Trump administration now says entire Affordable Care Act should be struck down

The Republican base are doe eyed zombies. They love leader, he's racist, xenophobic, authoritarian, an asshole, and most of all hurts the people they don't like; the perfect Republican. They don't care if they get hurt, just as long as he gets the Muslims, the Mexicans, the blacks, the liberals, and everyone that isn't them.

cant go one serious legislative post without throwing out HIGHLY incendiary, hyperbole rhetoric. JEEZ

Why cant we have one DAMN post that debates the ACTUAL legislation without someone saying all the above BULL CRAP....

YES, BUT they through in the penalty that the people would RATHER take then the mandate itself. THAT killed the premium pool.

"If we want to cover Pre existing conditions"
I see where you are coming from but here is the questions.

1) True cost analysis, TOTAL premiums in, vs TOTAL expenses out. the likely fact is unfortunately there is NOT enough Premium to cover the Total Expenses out THAT now include Pre Existing conditions that likely carry 70% of the Actual cost burden.

2) A Competitive market or a HIGHLY regulated market. ONLY 2 real options

2a) Competative market, Mutiple levels, Let them set the cost. Some that want volume will charge cheaper, Some the emphasize on specialty care will charge higher. But letting the MARKET place set the price and premiums allowing those at many levels of cost to afford care.

2b) Regulated market. ALL hospitals and doctors have a flat rate, All specialty services are regulated by pricing So that we can set a Dollar expense so we can equally share the cost burden cross the tax payers.

WE cannot combine the above 2. If we want one or the other we have to commit both have their pro's and cons, but we cant do this mixed ACA crap the way it is its totally broken.

The penalty helps subsidize the system. You can argue that the penalty isn't high enough to discourage people from opting to absorb the penalty instead of buying insurance.

Regarding all the other points, we know now that it is nine years after passage that Obamacare works -- even after Republicans have been gunning for it and trying to sabotage it for nine years. We also know that the premium increases have been lower than during the preceding period. We also know that tens of millions now are covered who weren't. Yup, it works.

Their only hope is to rig another election. Better hope Russia is on their game.

Still stuck on the Russia thing? That's so yesterday. He won fair and square, plan for 6 more years.

Except marketplace insurers have been in the black for three years now. Beef up the premium tax credits a bit (since financial assistance has proven to be a much more effective inducement than the individual mandate) and throw in a little reinsurance to bring overall premium levels down, both of which are in the Dems' legislation today, and we're done.

How about when Democrats get in power they cancel red state welfare and see how you react to that? Republicans account for 1/3rd of GDP yet need 2/3rds of assistance. The reason they go after minorities and immigrants is because they need somebody below them.

Russia and the FBI helped. Without gerrymandering and the electoral college Republicans would lose all power in the U.S. and never get it back.

Agreed we can argue the subsidized system. I get the idea but they should not have added the options to discourage by deferring to the penalty ( I missed that legislation but I think there was a reason to add that in? But it killed the mandate)

As per my Original Post, ACA is republican proof. Purely due to emotion HOW CAN YOU take away the pre existing exclusion now.... Thats Political Suicide IT WAS A HELLA Of a move.

We also Know premium Increase have been lower? By what standards? First off now that there are so many tiers, the minimum required tiers have NOT moved much but its the tiers that required higher levels example.

My carrier, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze.

Bronze is the minimum approved market for the ACA without being penalized. BUT I have purchased the Platinum because I value my care, I could afford it.....

Here is the next thing. MY platinum policy has almost Tripled since ACA began ($227 -2012, Current $617-2019 per month) . The silver and bronze plans as I go on each year to look (Health Care.gov) has only gone up 12% since I looked in 2012. SECONDLY. If your income is poverty your COST is SUBSIDIZED. So those that elect or qualify at the silver and Bronze plan levels get a premium reduction from the government. I DO NOT qualify at all for a reduction at the platinum, level nor at all even if say I lowered my plan due to my income.

SO essentially I have been subsidizing the COST for SOMEONE ELSE since ACA began I have not used my plan outside of NORMAL yearly check ups as required by my plan and doctor. NO current health ailments or conditions.

ACA focus on a Minority and the bulk is a subsidized cost PERIOD. This does not effect the GREATER good of the people but more the "emotionally' beneficial Minority. That is why it republican proof to repeal.

NOW while this sounds SUPER CRAPPY period, IF the Republicans COULD come up with a legislated PLAN AFTER the repeal to ADDRESS it, then thats one thing BUT it is FACTUALLY Stupid and "heartless" to just repeal it with no plan.

PRIOR to ACA "only 9 years ago" as you stated. Pre Existing conditions were NOT covered ANYWAYS... so people were dying off due to lack of care or coverage just 9 years ago?

Next...10s of millions are covered. YES thats true, and 10's of millions also are opting to Have NONE due to the mandate and the penalty. So its a wash... MAYBE NOT, maybe MORE people are choosing NOT to take coverage due to the cost and the 10 million pre existing conditions are currently reaping the benefits?

Because Where are we going to get the money? from Tax payers eventually

Yes they are in the black... Look at the actuaries. How did they @#% This up so bad.

Cost going out for the Care vs Premium coming in.

the Cost going out goes 2 ways

1) ACTUAL Cost of Care, Since there is NO regulation to this, these guys charge whatever the hell they want. We can regulate this if we really wanted
2) The Minority Pre existing COST was much greater than anticipated.

Had nothing to do with PREMIUMs going in ALWAYS to do with cost going out.

You think Trump wants to end Obamacare because he's going to fix healthcare? LMAO... sucker born every day. I guess you'd have to be to be a Republican. Still waiting for that trickle down economics to land you your range rover and boat?

Trump administration now says entire Affordable Care Act should be struck down - CNNPolitics

The Trump administration on Monday said the entire Affordable Care Act should be struck down, in a dramatic reversal.

In a filing with a federal appeals court, the Justice Department said it agreed with the ruling of a federal judge in Texas that invalidated the Obama-era health care law.
In a letter Monday night, the administration said "it is not urging that any portion of the district court's judgment be reversed."

"The Department of Justice has determined that the district court's comprehensive opinion came to the correct conclusion and will support it on appeal," said Kerri Kupec, spokesperson for the Justice Department.
It's a major shift for the Justice Department from when Jeff Sessions was attorney general. At the time, the administration argued that the community rating rule and the guaranteed issue requirement -- protections for people with pre-existing conditions -- could not be defended but the rest of the law could stand.

Trump’s Justice Department notified a federal appeals court in New Orleans late Monday it would asking judges to toss out the entire ACA which is going to put healthcare for millions of Americans in jeopardy. Previous Republican attempts to repeal Obamacare triggered a backlash that propelled Democrats back into the majority of the House in the last election. Months ago, when people were polled about what their main concerns are, health care was their number one concern. Undoing everything Barack Obama did was Trump's first objective. Now that the Mueller investigation is over, he can now focus on repealing Obamacare. What's next, rollbacks in Medicare?

Same as the wall. Now it's the Democrats who have to fulfill his campaign promises. Build The Wall! Lock Her Up! Repeal And Replace! And he did none of it while the Repubs controlled the house. Either that was because the Republicans aren't behind those promises or because they're not promises, just rhetoric, and waited until they could be used to make the Democrats look like a roadblock.
Stay tuned. Next Trump will say the Democrats have to prosecute Hillary Clinton.

That meme has failed, clinging to it will only get you laughed at.

FIX health care? NO one has fixed health care its a mess.

First off ACA has been around for 9 years PRIOR to that Health care has been its somewhat unstable but also consistent underwritten market. It was a risk based analysis. It underwrites the individual, classifies them and applies appropriate premiums based on their "Exposure" THIS is and has been a consent INSURANCE model period

Property and Casualty is written the same (Homeowners, Auto, Liability business insurance)
Life Insurance is written the same way

Health insurance was written the same as above UNTIL they REMOVED the EXCLUSION that is CONSTANT in ALL the above market places. Un-insurable risk due to pre existing conditions. THIS has been going ON FOR YEARS PRIOR to 9 years of ACA

So you want to say that ACA has been HUGE success over the Previous HUNDREDS of years of "Insurance" that has been underwritten the same way for hundreds of years... pre colonial dates.

You are saying ACA is the best model for the country?

The ACA's a disaster, and the mandate/tax clearly unconstitutional.

Tens of millions are still grossly vulnerable, and paying a fortune for sub-standard insurance, or unable to afford it at all.

We need single payer/Medicare for all.

Period.

Supreme Court already ruled

Supreme Court already ruled

1) the composition of the court changed.
2) the Trump Admin stated it won't defend the ACA in court.

And how will those of us who are covered by the ACA or Medicaid vote in Nov. 2020? Healthcare was the #1 issue in 2018.

The Supreme Court aren't going to change their own ruling, for political reasons

Thank you Lord. What a gift!

It's actually a different issue. From the Times:
The administration staked out its new position in a lawsuit that was filed by Republican attorneys general in Texas and other states after Congress failed in 2017 to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but later reduced the law’s tax penalty for people who do not have insurance to zero. The suit contended that the absence of the real tax penalty rendered the law’s “individual mandate” — the requirement that most Americans have insurance — unconstitutional.

Without a requirement to purchase insurance, they argued, the law could not then insist that insurance companies cover pre-existing medical conditions and a suite of other “essential health benefits,” such as maternity care and prescription drugs.
I read the administration's action as the kid who kills his parents and then argues to the court that it should be lenient because he's an orphan. The GOP weakened the ACA and now is arguing it should be overturned because they weakened the law.

1 out of 4 isn't bad... it's pretty damn disgraceful.

I still find it funny that you're more apt at describing the current progressive movement here in the US, than the actual republican GOP.

I hope the GOP makes health care a campaign issue. They lose on health care every time

C'mon folks, Trump told us yesterday that the GOP will be the party of health care! I suppose he meant the party that relieves you of your health care, but hey, close!

Trump campaigned on cheaper, better healthcare for all....that sounds like some kind of single payer and we know the Republicans won't stand for that so there is no plan.
I personally hope they take this to the mat win in court and as usual dems will come in and fix the mess they left.
9 ****ing years of tearing something they don't even understand down and it continues.
