GOP senator says he's fed up with Trump's attacks on McCain

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican senator says that he’s had enough of President Donald Trump’s personal attacks on the late John McCain and that “the country deserves better.”

Johnny Isakson of Georgia is quoted Wednesday as telling The Bulwark conservative news and opinion website that “nothing is more important than the integrity of the country and those who fought and risked their lives for all of us.”
===================================================
McCain was a Navy attack bomber pilot during the Vietnam war, which Trump evaded. McCain & Trump never saw eye to eye, but his continuing criticism of a long dead McCain is beginning to make him look foolish.

As I said on the same sort of thread posted in general politics...

More political correctness run amok.

Regardless of how one feels about the late John McCain, what is it that makes him untouchable?
This is all phony outrage coming from the usual haters, and trumped up :bs coming from the old guard, the political class.

Go ahead and give the POTUS a "verbal whipping," you stupid old fool.

Last August, Isakson said on the floor of the Senate that “anybody who in any way tarnishes the reputation of John McCain deserves a whipping.”

There's a huge difference between tarnishing a rep.
and speaking truthfully about things he did wrong.

Frankly, McCain's participation in the dossier attack is well worth criticizing. It was a political hit job like I've never seen before and just plain ugly. Having first hand knowledge of some of the McCain political shenanigans I've seen in AZ and how he undermined more independent minded candidates here, I have no doubt whatsoever of his intent to take down a sitting president. That's pretty vile stuff!!

John friggin' McCain.
The man who gave us so many hours of free entertainment with Sarah Palin.
The man who basically lived in the pockets of the military arms makers and dealers.
The man who thought it was a good idea to propagate lies about a presidential candidate.
John Friggin' McCain.
RIP John...

The man who campaigned for repealing and replacing Obamacare, and in the 11th hour vindictively voted against repeal and replace.

Matt Schlapp told Jim Acosta who printed a lie...
Schlapp said he was closely following the whip count for the vote in the summer of 2017 and argued that everyone, including the president, were told McCain was guaranteed to vote in favor of the repeal-and-replace plan.

"Jim I was tracking the Senator up until the vote. Everyone was told he was 'solid' on his vote against Obamacare but all of us knew Sen McCain was unpredictable. None of us including the President are lying about this," the vocal Trump supporter said, adding in a follow-up tweet that even Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a close friend to McCain was surprised.

Who the heck is old Johnny boy?!? Never heard of him before. What bill did he introduce and had it passed for the betterment of this country?

Parkinson's must have reached his brain already ...

It's his vindictive nature that was so shocking.

I watched him hand oppo research on a state level candidate to the Democrats because the GOP guy that won the primary wasn't "his guy". McCain was dead set against any candidate who leaned the least bit toward Goldwater Conservative.

LOL, as if any GOP senator is actually going to do anything about being "fed up."

Hilarious. TRump is losing to a dead guy.

Another thread on this... same note too. All Trump had to do was criticize the position or action on some matter, but hell no he decided to make it personal and now we have infinitely more political theater to deal with all because Trump cannot stop being a complete asshole about things.

All of it is issue avoidance as well, I am sure Congress has plenty of other things to be doing other than grandstanding in response to Trump's behavior with twitter.

It is fine to be critical of a position or ideology, but Trump sure seems to set himself up for these things.

SNL is going to have skit material for decades to come at this rate.

From the article:
Trump has escalated his feud with McCain in recent days, saying he was “never a fan” of the former GOP presidential candidate and “never will be.” Over the weekend, Trump renewed his long-running grievances in some caustic tweets.

Perhaps the article should have included the "caustic tweets" since that was what supposedly prompted it. Not sure how he would have 'escalated a feud' that would be pretty one sided at this point, and saying he was "never a fan" isn't exactly caustic.

And the bootlickers turn out en masse to rally 'round the mob boss messiah. Pathetic.

Funny how the Left is upset with Trump taking shots at McCain because the guy's dead. Last I checked, the Left had no problem doing this (and still don't) with Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Andrew Breitbart, Roger Ailes, and the Founding Fathers, just to name a few and all whom are dead. So the outrage the Left has over this isn't even remotely real. They didn't (and still don't) like McCain either because he had an 'R' next to his name. Only time they did respect him was when he went against the Republicans. The things that they ARE outraged about right now are:

-Trump in office, the Republicans in control of the Senate

-Trump's approval numbers are from 45-50% approval

-The national emergency declared at the border

-Howard Schultz running for POTUS

-Trump vetoing the resolution that would block the national emergency

-Israel

-Christians

-Trump

-Republicans

-Conservatives

-Trump

-Pro-lifers

-Guns

-Trump

-The Electoral College

-The US Constitution

-Trump

-Trump

-Trump

-Trump

and

-Trump

Oh, I forgot to mention

-Trump

Pretty sure that cover some of the things out of however many things they're outraged about. By the way, did I forget to say Trump? Because they're outraged over Trump.

Him continuing to beat on a dead guy who can't respond is just making him look even sillier than he already is.

He responded from the grave when the Kramer deposition was released to the public last week.
McCain's hands were all over the missive to have Kramer act as his intermediary to obtain the dossier, the latter who proceeded to get it out to the media.

Faux outrage. The left takes shots at the dead Reagan, etc.? Well let's see. You're comparing the words of private citizens with the words of the President of the United States of America. First problem in your post. Second problem? The right, including me when I supported the right, takes shots at the dead Ted Kennedy and the dead Robert Byrd, as recently as just a few days ago on this board.

But go on excusing Trump's attacks on McCain. We expect nothing less from the cult members.

McCain is not untouchable, even in death. You voted for Obama, so your consistency is opposing McCain is understandable.

Donald Trump is the President of the United States. I'm curious to hear about another President in history who continuously screamed and complained about a recently deceased lawmaker of his own party. Which other President did it?

This isn't phony outrage. It's idiocy, supporting the filth spewing from the mouth and fingers of that man sitting in the Oval Office.

For the record, and this can be proven. John McCain was a Republican for many, many, many more years than Donald Trump was. How ignorant and pathetic that the people who once voted for McCain for POTUS and defended him when he was running to represent the party against Barack Obama now all of a sudden can't stand the man, because Donald Trump couldn't stand him.

McCain can't give POTUS a verbal whipping. He's dead.
