cruelty would dissuade these people from coming when in actuality his tough rhetoric and the poorly coordinated implementation of his policies while simultaneously neglecting to address the root causes that are driving these people to flee Central America have greatly exacerbated the problem. He has made this into a humanitarian crisis via his failed policies and divisive fear mongering political rhetoric

Congress has made it into a crisis due to their in action over the last 30 some years, ever since the last deal with Regan.

You really need to become better informed. “It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt”.

And meanwhile Trump's campaign promise to make infrastructure a major focus has gone to hell.

2019 Bridge Report

47,000 U.S Bridges in Poor Condition & Pace of Repair Slows to Crawl
Highlights

• 47,052 of America’s 616,087 bridges are rated “structurally deficient” and need urgent repairs
• The pace of repair in 2018 slowed compared to previous years—with only a 1 percent net reduction of deficient structures.
• Americans cross these deficient bridges 178 million times a day.
• Average age of a structurally deficient bridge is 62 years, compared to 40 years for non-deficient bridges.
• 235,020 (38 percent) of U.S. bridges have identified repair needs.
• 18,842 (1 in 3) Interstate highway bridges have identified repair needs.
• State by state details: artbabridgereport.org

Other than himself Trump is obsessed with television news, the Mueller Report, Twitter, immigration, John McCain and golf. Most everything else he doesn't care about.

Nielsen's replacement will be "acting" and remain "acting" like most replacements in the upper levels of Trump's government. You can bet the farm on Trump heavy handing immigration reform. Most everything else will continue to go to hell.

It's strange that last year immigration was at its lowest and the WH was beating its breast in victory. This year there's a crisis and we need billions upon billions. Which is it? Or could it be El Supremo's final solution is blowing up in his face and has no bloody idea what to do? Is there anything the Dems can offer that's different from past presidents afforts or is the Trump response a lazy and incoherent mess? I do believe Dems need to step in as the adults and staff the immigration courts and the associated bureaucracy and not make stupid Trump decisions like withholding aid that only makes things worse. I'd suggest a top to bottom re-think on how we are propping up the the 3 Latin Am countries where the bulk of the immigration comes from. But then we'd need a State Department that's properly staffed.

I'm surprised he hasn't outsourced the positions.

That's really too bad. I thought she was doing a pretty good job in an incredibly difficult situation. Wishing her well, if it's true. Can never tell with the politically biased media these days. I'll wait 48 - 96 hours for confirmation reports.
I wasn't crazy about her policies or data presentation, but I must admit she does carry herself well; one of the best in Trump's administration in that regard ...

So much winning....only the best. What a dumpster fire of a presidency.

Congress, and to some extent the courts, have set the conditions that the administration is charged with enforcing. There in lies the root cause of the bad situation that we have to live with today.

Congress needs to agree to, and pass, much needed, long overdue and immigration and border enforcement reforms; something that's at least based on some sort of common sense and easily enforcible. Congress has elected to neglect their duty to the nation in this regard, and the result is the mess that we have, aggravated by the up swing in the economy and the related job market demand, which is acting as an incitement for illegal border crossers.

Yes, it is a crisis. Yes it is an emergency. Everything short of changing the legislation is only band-aids on a ruptured artery.
I really wish we could bring real-world consequences to all the idiots in Congress who would rather play power games than solve our immigration crisis.

Who from Fox News will replace her?

Trump is a great man. You are obviously quite the opposite.

Lots of good companies change top people to keep things fresh. But you being the mop boy at McDonalds probably don't know that do you.

When all these people start writing "tell all books".... it will shock the ignorantly devoted, who have vested their whole concept of life, in the vile and madness of the Trump and Republican Agenda. But, its not even likely then that they will awaken.... they will simply go into more deflection and denials of what is obvious to most thinking Americans and much of the world that looks upon the cycles of this madness.

America will eventually recover when we can get Republicans out of the Senate, and NEVER allow them to dominate in the Senate or the House, and we get a Democratic Minded President that respects American Governance, American Society and the Economics as it relates to the average citizen...

ONLY THEN.... Will "We, as American's see a restoration of respect for "children", "senior citizens" and the young and working age people in America, Respect for the Government and Respect for the Humanity and Dignity of the General Population.
We can restore our Diplomatic Corp and Rebuild our global relations... and move-on to build for the future.

Trump has done nothing to improve the economy; the forward progress was already in process by and during Obama's Term and the work they did gave it the legs to continue.

Trump has damaged America's Farmer's in ways that it will take a Massive Federal Bail Out, to get them back up on their feet. Only under a Democratic Leadership can this be done and done in a way where we as Americans support it... What will be necessary within the process is how willing and how well these Farmers can embrace the help and rid themselves of their Right Wing Ideology, and Accept the Growth and Change in America as a Multi-Cultural Society.

One thing you don't hear any Farmers complaining about is, Immigrants from South of the Border, because they know these people know farming, and they are good at it, and they have innovative minds that can help transform it into something that works without racial bigotry and bias... while paying a living wage, and still making a profit on the harvesting.

We have only a short while to deal with this mess that exist in our Executive Branch.... and when the term is up... people will rejoice, and when we re-invest in education with Civics Education as a focus within it, then we can educate people on the real truths of Government and How it works for society.
A big yes, to the bolded; no more learning the Constitution from Fox & Breitbart!

I'd say immigration reform is history. I think Trump's going to be all strong-arm from here into the election; Executive Orders, Emergency Orders, hyperbolic theatric fear.

No personal attacks

Obama did as well as this was result of a federal court decision.

Not quite. What Obama was facing was an unprecedented high number of "unaccompanied" children arriving at the border. Which law made under the previous Administration required to them to be kept in separate facilities for safety and they quickly found themselves running out of available space in facilities that could meet or satisfy the requirements of the law.

What do you do when your system of housing and caring for them is overwhelmed? Which international law forces a country to take asylum seekers? Never mind that the overhelming majority of them are found to be improper and not applicable.

You do what the Obama Administration did and mobilize all the applicable departments and institutions of the government to find, appropriate, distribute, implement and coordinate effectively all the money and resources deemed needed to meet the crisis. No international law "forces" countries to to take asylum seekers. It requires that you give them the legal opportunity to apply for asylum and provide for their safety and well being throughout the process.

False. Trump has been giving congress opportunities to act on this issue since day 1 of his administration. Congress has elected not to act.
Trump hasn't given Congress any opportunities to act on this issue. Instead he has shot down every Congressional proposal, be it bipartisan or from his own party, even shut down the government for weeks if it didn't include full funding for his promised 'vanity' wall.

You really need to become better informed. “It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt”.

You really need to grow up. You pretended to play nice at first and then when you began to run out of reasonable arguments to make to my counterpoints you felt the need to resort to personal insults. And that without a doubt is what makes one look stupid.

Did the Obama administration separate children and their alleged 'parents' or not? Sure reads like you are dodging that simple question that you posed. From what I heard and / or read, the Obama administration, held to the same laws and court decisions, had little choice but to do the same. The only difference, it would appear, is the biased media reporting of the matter, and the fauxrage generated by that biased reporting.

It's called catch and release, and it is a flawed policy, and part of which has landed in this mess, as catch and release is a motivation for illegal immigrants crossing the border and falsely claiming asylum, knowing full well that they'll be released into the interior of the nation never to be seen or heard from again when their assylum hearing comes up.

Trump hasn't given Congress any opportunities to act on this issue. Instead he has shot down every Congressional proposal, be it bipartisan or from his own party, even shut down the government for weeks if it didn't include full funding for his promised 'vanity' wall.

Oh bull****. Congress had every opportunity to do so, and simply didn't have the stomach to do it. They've had ample opportunity to do so even during the Obama administration, and simply didn't have the stomach to do it then either.

You really need to grow up. You pretended to play nice at first and then when you began to run out of reasonable arguments to make to my counterpoints you felt the need to resort to personal insults. And that without a doubt is what makes one look stupid.

Whatever. I'm being more than reasonable, and haven't been flinging personal insults around. I'm still left with the impression that you ill-informed, hearing only the 1/2 of the situation that you want to, or is fed to you by politically biased sources. You can do something to dispel that impression you know. ;)

Did the Obama administration separate children and their alleged 'parents' or not?

On request for asylum? No. Only in criminal cases wherein the parent had to be incarcerated.

So you are confirming that Obama separated parents and their children. Thank you.

Are you really this stupid? Did you even know the meaning of the word "unaccompanied"? How can you forcibly separate someone who arrived unaccompanied by their family from them? And the only difference is that the Obama administration knew what the law is. Unlike Trump who thought that "Flores" was the name of the judge who made the law rather that the name of the plaintiff after whom the law was named. Our country is being led by a special kind of stupid.

No it's Trump who calls it 'catch and release'. Which has worked quite well with 90% or above showing up for their court cases when ordered to do so.

Bull**** the President didn't have the integrity to follow through on it. Repubs also had control of Congress for the last 6 years of Obama's 8 year run as President and all they did was resolve to oppose anything and everything he proposed or favored.

I think trump puts very high demands and expectations on his staff and it causes them to burn out. Of course the opposition will try to paint this as the wheels are coming off the cart and it spells the end for trump. it's boring how predictable they are.

Maybe Trump can find yet another unqualified campaign donor to step in.....

Trump has still not quite scraped the very bottom of the barrel yet.

Soon he will have to start pardoning mobsters to fill positions that not even Chris Christie will touch...

Even the morons who associate with trump recognize that everyone in his orbit goes to jail but trump...

Not at this rate. High turnover is usually an indication of poor management. That wouldn't surprise me with this administration because of the times Trump has undercut his appointees.

Couple of thing here.

President Barack Obama separated parents from their children at the border.
Obama prosecuted mothers for coming to the United States illegally. He fast tracked deportations. And yes, he housed unaccompanied children in tent cities.
For much of the country — and President Donald Trump — the prevailing belief is that Obama was the president who went easier on immigrants.
Neither Obama nor Democrats created Trump's zero-tolerance policy, which calls for every illegal border crosser to be prosecuted and leads to their children being detained in separate facilities before being shipped to a shelter and eventually a sponsor family.
Yes, Obama separated families at the border, too | McClatchy Washington Bureau

On June 20, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing Nielsen to keep families in custody together “during the pendency of any criminal improper entry or immigration proceedings involving their members” at least “to the extent permitted by law and subject to the availability of appropriations.”

No it's Trump who calls it 'catch and release'. Which has worked quite well with 90% or above showing up for their court cases when ordered to do so.

The term 'Catch and Release' predates Trump.

Under George W. Bush
In testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in October 2005, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said that the DHS would "Return every single illegal entrant – no exceptions."[11] In his testimony, Chertoff said that in the previous fiscal year, the U.S. Border Patrol immediately returned almost 900,000 Mexicans apprehended entering the U.S. to Mexico, but that of the 160,000 non-Mexican nationals apprehended, about 30,000 were removed from the U.S. Chertoff said that most others were released pending immigration hearings and that few appeared for the hearings. He called for more beds in immigration detention.[11] In July 2006, Chertoff indicated in House committee testimony that an infusion of funding for more immigration detention had allowed DHS to detain almost all non-Mexican illegal immigrants.[12]
In August 2006, Chertoff said that the "'catch-and-release' practice that for years helped many illegal immigrants stay in the United States unhindered" had ended and that DHS detained 99% of apprehended non-Mexican border-crossers. (Mexican border-crossers could be subject to expedited removal.) Chertoff said that more immigration detention had helped deter illegal immigration; advocates for immigrant rights "questioned whether the border crackdown actually deters people from sneaking into the U.S., noting that some illegal immigrants may just be shifting entry points to cross at more remote and dangerous areas."[13][14]

Skip the last 30 years only to focus on the last 2. Brilliant bit of cherry picking there. But I get it. "Orange man bad!"
