Trump says he spoke to General Motors CEO over Ohio plant closure | TheHill

President Trump said Sunday that he spoke with General Motors CEO Mary Barra over the decision to shutter a manufacturing plant in Ohio.

"Just spoke to Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors about the Lordstown Ohio plant," Trump tweeted. "I am not happy that it is closed when everything else in our Country is BOOMING. I asked her to sell it or do something quickly. She blamed the UAW Union — I don’t care, I just want it open!"
=================================================
We live in a capitalist economy, not a Soviet-style centrally directed economy. Dictators don't pick up the phone in the U.S. & order corporate leaders to repurpose a manufacturing complex. Our system doesn't work that way. But Trump apparently wishes that it did.

and a little late to the party.

I think Trump's point was ... "She blamed the UAW Union "

Hmm, weird. So if the economy is booming then there should be no problem paying union workers. Also, there's the contradiction of government meddling from someone who wants less of it. I wonder where Trump thinks the line between a company doing what's right for itself starts.

Sounds like a dictator telling everyone else how to run their lives and their businesses.
Wait, I THOUGHT THAT WAS WHAT THE COMMUNISTS AND SOCIALISTS DO!!

Huh? Am I wrong? Aren't all you Twumpy lovers running around screaming your heads off about how Democrats are going to bring socialism to America where the government tells you how to run your business?

I thought Republicans didn't want government picking winners and losers? Yet, #45 wants to make individual company decisions and favor some industries, like coal, over others.

It's amusing watching Republicans back by 90%, someone who goes against everything Republicans say they believe in.

Not my hero, but apparently your boogeyman.

Yes, he IS a boogeyman, I openly admit it.
He's destroying the VA, which my wife depends upon, death by a thousand cuts, he's threatening my son's ACA based health insurance, without which he will not be covered, which will kill him, and he's a loose cannon in both foreign and domestic policy.
His plan is to destroy all aspects of constitutional republican democracy.
And he's a puppet of Russian oligarchs, including Mr. Putin, and that's thanks to nearly a lifetime of being an organized crime boss in hock to the Russians up to his ears.

RACKETEERING

U.S. Code Title 18. CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE Part I. CRIMES Chapter 96. RACKETEER INFLUENCED AND CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS Section 1961. Definitions:

(1) “racketeering activity” means...
(B) any act which is indictable under any of the following provisions of title 18, United States Code:
section 1341 (relating to mail fraud),
section 1343 (relating to wire fraud),
section 1344 (relating to financial institution fraud),
section 1510 (relating to obstruction of criminal investigations),
section 1511 (relating to the obstruction of State or local law enforcement),
section 1512 (relating to tampering with a witness, victim, or an informant),
section 1513 (relating to retaliating against a witness, victim, or an informant),
section 1956 (relating to the laundering of monetary instruments),
section 1957 (relating to engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity),
section 1960 (relating to illegal money transmitters),

He has literally done ALL of them.
And for you to sit there and bald faced prevaricate about him not being your hero, you probably should take care that your wooden nose doesn't go through the wall at the other end of the room.

As I recommended yesterday stick to your own opinions, you have no clue what mine are.

So Trump wants to control the means of production. Isn't there a catchy word for that?

I see that everyone is pissed because TRUMP did it....

What exactly did he do? He displayed dismay that a plant was closing laying off AMERICAN workers....oh my god.....the horror!!!!

He further compounded that mortal sin, by saying, do something about it, he wants it open so that AMERICAN WORKERS...can you know....work......oh holy ****, how dare he,

Seriously, IF THAT is what has your goose up today, you are in for a world of hurt when reality gets a hold of you.......holy crap snowflakes.

I know, right? Looks like Trump is a progressive now. Or a socialist. Or something.

But as usual, his fans will defend him. Because he's so awesome and he's going to prevent the Hondurans from taking their blueberry picking jobs! Woot!

This thread is pretty typical. Sometimes successful, sometimes not...but all Trump has done since even before taking office has been to attempt to find ways to bring jobs back to the country or to keep jobs here. Again...some successful...some...not so much. But ALL the idiot left has been able to do...form the rat politicians to their mindless supporters...is **** themselves over his efforts. Have they brought ANYTHING to the table beyond their repeated mindless empty headed hatred? Nah.

Its amazing watching Americans GLEEFUL that job saving efforts fail...and rush to avoid credit for the successes. ****ing mindless partisan hatred over the livelihoods of Americans. Awesome.

Trump the outsourcing king? Surely you jest.

That's no the point. The point here is that the gop and its supporters rage on and on about government interference. Why is it ok for trump to go out and use the bully pulpit to try and browbeat a company from closing a plant, but not ok for regulatory measures to be implemented that tell private companies they are not allowed to discriminate over gender or race?
