Ex-U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara explains why he considered taping a call with Trump

The former New York prosecutor, who was fired by the president, discussed his thinking about Trump on "The Beat with Ari Melber."

Preet Bharara, who served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York until being fired by President Donald Trump, considered secretly taping a phone call with Trump in 2017, he told MSNBC's Ari Melber in an interview on Tuesday.

"We considered…taping the president," Bharara said on "The Beat with Ari Melber," referring to a proposed call after a March 9, 2017, voicemail from the president's then-secretary asked Bharara to call back Trump.

The president calling a U.S. Attorney directly is not proper protocol. The topic of the call was not stated. He did not return the call but conferred with his staff about taping the call should he have returned it. This is new information & is not in his book.

Trump showed from the start of his presidency that he is not to be trusted by anyone under him.

Bharara was on The Beat to push his new book.

And a solid 1/3 of the country truly believe that Trump can do no wrong.

Before the inauguration he used to call this US Attoney & just chat with him. Very odd behavior. But he might have been fishing for info on investigations involving his family, company & Foundation, all located within his jurisdiction. He stopped returning Trump's calls & got fired after he became President.

There's a reason Bharara was fired. He was asked to resign...quite a reasonable and usual request when a new administration takes over...and he refused.

I wish he HAD recorded Trump. Then Trump could put his ass in jail instead of firing him.

Why so punitive against a man who served his country loyally?

What software are you using that alerts you to any slight of the President?

Because he refused to keel in the rightful position before - or behind - Trump.

Oh...you don't know the part he played in respect to the Hillary emails on Weiner's laptop.

Yeah...don't worry about it. You wouldn't understand.

He understands perfectly. He does not like the taste or smell as much as you apparently do.

If he'd understood, he wouldn't have asked his question.

Almost all the polls said Trump would never be president...

What's your point?

Sorry, mycroft, but that’s incorrect. Both DC and New York are single-party recorders.

I understand that posts like that show that the right wing continues to be the most prominent conspiracy theorists in the nation.

Eliot Ness would not have resigned had Al Capone been elected president.

So...how's that Russia thing going? :lamo

Federal law might have something to say about that.

It's not a conspiracy when there testimony.

Okay, let's hear what the wingnut blogosphere has to say on Anthony Weiner. Let me guess, Huma Abedin and HRC got caught bathing together?

A lot better than the Benghazi thing went.

That's because two different standards are at play, ponder this...*Tweet by Bill Mitchell*

Imagine for a moment that Mueller was investigating Trump and found a secret unsecured server in his basement that Russians had hacked but then Trump bleach bitted to hide the evidence, over 30,000 "personel" emails. Just imagine

Emails and private servers would just become another in a long line of 'Things Conservatives No Longer Care About" if Trump had done that.

So you can read that tweet and believe there is not two standards of justice at play? You know very good and well Mueller would be on it like a pack of pirhanas. And you think the liberals are worked up now?

You guys whiffed at getting HRC. It sucks but, it is what it is. It's time to look forward. And if she was President and had broken campaign finance laws with her lawyer, the Republicans would've impeached her the next day, if we're doing hypotheticals.
