Democrat O'Rourke presidential bid draws $6.1 million in first 24 hours

Beta O'Rourke is very little chance. He gets kicked in the balls by Ted Cruz... imagine how he will do against a more... competent opponent.

I think you have that bass ackwards. He almost beat an incumbent senator in a very republican state. Incredible actually.

Cruz is not disliked. He is playing a character, like Borat.

Voted most disliked in the senate by his fellow senators. And he almost got his ass handed to him in a very red state.

I think you need to come back to reality.

Cruz is a sell out, and personally a disgusting human being.

Yeah it doesn't get much worse than Trump calling your wife all but an ugly whore and you later kiss his ass.

Because its the GOP. They dont have a thing against being white or rich or old. The democrats have specifically drawn a line saying they are the party of diversity, youth, political correctness, the 99%. Everything that Biden isnt. The groping is more of an issue with Biden because its children. Trump only groped hookers that we know of.

Where do you get your misinformation from? Just about everything in your post is wrong.

BTW Trump groped anything with a vagina. Even peeped on teenage girls.

Comparing him to Kennedy? You have got to be kidding. O'Rourke is more style than substance, and has virtually no experience, and was embarrassed in the Texas Senate debates. Not to mention, he lost, despite out-organizing and out-spending his opponent. He has six years as congressman - two of which were running for senate. (Contrast that to Kennedy's four as a naval officer, six as a congressman, and eight as a senator). O'Rourke isn't going to withstand the primary.

So you have a problem with politicians that don't have any political experience? What about the assclown in the Whitehouse now? Apparently enough voters out there didn't care.

The right said Obama didn't have experience ether but he got voted in two terms.

I would not rule out anyone this early in the game.

He's a rich white man. I dont see democrats nominating him in this PC era.

I heard that his wife's family has $500M.

If it was anyone other then Cruz, O'Dork would've lost by at least 10%.

Bernie spent decades making sure everyone knew that while he caucused with the Democrats, he was not one of them. Then, when he decided to run, he expected the politics machine he shunned to suddenly get behind him against someone who had spent 30 years greasing the wheels of that same machine.

I love Bernie, but he was foolish to run as a Democrat.

That is a hell of a lot of money. Good for him. Wow.

I find the fact that people are excited by the amount of money a candidate has raised repulsive!

Until we can get money drastically limited or removed entirely, and elections publicly funded, that is the land the war will be fought on.

And it's the major tool through which the Republocrat Oligarchy keeps its stranglehold upon the Republic.

It's kidna a catch-22 that to get rid of it you have to use the system against itself, if you can.

OTOH I think a bunch of people realized the system wasn't without bias as a result, which could be a good thing in the long run.

Beta O"Rourke.

Alpha Trump.

We know how this will end.

This is almost hilarious... A very privileged white guy? Come on democrats you can do better than this?

Sorta the point of a Catch-22, right? To halt any action against the establishment.

For those reading this quote... do it out loud with your best Russian accent.

To be fair, I try to hold the presidential candidates to the same standard of minimal qualification. None of the three meet that. Trump had extensive executive experience, and a plus in that he ran a large, global business, but no national political experience. Obama had some national political experience, but no leadership background or executive experience - he never led anything larger than a senate office. The shortcomings of both really showed during their first term.

O'Rourke doesn't have the experience of either, plus he has baggage and no substance. I'm amazed at how many people bring him up as a viable candidate. My theory is that they live outside of Texas, and viewed his senate run as an outside spectator.

Democrat O'Rourke presidential bid draws $6.1 million in first 24 hours | Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Beto O’Rourke raised more than $6.1 million within 24 hours of announcing his candidacy for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, his campaign said on Monday, highlighting his fundraising prowess in a crowded field.

The former three-term Texas congressman’s haul put him at the top of a Democratic pack of more than a dozen candidates so far including Bernie Sanders, the independent U.S. senator who sought the party’s nomination in 2016. Sanders raised $5.9 million in the first 24 hours of his 2020 campaign.
====================================================
From what I've seen of him on cable TV, O'Rourke reminds me somewhat of John Kennedy. He has more charisma that the other contenders even though his answers to questions on policy positions are still weak on substance.

He seems like a fairly likable and reasonable person. Not a transformative figure, but certainly a "back to normalcy" kind of President who is able to reach across the aisle, treat people who disagree with him like human beings instead of orcs from Mordor, and would be able to push for a more centrist progressive political agenda. Though his policies have not been fully fleshed out, at least he is not an oleaginous dissembler While I would not vote for the man, I do not see him as being any kind of malevolent force.

Beto did remarkably well for being in Texas. If he can get that close against a Republican incumbent here in Texas, I doubt he will have much trouble in swing states.

Name a single Democrat who could have beaten Cruz in TX.

Of course the system was biased.

People forget that the political parties are PRIVATE entities. The States runs the primaries and caucuses, but the rules of the party are decided by the party, not the public. If the Publix doesn’t like it, they can either join up and change it from within or go sit in the corner and pout.
