New Zealand shooting: Trump tweets link to Islamophobic website as Christchurch terror attack was underway

Donald Trump tweeted a link to Breitbart, a far-right website that peddles xenophobia and extremist ideologies, as a terrorist conducted a brutal massacre in New Zealand after releasing a manifesto that celebrated the US president as “a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose.”

The tragedy, in which two mosques were seemingly the target of a terrorist attack spearheaded by an Australian 28-year-old white male, occurred on Friday in Christchurch, New Zealand — the same day Breitbart featured an interview with Mr Trump on its homepage.

The president responded to the mass shootings the following morning on Twitter in a statement that failed to describe the event as an act of terror, as New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had called it the night before. He also deleted his tweet to the Breitbart post the day after the attack.

“My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the horrible massacre in the Mosques,” Mr Trump wrote. “49 innocent people have so senselessly died, with so many more seriously injured. The U.S. stands by New Zealand for anything we can do.”

He added, “God bless all!”

COMMENT:-

Someone should tell Mr. Trump that neither "warmest" nor "best wishes" are quite appropriate when sent as a general "sympathy message".

Someone should also tell Mr. Trump who the deranged loser who slaughtered all those people looks up to as a role model and leader.

PS - Does the "all" in "God bless all!" include everyone, including the "good people" who carried out the senseless slaughter? (It has in the past, so possibly Mr. Trump should "clarify".

PPS - Mr. Trump might also want to consider including something that refers to "terrorism" in his statement (even though the attack was carried out by a white, nationalist, Christian who supports Mr. Trump).

Trump deleted that tweet, but not before probably hundreds or even thousands got a screenshot of it. He will still most likely claim he never posted it.

Well, at least Trump didn't tweet that " there were good people on both sides of this massacre.".......yet.

I've never seen a more tone-deaf idiot in a position of power ...

To add:

Breitbart News was Steve Bannon's baby, after Andrew Breitbart passed. Bannon of course, was Trump's compatriot during the presidential campaign and early days of the administration. That Trump scans and links Breitbart content is no random act.

Rep. Steve King comes close, but he's a congressional back-bencher.
Trump is the clear winner.

I'm sure Trump is great with birthday card messages. After all, that is all his wife gets on her birthday.

No wonder David Duke was flush with excitement when Trump won. It was a real boon for the KKK.

Absolutely not a random act. It let's the base know he hasn't forgotten their concerns.

I think Trumpists will spin this sort of rhetoric from Trump as motivated by his compassion for muslims.
As in...... "We can't let you in because you might be slaughtered by an angry white guy".....watch it happen.

Brenton Tarrant's fate is in the hands of the New Zealand authorities. They don't have the death penalty any longer, it was abolished in 1989. I hope their parliament revisits this issue after this heinous crime and reinstates capital punishment. The method of execution was previously death by hanging. The United States failed miserably when we didn't make an example of Robert Bowers for his hate crime of murdering 11 Jews in a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Hate crimes, particularly those that involve innocent people worshiping in their place of worship should be dealt with as swiftly, as brutally and as savagely as those crimes they've committed. There should be no long drawn-out trial and appeals and all that bull****. Give them a trial and if found guilty, executed them and do it in public and televised for everyone to see and to send the message that we are not going to tolerate this anymore

One woman was shot three times outside that mosque and struggled to the curb where she fell face down. Still alive, she pleaded 'help help'. Brenton Tarrant stood over her and shot her in the head two more times. Then he got in his vehicle and ran over her dead body.

Humans just can't be allowed to become a hero and an inspiration for people filled with that much hatred.

That's about what he would send.
However, he would probably sign off as......

"THE DONALD, STABLE GENIUS, DENUCLEARIZER OF THE KOREAN PENINSULA, ISIS DESTROYER, FRIEND AND CONFIDANT OF DESPOTS"

EDIT: Oops, I should add..."BREAKER OF CHAINS and MOTHER OF DRAGONS" to his sign off.

You guy's are more concerned about a Trump Tweet than the fact that 49 people have lost there lives.

We can chew gum and walk at the same time. We can be both saddened by the deaths and angered by the failure in leadership by our president.

I actually don't believe in the death penalty for heinous acts.

I would prefer they get life without parole in a 4x8 cell without a window. No TV no books. Nothing. Sit there and think about what you did as you go slowly insane.

THAT would be a ****ing deterrent.

The tweet was made by a "rogue intern" whose identity "will not be released due to privacy concerns" but who "is no longer associated with Mr. Trump".

Right?

I'd be all in favour of simply omitting the loser's name from any news coverage and simply describing him as "an unbalanced, bigoted, and deluded loser".

The amount of FAIL in your post exceeds mathematical measurement.
The concern is over the CONTENT of Trump's tweet with regard TO the 49 people who lost their lives.

49 people dying didn't make Mr. Trump look like an insensitive dork - he accomplished that all by himself.

Actually, if you look at the studies, the PUNISHMENT seldom has an actual deterrent effect.

For "property crimes" and "white collar crimes" the deterrent is "I will get caught.", but the average person committing those crimes simply doesn't believe that they WILL get caught.

For crimes of violence (without economic motive) the time between "thinking about committing" and "actually committing" is generally too short to allow for any rational introspection.

For "mass shootings" the prospect of punishment simply doesn't enter into the "I'm going to show THEM!" that causes the crime to be committed (and the realization that they likely won't survive the commission of the crime does tend to introduce a "What the HELL!! I'm STILL going to show THEM!!" motivation.

Maybe a live feed from each cell so we can all watch them go stark raving mad?

But I know what you're saying. Its just that in my cosmology execution is an "easy out".

Right?

I think his response will be ..... But Hillary, yea it's her fault. LOL.
