Flight attendant, a DACA recipient, released by ICE:
A Mesa Airlines flight attendant, who as a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program recipient is barred from traveling outside the United States under the Trump administration's rules, was released from immigration detention Friday after being taken into custody when she returned to the U.S. on a flight from Mexico that she had worked.

Selene Saavedra Roman, 28, who works for the regional airline based in Phoenix, walked out of the immigration facility Friday evening dragging her Mesa-issued flight bags, according to a representative for the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA who went to meet her and her attorney. She had been held for more than a month.
So, a DACA recipient (25 years in the US, came at 3), who advised her employer she didn't want to fly out of the country, gets assigned to a flight to Mexico, then gets arrested by ICE ... uh, for "reasons", and is held for 6 weeks. She gets released the day after her story hits the news. Curious, no?

Why are we wasting limited resources pursuing such stupidity? How many other people (who have not gotten press) have also been victimized by such stupidity?

Stupidity is the hallmark of the current administration and its blind followers.

I am no longer surprised by this administration. If it is not stories like the OP shows us, it ends up being kicking people out of this nation that served in our military.

It is sad that this is where we are.

They locked her up merely to harass her and send a message..

They should not have admitted her back into the US.

Why? She is here legally and is also married to an American citizen.

From a local source:

The 28-year-old was assured by Mesa Airlines that she could legally fly to Mexico and back, but was detained upon her arrival back to the United States.

Roman came to the United States as an undocumented child from Peru at 3 years old. She grew up in Texas, graduated from Texas A&M, attained legal status under Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA), and married a U.S. citizen.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have already granted her I-130 Petition, which puts her on the path to lawful permanent residency. Local flight attendant detained by ICE expresses gratitude for those who fought for her release

If she's not a legal resident or coming in with a valid passport or papers she should be denied entry like anyone else. If her husband has sponsored her and she's a permanent resident that's another story.

It is well established (meaning I'm not currently providing citations) that US Customs and Border Protection is overstressed, and understaffed. Efforts have been made to recruit, but have been largely unsuccessful. As EVERY law enforcement agency, anywhere, has learned, it is necessary to prioritize limited resources and to use prudential standards on enforcement - not every theft gets the full investigation, that's just reality. Wasting limited administrative resources to arrest, incarcerate, and process a productive member of society is JUST. PLAIN. STUPID. That is the whole point behind DACA. "Zero tolerance" has never been an effective approach - really to almost anything. It eliminates the ability to exercise judgment.

Back up this claim please.

Why do people do this?

Why? You know full well that he's stating a conclusion he draw from facts, logical inferences, and all the circumstances in general. Those circumstances include for example the Trump administration's decision to lock up families separately.* The Trump administration's immigration policies are deliberately mean-spirited. In fact, they elevate mean-spiritedness over effectiveness.

That ICE would yank a working woman off her job because she was dragged here as an infant for purposes such as Henry mentions is absolutely in line with Trump's immigration policy. Indeed, it's exactly the kind of pointless mean-spiritedness that Trump supporters love (when it's aimed at certain people). Keep an eye out for all the various Trump supporters' comments in any thread about this event.

You'll see many iterations of "tough luck for her. She shouldn't be here!"

*
(And before we get to the "but Obama" distraction, let's note that Obama was ordered to release them by a court. That was the genesis of the "catch and release" program, which by the way was very successful in terms of getting them

Not getting into mind reading, here, MrPerson, but you extrapolated an awful lot from such a short statement (not that I disagree, BTW). IF that had been included with the original statement, I don't think the response would have been made. I THINK it is an expectation, here, that when one makes an assertion, one is expected to back it up with citations. That it doesn't happen on such a frequent basis doesn't excuse the lack of support.

Thanks for the follow-up. I was out of town and missed that one.

No surprise; for some reason not even the Houston Chronicle appears to have picked up this latest news.

It was against OBAMA administration rules for a DACA recipient to leave the country. She knew the rules and chose to break them.

Disagree,

She knew the rules, told her employer the rules, and the employer said, no, no, go, you will be fine....etc, (we don't know what the consequences of her refusing would have been etc)

She CHOSE to go no one abducted her. When she chose to work for an airline that had flights to Mexico she should have seen this situation as a logical possibility. I feel sorry for her but her situation is the result of bad decisions on her part. Trump offered a good resolution to the DACA problem but the Dems threw the DACA kids under the bus for the sake of Dem power. Personally I’d like to see the DACA situation resolved but I don’t think the Dems want to solve it.

The issue is that the Obama administration created a quasi-official status after it was rejected by congress. She then violated the terms of that gift. (And yes, she should be furious with her employer for putting her in the position).

She was a recent hire and still on probation, and she was concerned that she would lose her job.

Again, disagree. She didn't choose, she told her employers she could not leave the country, THEY chose to have her go instead of replace her, and as Nota Bene stated, she's on probation, worried about losing her job, that's one helluva choice you are making her make.

It's not like she hid anything from anyone, if she did, I would 100% agree with you...but she was upfront and THEY (her employer) chose to ignore it.

Im sure you are correct but she should have never taken a job where she could be asked to travel outside of the US. The rule that DACA recipients could not leave the US and then return to the US was an OBAMA rule.

I didn’t say it wasn’t a difficult choice but her employer wanted her to do something that wasn’t legal for her to do. She chose badly. What if her employer had wanted her to bring back cocaine in her luggage. Would not wanting to get fired been a good reason for her to do it? Of course not. She knew the law before she was hired and before she CHOSE to fly out of the country and violate the law. I feel sorry for her and all the other DACA kids that the DEMS threw under the bus. But the bottom line is if you want the gift of DACA protection don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. The vast majority of jobs don’t require travel outside of the country. Be a ticket agent and not a flight attendant

She put Canada and Mexico on her no-fly list when hired. Her employer told her it was permissible for her to go. Her crime is believing Mesa Airlines. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/flight-attendant-daca-gets-airline-s-ok-fly-mexico-then-n986351

I guess we can agree to disagree because you aren't viewing this realistically imo, it's not as black and white as you are making it out to be.
