Ole Miss students vote unanimously to remove Confederate statue from campus center

Good for the students.......Hard to believe this statue stayed up that long.....Hopefully it will be taken down, then grinded into dust....

And then we can all turn our attention to all of the graves of the people in the armies of the CSA who died in battle. Their graves will have to be dug up and their remains
rinded into dust....
as well (and don't forget the tombstones.

After that we can all turn our attention to any monuments/graves that are even remotely associated with people who "oppressively held human beings in bondage and treated them like chattels".

Once that's been completed, all of the monuments/graves that are even remotely associated with the genocidal "ethnic cleansing" of the Native Americans will have to be expunged (and, naturally, the lands "stolen from them at the point of guns" will have to be returned).

The civil war was not about state's rights and we ought to be eradicating all statues of these traitors and replacing them with memorials that depict our true history and heritage.

Good point.

Now, how much are you going to donate to the "On this spot, Chief Crazy Horse was murdered" and the "On this spot, Crazy Horse was murdered." memorial funds?

And how much are going to donate to the "This land all belonged to the Cherokee Nation pursuant to a binding treaty between it and the government of the United States of America until the US government used military force to steal it and march over 4,000 of them to their deaths" memorial.

And, can we count on you for a donation towards the installation of a plaque reading "The original construction of this building was funded with money earned in the slave trade." on Faneuil Hall.

I'll donate a box of chocolates and part of my IDGAF fund.

To Liberals, history began yesterday.

To conservatives, history (and science) never happened at all. In fact a bunch of you think the earth is 6,000 years old and that a zombie saved you from your transgressions.

The students didn't vote unanimously. The student government voted unanimously.

So what?

That's what "representative government" is all about.

What you are talking about is a "Democracy" (as opposed to a "democratically selected government").

If I recall your prior posts correctly, you are opposed to having the United States of America become a "Democracy" (which is NOT the same thing as a "Republic with a democratically selected government" [there are, you know, such things as a "Republic WITHOUT a democratically selected government"]).

This is what passes for journalism, nowadays.

"Headline writers" are NOT "journalists".

History and science are the Left's worst enemies.

People who only read headlines are generally ill-informed.

People who only read headlines and believe then are almost always ill-informed.

People who read headlines, then read the body of the article and find out that the headline is a lie, are aware of the sad state of journalism, in our time.

Same folks who were chanting that black face isn't racist are over here complaining that a racist's statue is being taken down.

Life must be so hard when you can't worship racism in peace.

Sent from Trump Plaza's basement using Putin's MacBook.

Dont you worry. People are going to remember the racism embodied in the south for a long long time.

Been all over this country for years. People of all races in Jackson and Birmingham get along extremely well. They work and eat and socialize together every day. They do sleep on opposite sides of town.

The most racist city I've ever experienced is Boston. Philadelphia and Chicago are close seconds.

Headlines are intended to induce people to read articles and are not intended to actually convey the entire contents of the article.

There are sort of like those beer ads that imply "If you drink Blatz Beer you will have a real studly body and get laid by gorgeous women constantly." when all that drinking Blatz Beer actually does is get you drunk and make you fat.

47-0? Yep, that is pretty clear cut. I’m glad it was the elected student government who decided this rather than the dean.

We have already been told that the statue will be taken down and moved to a cemetery on school grounds where hundreds of confederate soldiers are buried! Well done!

Your quaint personal experiences don't discount the political history of the south and conservatism.

They shouldn't lie, though.

How about basing it on something reasonable, like why were the monuments/gravestones/etc. erected in the first place?

Confederate Statues Were Built To Further A 'White Supremacist Future'

If the author of this article is correct, those statues erected to further racism should be removed. They are an insult to all people of colour. AFAIK, nobody's tombstone was erected to further racism.

The Civil War was fought to bring errant States back into the fold.

To those errant States, slavery was a states rights issue. You can not separate the two.

Ole Miss students didn't want it in the middle of their campus anymore. Why are you against them deciding unanimously to move it out of sight? You sound really triggered right now.

I'm sure nobody knew about the history of the civil war prior to the erection of this statue in the 60's...

I get it. I'm just used to people on the left being offended by so many things I wonder is this real or is this manufactured. Does the timing of this correlate with the anti Trump movement etc? I understand the history a little better now so I can see your points. I've never been offended by anything so it's hard for me to understand.

And make you regret your horrible taste in beer...

"Lies" that decrease advertising revenue are considered "Bad Things". "Lies" that increase advertising revenue are considered "Good Things".

Those maxims apply equally to CNN and FOX News.

The tombstone was erected to honour someone who "fought to perpetuate slavery", wasn't it?

Now, I will agree that a contemporary action should be judged/permitted based on why the action is being done, but going back over 100 years is simply, in my mind, silly.
