Inslee says climate change should be 'primary' 2020 issue: 'The world's on fire' | TheHill

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D), a 2020 presidential candidate, on Sunday called for climate change to be the "primary" issue for the next administration, saying "the world’s on fire and we’ve got to act."

“We are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change and we are the last generation that can do something about it. And we’ve got one shot and that’s the next administration," he said during an interview on CNN's "State of the Union."

I did not see this show but I saw him on an evening MSNBC show where he announced that he would be running. Climate change is a sticky topic to make the lead for your campaign but he & his track record impressed me.

Democrats need to make it clear that anybody who thinks global warming is an important issue needs to vote Democrat, and they need to do it in 2020. Because it's now or never, and if Republicans continue to be in charge they'll open more coal plants for no other reason than to spite liberals.

The time has passed for meaningful action to avert the impending changes in climate. It is true we are feeling the start of the impacts but humanity cannot even agree to feed starving babies so anything in this regard is all but impossible. Likely within this decade we will feel the effects of Methane releases and there is nothing to be done in that regard. Too little too late so buckle up for the ride folks.

While he's not wrong, I don't know if he's the best choice for the dem presidential nomination.

Unfortunately this is my belief as well. Best to stop arguing over who or what is responsible for it and start developing the technology and infrastructure to adapt to the crapstorm Mother Earth is going to be throwing at us.

The beauty here is that if we are correct there is nothing we can do about it and if deniers are correct we have nothing to worry about. Argument is indeed futility.

Well, unless and until we have another planet to which we can "evacuate," preserving the status quo of the one we currently occupy is the more risk averse, the more conservatively rational approach. After all, when we have enough evidence to foresee the we may be causing planet itself to "go to hell in a handbasket," it just doesn't make sense to not materially alter our behavior and find out whether doing so indeed alters extant trends.

At the very least, doing so will produce new technologies, new science, new jobs, etc., and, most importantly, we'll find out for sure what be our real and potential future capacity for terraforming, a capability we're, sooner or later, going to need. The sooner we commence the "baby steps" of developing it, the better.
