Paul Manafort Sentencing

So the campaign chairman of Donald Trump just received 7.5 years of federal prison. Trump's personal attorney is going to jail for 3 years. Pretty extraordinary.

In a previous era, yeah, this would have been totally bonkers.

Fine with me, he will die in prison anyway.

Really? As long as he dies in prison you’ll be happy? Just one guy’s opinion here, but that’s pretty messed up to want a death sentence for a non-violent crime.

Hands down the most corrupt administration in American history!!!

Another light sentance, however at least she made it clear that there are very likely coordination, conspiracy and other charges that he is still on the hook for...

She did? Guess I missed that

Paul Manafort Sentencing

The hearing is ongoing, the sentence has not been given yet. I think she will hand him a maximum sentence.

Some key remarks by the sentencing judge below:

7-1/2; he'll serve about 4 years. About what I would expect for White collar criminals.

If you're gonna commit felonies, be sure they are these types of felonies:

Bank Fraud
Tax evasion
Embezzlement

Crime pays under those circumstances.

Why? White collar criminals like him almost always get off easy. I don't pity him and I hope he does die in prison. Too many elitist assholes like Manafort get off too easy.

Ask yourself, if it were you who comitted the same crimes, how lenient would these ****ing judges be?

I thought he'd get the whole 10 years.
Plus, between both of his sentences are concurrent.

So he totals out at 7.5, but he'll have to serve 90% of it (not considering a pardon).

I'm guessing he checks out of this life due to his medical issues in 3.5, given the tole incarceration has already apparently taken on him.

In the EDVA Manafort could have gotten up to 25 years, he ended up getting four years. In DC he could have gotten ten years, but he got 3.5 instead.

Sorry, Jackson was as bad as Ellis. She let him off way to easily for his offenses. She knew he obstructed, tampered, and lied throughout his case, and she knew he was not really remorseful, either. She said she didn't buy his act, yet she came down 55% on his sentence.

Yeah, 7.5 years is no fun park, but it still wasn't ANYWHERE near what Manafort deserved.

I also feel Mueller's team let themselves get played here. Manafort should have never had his EDVA hung charges and so much of his DC sentence dropped, when they knew he was still in cahoots with the WH. That was just a big mistake, no matter how hard it is to see past Mueller's mythic status.

He could have received only 2.5 years more though...

Something I read on Twitter last night that was interesting as well...

The Special Counsel, in Flynn's sentencing memo, stated Flynn "substantially" assisted the special counsel in their investigation. Now ask yourself which cases brought thus far would have used Flynn's assistance (hint: none).

What hyperbole. Its not a death sentence.

He got sentenced for his crimes, the fact that he is an old man doesn't weigh into it.

In a normal world with normal people this would be the end of a presidency. But, in Trumptopia, it's reason to reelect. :)

Paul Manafort created and stoked the environment that led to this bloodshed. Intentionally. His actions on behalf of tyrants and dictators led to many deaths.

This is who Trump hired to run his campaign & has "great respect" for. And this is just a drop in the river of blood beneath Manafort.

I'm hearing he will serve only 6 and 3/4 years when it's all said and done according to Judge Napolitano.

Totally, Rob one person get a large sentence, rob a huge number get off easy.

Non violent?

This guy is responsible for the deaths of thousands, even his daughters call him a murderer.

Much like Capone he may not be charged with all his crimes, however that does not mean he did not commit them...

The judge was not convinced he is in poor health as he did not provide any evidence of that from a doctor, but still the sentence was light.

Exactly. How many died and suffered at the hands of those he helped empower?

And he worked directly against the U.S. government/American people; which would make it even more hideous if our President pardons him.

I don't think Trump should pardon him, fwiw.
That's not to say he won't.

He gets credit for the time he has been locked up.

Yeah, I know. Given his life's history of fraud and deceit, the whole thing could be a charade.

Fortunately, prison sentences are based on actual crimes vice madeup poutrage.
